Here is a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 4-door with 47,750 original miles. It has the original 390 'Thunderbird' V-8 with the Cruise-O-Matic transmission. The car is Heritage Burgundy with the original tan and cream interior in excellent shape. Although not running, this would be an easy restoration on a solid unmolested original car. This car has sat for the last 25 years. The engine does turn over when connected to a battery. The brakes are not seized so the car does roll (brakes are not working and would need to be redone, of course). The fenders, wheel wells, floorboards and trunk pan are solid (see photos).
I'll try and list everything I know about the condition of this car, but mostly it hasn't been touched in a number of years so I may miss some little details.
The gas tank was pulled a number of years ago and was cleaned and sealed although I think it needs a new sending unit. It is currently not on the car but is included. The carburetor was professionally rebuild maybe 15 years ago and was reinstalled. The car was in a front end accident about 30 years ago and the grill area was disassembled. The bumper and replacement front grill are bolted in place for the photos, but will need some work to be perfect (the filler piece between the bumper and grill is a replacement piece that is the wrong color, for instance, also, there's are pieces of chrome that goes along the bottom of the grill that aren't installed (but come with the car)). I have the Ford grill emblem that is missing in the photos. The drivers door has some paint that peeled off near the bottom and there's some surface rust there (see photo). On the passenger side, below the rear door, there's a dent from hitting a curb (there's a photo of the area, but it doesn't show up well). The exhaust pipes are rusted through on both sides (this has true dual exhaust) just before the mufflers (or are those the resonators, I forget, the ones at the very back of the car) and these are both off the car. The chrome pieces that hold the radio antenna in place are not installed (I don't remember why) but I have the pieces. The drivers side back door latch is stuck, the button won't pop back out so I can't open the door. It wasn't like that when I parked the car years ago, so I'm not sure what's up with that. Maybe some penetrating oil on the latch mechanism might loosen it up.
The car has an AM radio (there's an aftermarket FM hung below the dash so there was no damage to the dash when this was done). It has manual brakes and manual steering, no A/C (not really needed with the wing windows and under dash vents). The original 390 has a lot of power and moves this big car along a lot better than you'd think (I'm thinking back 30 years ago, when this car was my daily driver).
The car has snow tires on the back (it lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for a long time) and the fronts are the original Atlas Cusionaire bias ply tires and have held up really well. Two other original tires are mounted on two more rims that go with the car plus it has the original spare, so it comes with all five factory supplied tires, some more worn than others. It has the original correct jack..
The car is located in Petersburg, MI and is available for inspection at any time before the auction is over. I would encourage you to come and look at it if you live close enough so that you're satisfied with what you see and are comfortable bidding.
This has a clear Michigan title.
PAYMENT AND SHIPPING: I'll need to be payed in full within a week and within 5 days is preferred. Cash, Money Order, Western U, Personal Check (I'll have to wait a day or so for this to clear), even Paypal (I'ld prefer not Paypal, since they take a percentage, but if that's what you want to use, I can live with it). The buyer is responsible for pick-up or shipping. If it's going to take a while to arrange, that's OK, I can put it back in the same dry storage where it's been for the last 25 years, it's not in my way if it's going to take you a bit to pick it up. I have an open flat bed trailer and can deliver it within a reasonable distance for a reasonable charge (say $1/mile for however far Mapquest says it is). If you're at a loss about shipping, I've used UShip.com in the past with good results.

Mustang, Camaro, Challenger gallop onto USPS pony car postage stamp set
Tue, Jul 19 2022Some of America's most iconic cars are about to be immortalized on postage stamps. A new set by the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate the the golden era of pony cars, featuring five classic examples of Detroit iron. Each one is beautifully illustrated in oil-on-canvas style, with subjects in motion and sunlight glinting off the chrome, and would add a nice touch to any first-class letter. The pony car segment was all about (relatively) small, sporty alternatives to the full-size land yachts of the 1960s. They typically came equipped with 6-cylinder engines or small-block V8s. The category was named after the Ford Mustang, hence the name. Some, though, argue that the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched a couple of weeks before the Mustang, is the first. Luckily, the Falcon-based Mustang's distinct styling generated a sales sensation, or we might be calling them fish cars. Appropriately, one of the featured cars is a Mustang. But it's not just any Mustang. The 1969 Boss 302, seen here resplendent in Bright Yellow, was created for the hotly-contested SCCA Trans-Am racing series. One of its main rivals would have been the 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28, also created specifically for the series, and is included in the set in Fathom Green. Representing Auburn Hills in the set is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy, while Southfield's American Motors gets a nod with an AMC Javelin in Big Bad Orange. The Mustang's platform cousin, a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7, is portrayed in a gorgeous Burgundy Poly that almost looks incomplete without Neko Case on the hood. It's not the first time the USPS has honored America's rich car culture on its stamps. In 2013, it issues a series of muscle car stamps with the help of Richard Petty. That set featured a 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1970 Chevelle SS, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda and, of course, a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Another set in 2016 featured classic pickup trucks. Going further back, a 2008 release had chroed and finned automobiles of the 1950s and a 2005 release featured sporty American cars of the same era. The pony car stamps will debut on August 25 at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, California in partnership with the American Philatelic Society. The public is free to attend the dedication ceremony, but you must RSVP first. After that, they will be available at local post offices and on line at the USPS store.
Ford earnings take a dive on investment, slowing sales; workers get $6,900 in profit sharing
Thu, Jan 29 2015Ford Motor Company's pre-tax profits for 2014 took a beating, falling to $6.3 billion, a $2.3-billion drop from 2013, while overall revenues fell from $139.4 billion to $135.8 billion. Net income for 2014, meanwhile, plunged 56 percent, from $7.18 billion to $3.19 billion. Yeah, those aren't great numbers. While Ford's figures are largely down across the board, some of the weaker numbers aren't too difficult to explain away. The company launched 24 vehicles across the globe in 2014, including some of its biggest and most important volume models, like the 2015 F-150, as well as iconic offerings like the new Mustang. The result of this is both increased investment as well as a drop in total sales – US market numbers were down 164,000 units compared to 2013. Recall claims and high warranty costs also did a number on the Blue Oval. "2014 was a solid yet challenging year for Ford - with our investments and a record number of new products launched around the world positioning us for strong growth this year and beyond," Ford CEO Mark Fields said in a statement. Ford's 50,180 UAW workers in the United States will receive profit-sharing checks of $6,900. In some markets, Ford's fortunes were impacted by outside factors. Europe, for example, recorded more sales (up 70,000 units) and higher revenues (up $2.2 billion), but still reported a $443-million pre-tax loss. Blame was placed on the crumbling Russian economy, which has suffered from sanctions and slumping oil prices. Despite its troubles last year, the company still seems bullish on 2015. Ford's pre-tax outlook remains unchanged, as the company expects to make anywhere from $8.5 to $9.5 billion on the back of higher revenue from the company's automotive operations. We expect strong growth and improved financial performance in 2015 driven by our investments in new products and capacity," Ford CFO Bob Shanks said of the company's future.
GM and Ford quarterly sales continue to slump in China
Fri, Jul 5 2019BEIJING — General Motors and Ford announced their quarterly sales in China fell, albeit at a slower pace sequentially, as the U.S. automakers were hit by a slowing economy amid the Sino-U.S. trade war. GM's vehicle sales in China for the quarter ended June 30 dropped 12.2%, while Ford's sales slumped by 21.7%. While GM also suffered from heightened competition in its key mid-priced SUV segment, Ford was hurt by the limited new models for customers to choose from. For the first quarter of this year, Ford's sales in China tumbled 35.8 percent while GM's skid 17.5 percent. Still, the numbers from GM, the second biggest international automaker in China by sales, and Ford portend more uncertainty for the industry which is trying to rebound from a downward spiral that led to its first annual sales decline last year in more than two decades. GM delivered 1.57 million vehicles in China in the January-June period this year, while Ford delivered 290,321 vehicles. China's factory activity shrank more than expected in June, highlighting the need for more economic stimulus amid higher U.S. tariffs and weaker domestic demand. Annual car sales in China fell last year for the first time since the 1990s, and they are expected to fall this year too. Sales tumbled 16.4% in May from the same month a year prior, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said. That marked the 11th consecutive month of decline and followed falls of 14.6% in April and 5.2% in March. U.S. car companies' share of total China passenger vehicles sales fell to 9.6% in the first five months of this year from 10.9% in the year-ago period, according to CAAM. Over the same period, German car makers' share has risen to 23.3% from 20.9% and Japanese auto makers' to 21.3% from 17.3%. CAAM is set to announce June sales next week, which industry analysts forecast will be negative.  New models In China, GM has a joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp, in which the Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac are made. It also has another venture, with SAIC and GuangxiAutomobile Group, in which they make no-frills minivans and have started to make higher-end cars. Sales of GM's affordable brand Baojun dropped 31.8% for the latest quarter. But luxury brand Cadillac's sales jumped 36.6%. GM sold 3.64 million units in China last year, down from 4.04 units in 2017. Ford makes cars in China through its joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co and Jiangling Motors Corp (JMC).
