1964 Ford Galaxie 500xl on 2040-cars
Brewster, Massachusetts, United States
THIS IS A SOLID CAR I PURCHASED A YEAR AGO FROM A GUY WHO CLAIMED TO HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A FRIEND THAT HAD THE CAR IN STORAGE SINCE 1972 AND FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH IT SEEMED BELIEVABLE. THE CAR HAD THE WRONG CARB ON IT AND STILL HAD GRASS IN THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT FENDER WHEN I BOUGHT IT. IT'S A CANADIAN BUILT CAR THAT WAS SOLD IN AND REMAINED IN NEW HAMPSHIRE ALL THIS TIME. THE CAR IS VERY SOLID (MINUS FRONT DRIVERS FENDER AND A VERY MINOR SPOT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRAME (NOT STRUCTURAL AND WHICH STILL HAS SOME DIRT WHICH NEEDS TO BE BLOWN OUT OF IT. I SWITCHED THE CARB FOR A THUNDER SERIES (I'LL INCLUDE JET KIT) CHANGED THE FLUIDS,NEW EXHAUST, SENDING UNITS (GAS AND TEMP) GOT THE DASH LIGHTS GOING, NEW RIMS AND TIRES, BRAKES, NEW DISTRIBUTER PLUGS, WIRES ETC. NEW GAS TANK, BRAKES, BRAKE LINES, CLOCK STILL TICKS (BUT DOESEN'T KEEP PROPER TIME) RADIO DOESN'T WORK, INTERIOR LIGHTS WORK AS DOES HEAT AND DEFROST. HEADLINER THREAD GAVE OUT WITH WINDOWS DOWN THIS SPRING (SEE PICS) RADIATOR EXPANSION TANK NEEDS TOPPING OFF (LEAKS) BUT COULD BE BRAZED OR REPLACED, BRIGHTWORK IS EXCELLENT AND APPEARS TO HAVE ONE REPAINT WHICH IS DULL BUT COULD BE BUFFED OUT. I'VE LEFT THE PAINT ALONE BECAUSE I ENJOY THE ORIGINALITY OF THE CAR. ENGINE SHOWS A REBUILD TAG BY PRECISION ENGINEERING OF CANADA. DOORS, TRUNK AND HOOD SHUT LIKE THE DAY IT WAS BUILT!! CRUISE-O-MATIC MAY NEED A REBUILD AS IT STUMBLED OFF A STOP FOR THE 1ST TIME LAST WEEK. (I'LL LOOK IN TO IT THIS WEEK). COLUMN SHIFT IS A LITTLE SLOPPY AND CAR HAS ALWAYS STARTED IN 2ND UNLESS MANUALLY PUT IN 1ST (EVEN IN D2). I LOVE THE CAR AND HAVE ENJOYED GETTING ICE CREAM AND GOING TO SHOWS WITH MY DAUGHTER, BUT RECENTLY PURCHASED A 63 WITH A 4SPEED AND CAN'T KEEP BOTH. THIS CAR ALSO HAS A SWING-AWAY (LESS THAN 2% OF GALAXIE'S HAVE THIS STEERING OPTION) AND 390FE. I HAVE $10000.00 IN TO THE CAR. I WILL SELL AT A FAIR PRICE BELOW THAT WITH "STUMBLE" FIXED OR NOT, DEPENDING ON BUYER. NEEDED TO LIST NOW BECAUSE '63 IS ON THE WAY!!! PLEASE CONTACT WITH ANY QUESTIONS! Forgot to mention I have the 14" rims and original distributer and brake booster. Also if they fit on the car I could be willing to throw in two spare front fenders I have off a 64 wagon and a 500 64 Galaxie.I'll revise again and switch pics when I get news on tranny or whatever the noise was. 8/26/14- talked to my mechanic yesterday who said "just drive it". This was the first transmission oil change and he thought it could just be cleaning out and that we should change again after driving for a while. Also said rear end was fluid was probably original when he changed it. I drove 60 miles today without any issues. That's it for now.

Ford will build Hackmobile out of Transit Connect Wagon
Fri, 27 Dec 2013What you see in the above image is a rendering of the Hackmobile Transit Connect Wagon. What is that? It's a "mobile fabrication and hacking unit" that includes tools for metal- and woodworking, 3D and electronics fabrication, a three-axis CNC machine called "The Fabber," a video projector and screen, an air compressor, an 84x48-inch work surface that folds out like a Murphy bed and oh so much more. When not in use, all of the implements fold neatly into the back of Ford's award-winning van.
But perhaps the more important question is why is that? Because Make Magazine held an Ultimate Maker Vehicle Challenge in conjunction with Ford in which ten teams created were charged with creating "the ultimate Ford Transit Connect Wagon for the do-it-yourself enthusiast." Team Twin Cities Maker won the competition with the Hackmobile, and in addition to winning $10,000, Ford has declared it's actually going to build the thing - which is great, because if they can actually engineer a road-legal Hackmobile Transit Connect Wagon as envisioned, the inevitable A-Team movie reboot might need to think about including it.
Check out the video below for a cheeky walk-through of the Hackmobile, and get all the particulars in the press release below that.

2015 Ford Mustang GT road test ride-along
Wed, 24 Sep 2014You've no doubt already pored over our first drive of the 2015 Ford Mustang, where author Jonathon Ramsey proclaimed that "this new car shames the old, redefines the model and gallops far ahead of anything else in the segment." And following Ramsey's first stint behind the wheel of Ford's new coupe, we sent him back out with another 'Stang to capture some of these same impressions over a backdrop of the car moving quickly along gorgeous California canyon roads.
But this also gave our author and editors time to read through the hundreds of comments left on that original Mustang review. You readers are indeed a vocal bunch, and one particular comment about how the automotive media is so willing to bash an outgoing car as soon as the new one arrives really caught our attention. In this video, Ramsey stands by his written text, saying the new Mustang is "massively better than the one it replaces," and in doing so, addresses your comments while providing more insight into just how good the Ford truly is.
We won't spoil the rest for you. Check out the feature video above, and as always, leave us your thoughts in the Comments section below.
