1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Xl 406 Tri Power 4 Speed All Original on 2040-cars
Airdrie, Alberta, Canada
For sale is a very rare, all original 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL "G Code" Box Top. This car feature's a 406 Tri Power, factory cast iron headers, AM/FM radio, Sun Tach and factory tinted glass. The car was built in November of 1962 where it was sold in Hawthorn California. This car was a California/New Mexico all its life until it was recently brought to Canada. There is absolutely no rust to speak of. Being a "G Code" this '63 Galaxie is powered by the 406 with a tri power, 3x2 carb system. It is also equipped with a 4 speed transmission. A 4 Speed transmission came in all 406 Galaxies. The engine and transmission are numbers matching right down to the carbs being original and matching to the engine. The engine was rebuilt 12k miles ago. The engine is very strong and I actually drove it 1,400 Miles from New Mexico to Alberta. As you can see in the pictures the paint on the fenders and roof is thin. About 95% of the paint is original. It has been touched up on the trunk and tops of the quarter panels. It has a few minor dents. All the trim on the car is beautiful. It's very hard to find these cars with trim in this good of shape. The interior is all original and absolutely beautiful with minor wear. You can see in the pictures that it has a Sun Tach. The Tach was possibly installed at the dealer ship when the car was new and somewhere down the line someone changed the original shifter to a Hurst shifter. It even has original factory floor matts! This '63 Galaxie is a true survivor. This car was rare when it was built and how many actually survived? It's very hard to find a rare car like this that hasn't been messed with. On May-08-14 at 04:42:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Something I forgot to mention. The car never came with seat belts but they were added to the front at some time. The back does not have seat belts. |

European jury picks finalists for 2015 Car of the Year
Tue, Dec 16 2014There are countless Car of the Year awards handed out each year, and naturally, Europe has its own way of doing things. Every year, a panel of jurists representing seven publications in seven different languages and seven different countries get together to name their joint Car of the Year. The panel released a list of 32 candidates back in July, and it has now whittled that list down to seven nominees. The list consists of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, the Citroen C4 Cactus (shown), the Ford Mondeo, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Nissan Qashqai, the Renault Twingo and the Volkswagen Passat. Of those seven, only two are available in the US – those being the Mondeo (sold Stateside as the Fusion) and the C-Class. The Passat is an entirely different model in North America, the Qashqai isn't offered here, Citroen and Renault don't even participate in our market and the BMW 2 Series is represented here only by the completely different coupe and convertible. Expect the one and only recipient of the 2015 Car of the Year award to be announced at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March, and while you're waiting, you can place your guesses for the eventual winner in Comments. Feds looking into Ford Explorer exhaust leak complaints
Fri, 20 Jun 2014There may be a burgeoning problem with exhaust leaks in the 2011-2014 model year Ford Explorer. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is examining multiple complaints of a gasoline smell in the cabin of these SUVs. However, the exact cause of this problem is still unknown.
"The agency is reviewing all available data and will take appropriate action as warranted," said a NHTSA spokesperson in an email to Automotive News. Owners seem to generally complain on the regulator's website of the smell entering the cabin through the air vents. At this time, the government organization has not yet opened an official investigation into the problem, though. When it does begin inspecting vehicles, NHTSA posts a detailed breakdown of its public data online.
Similar problems have been reported about the Explorer in the past, though. In 2013, Ford issued a recall for the 2013 model year of the SUV due to a fuel leak that could cause drivers to smell a gasoline odor and repaired them again later for another possible leak. In response to Autoblog's questions, Ford responded via email: "We are not aware of a NHTSA investigation. We are currently reviewing the case and in the event that any action is required, we will address it promptly."
USPS releases hot rod stamps to speed up your delivery
Sun, 08 Jun 2014After one of the worst winters in recent memory for much of the country, summer is finally here. It's time to drop the top, open the sunroof or at least put down the windows and take a long drive. The United States Postal Service is celebrating the season's sun in automotive style with two new hot rod Forever stamps.
Both stamps depict classic '32 Ford hot rods. One shows the car from the front at a low angle in red (pictured above), while the other depicts the car from the back in black with flames running down the side.
To introduce the new stamps on their first day of availability, the USPS went straight to the source at the National Street Rod Association Street Rod Nationals in York, PA. They were unveiled by Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe, Car Crazy host Barry Meguiar and NSRA Special Events Director Jerry Kennedy.
