UP FOR BID IS AN ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL 1959 FORD GALAXIE RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONVERTIBLE.  I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM ANOTHER CAR COLLECTOR FROM NEW ENGLAND AT ONE OF THE LAST KRUSE AUCTIONS HELD AT THE VERONA NY CASINO ABOUT 6 YEARS AGO.

THIS VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  IT HAS OF COURSE THE WORKING RETRACTABLE HARDTOP IN PERFECT CONDITION.  IT GOES UP AND DOWN WITH A TOUCH OF A BUTTON UNDER THE DASH AND IT ALWAYS DRAWS A CROWD.  THE CAR IS FULLY EQUIPPED AND HAS POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, POWER WINDOWS, POWER SEAT, AND AFTER MARKET MODERN AM/FM STEREO RADIO.  (I HAVE THE ORIGINAL RADIO).  THE CAR HAS THE ORIGINAL PLASTIC SEAT COVERS IT CAME WITH AND FEATURES A TRI-COLOR RED BLACK AND WHITE UPHOLSTERY.  THE CARPETS ARE BLACK AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  ALL THE UPHOLSTERY IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  THE GAUGES AND SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER WORK.  THE ODOMETER HAS LESS THAN 37000 ON IT.  I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE REAL MILEAGE IS, HOWEVER THIS CAR HAS BEEN GENTLY USED.

ALL THE POWER WINDOWS WORK WELL AS WELL AS THE POWER SEAT.  THE CARS STARTS, STOPS, AND DRIVES EXTREMELY WELL.  IT WILL CRUISE AT 65 ALL DAY LONG.  I JUST TOOK A TRIP ON THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY FROM ROCHESTER NY TO SYRACUSE NY AND IT CRUISED AT 65MPH AND KEPT UP WITH TRAFFIC WITHOUT ANY ISSUES.

THE PAINT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND SHINES BEAUTIFULLY.  THE CAR MAY HAVE BEEN REPAINTED IN THE FACTORY COLOR, HOWEVER IT WAS DONE BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO DETECT ANY OVERSPRAY IN THE DOORS OR TRUNK AREA OR UNDER THE HOOD.  THE CHROME IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND SHINES LIKE IT JUST LEFT THE FACTORY.  NEW CARS HAVE VIRTUALLY NO CHROME AND THIS CAR HAS LOTS OF IT.  IT IS ALL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.  THE GLASS IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND  THE CAR FEATURES A TINTED FRONT WINDSHIELD.

THE CAR CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH AIR CONDITIONING AND IT WORKS FINE.  IT WAS MOUNTED UNDER THE DASH, AND IT HAS A CHROME EMBLEM ON THE PASSENGER DOOR STATING THE CAR IS FACTORY EQUIPPED WITH SELECT-AIRE AIR CONDITIONING.  AGAIN IT WORKS FINE.

AFTER I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP AND THE OLD MECHANIC WENT THROUGH THE CAR FROM STEM TO STERN AND CORRECTED ALL MINOR DEFECTS IT HAD.  THE CAR HAS 2 FACTORY SPOTLIGHTS AND THEY NOW LIGHT JUST LIKE WHEN THEY LEFT THE FACTORY.  THE CONTINENTAL KIT IS FACTORY INSTALLED AS WELL.  IT HAS THE SPARE TIRE.  THERE IS NO RUST ON THIS VEHICLE AND I THINK THE ORIGINAL RUST PROOFING IS STILL ON THE CAR.  THE CAR HAD ORIGINAL BIAS BELTED TIRES THAT WERE IN TERRIBLE SHAPE.  I HAD 4 NEW FIRESTONE WHITE WALL 380'S  INSTALLED ON THE CAR.  THE RADIAL TIRES WORK FINE WITH THIS SUSPENSION AND IT HELPS THE CAR STOP WELL AND IT TRACKS JUST FINE.  SOME PEOPLE THINK THE CAR NEEDS WIDER WHITE WALLS AND A NEW OWNER COULD MAKE THAT CHANGE.

I WAS TOLD THE CAR CAME FROM ALABAMA BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE.  THE MAN I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM DID NOT HAVE ANY DOCUMENTATION WITH THE CAR.  HOWEVER, IT RUNS GREAT AND PERFORMS VERY WELL.  IT DRIVES STRAIGHT AND TRUE AND IS FREE FROM STRANGE NOISES OR CREAKS ETC.

THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A 3 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND A 332 CUBIC INCH ENGINE WITH A 2 BARREL CARB.  THE ENGINE STARTS RIGHT UP, PURRS LIKE A KITTEN, SUPPLIES PLENTY OF POWER AND NEEDS NOTHING.  I HAD ALL FLUIDS CHANGED THE YEAR AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR AND EVERYTHING MECHANICAL IS IN EXCELLENT OPERATING CONDITION.  THE ENGINE OIL WAS CHANGED THIS SEASON.  THE UNDER HOOD AREA IS DETAILED TO A HIGH DEGREE AND LOOKS GOOD.

I SUBSCRIBE TO ALL THE OLD CAR PUBLICATIONS AND THE PRICE GUIDES AND AUCTION RESULT GUIDES.  1959 IS THE MOST POPULAR YEAR FOR THE RETRACTABLES AND RED IS THE BEST COLOR FOR ANY COLLECTIBLE CAR.  VEHICLES LIKE THIS HAVE SOLD FOR AS MUCH AS $69,000 IN RECENT AUCTIONS.  YES, YOU CAN BUY A RETRACTABLE FOR MUCH LESS THAN MY BUY- IT-NOW PRICE.  REMEMBER, MANY OF THESE CARS WERE RUST BUCKETS AND ALL THE BODY PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS VEHICLE.  ONE CAN BUY NEW FLOOR PANS. OTHER SHEET METAL,  THE LUGGAGE BUCKET FOR THE BACK, AND MUCH OF THE OTHER PARTS.  THIS CAR IS ORIGINAL AS ANY 55 YEAR OLD CAR CAN BE AND HAS NO RUST.

PLEASE CALL ME AT 585-259-3958 WITH ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CAR.  I HAVE SEVERAL OTHER CARS FROM MY COLLECTION CURRENTLY ON EBAY.

THE CAR IS GARAGED IN FAIRPORT NY WHICH IS A SUBURB OF ROCHESTER NY.

TRANSPORTATION TO THE BUYER'S HOME IS COMPLETELY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER.  I WILL COOPERATE WITH THE SHIPPER YOU CHOOSE.

THE VEHICLE IS SOLD AS IS WITH NO GUARANTEE.  HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE IS IN TIP-TOP SHAPE AND THE NEW OWNER WILL NOT HAVE TO SPEND MONEY ON RECONDITIONING.

YOU CAN FIND LESS COSTLY RETRACTABLE HARDTOPS, BUT NOW AS NICE AND AS SHARP AS THIS ONE.

THANKS VINCE.

Ford GT gets sexy shape and EcoBoost power [w/videos]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

American automakers make vehicles of all shapes and sizes, but the one thing they almost invariably share in common is their front-engine layout. Niche offerings from the likes of SSC, Saleen and Vector (and the almost anecdotal Pontiac Fiero) aside, the most notable exception has been the Ford GT. And now it's back. Launched on the floor of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the new Ford GT picks up where the last one left off the better part of a decade ago – similarly taking its cues from the original, Le Mans-winning GT40, but in a less retro, more modern form. Instead of the atmospheric V8 in the original or the supercharged one in the retro revival, the new GT packs a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 nestled in the middle of its wheelbase and driving "more than 600 horsepower" to the rear wheels. Although Ford hasn't revealed the specific output or performance figures, it says the engine – derived from its Daytona Prototype unit and mated to a seven-speed DCT – is its most powerful production EcoBoost ever. Fortunately it's got carbon-ceramic brakes to keep it all in check, packed into 20-inch wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 rubber. The discs aren't all that's made from carbon on the new Ford GT, though: it's built around a carbon monocoque with structural carbon-fiber body panels, but with aluminum sub-frames front and back. Ford designed the new GT with a narrower canopy than its predecessors, cutting the frontal aerodynamic profile and tapering towards the back. It's also equipped with active aero elements including an active rear wing. Upwards swinging doors ought to make ingress and egress easier to and from the cockpit that's fitted with fixed seats, adjustable pedals and F1-style steering wheel and a fully digital instrument cluster. The new GT is set to enter production next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the GT40's famous 1-2-3 finish at the 1966 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. By the time it does, we're sure Ford will let us know just how fast America's newest supercar will be.

Ford confirms 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine for 2014 Fusion

Thu, 11 Apr 2013

Earlier this week, reports were swirling 'round the internet about the 2014 Ford Fusion getting a new 1.5-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. That was... half correct. Ford today confirmed that the 2014 Fusion is, in fact, getting a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost mill, but it has four cylinders, not three.
The new 1.5-liter engine will be the fifth EcoBoost powerplant from Ford Motor Company. Initially to be built at the automaker's Craiova, Romania plant, it will also be offered in the Fusion's twin, the Mondeo, in other markets. This engine will debut at the Shanghai Motor Show next month, and the 1.5-liter is of particular importance in the Chinese market - there is significant tax relief in the People's Republic for vehicles powered by engines with a capacity of 1.5 liters or less.
At a media briefing Thursday, Ford declined to divulge exact power or fuel economy numbers, though Joe Bakaj, vice president of powertrain engineering, told Autoblog that power output should be similar to that of the current 1.6-liter inline-four, and that overall efficiency will be "better than the 1.6." Our earlier report stated that the 1.5-liter four will produce 177 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque - losses of 1 hp and 7 lb-ft versus the 1.6-liter engine. Ford states that the 1.5-liter four will feature many of the same technologies used on the company's 1.0-liter EcoBoost inline-three, including an integrated exhaust manifold that recaptures much of the engine's heat.

Autoblog's guilty pleasure cars

Tue, Mar 10 2015

Guilty pleasures are part of life – don't even try to pretend like you don't have one (or two, or six). In the non-automotive space, this could come down to that secret playlist in your iPhone of songs you'll only listen to when you're alone; or think of that one TV show you really do love, but won't admit to your friends. I've got plenty, and so do you. Going back to cars, here's a particularly juicy one for me: several years ago, I had a mad crush on the very last iteration of the Cadillac DTS. Oh yes, the front-wheel-drive, Northstar V8-powered sofa-on-wheels that was the last remaining shred of the elderly-swooning days of Cadillac's past. Every time I had the chance to drive one, I was secretly giddy. Don't hate me, okay? These days, the DTS is gone, but I've still got a mess of other cars that hold a special place in my heart. And in the spirit of camaraderie, I've asked my other Autoblog editors to tell me some of their guilty pleasure cars, as well – Seyth Miersma, as you can see above, has a few choice emotions to share about the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Read on to find out what cars make us secretly happy. Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG This decadent convertible is the epitome of the guilty pleasure. It's big, powerful, fairly heavy and it's richly appointed inside and out. It's a chocolate eclair with the three-pointed star on the hood. Given my druthers, I'd take the SL65 AMG, which delivers 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. That output is borderline absurd for this laid-back convertible. I don't care. You don't need dessert. Sometimes you just crave it. The SL line is about the feel you get on the road. The roof is open. The air, sun and engine sounds all embrace you. It's the same dynamic you could have experienced in a Mercedes a century ago, yet the SL gives you the most modern of luxuries. An Airscarf feature that warms my neck and shoulders through a vent embedded in the seat? Yes, please. Sure, it's an old-guy car. Mr. Burns and Lord Grantham are probably too young and hip for an SL65. I don't care. This is my guilty pleasure. Release the hounds. – Greg Migliore Senior Editor Ford Flex I drove my first Flex in 2009 when my mother let me borrow hers for the summer while I was away at college. The incredibly spacious interior made moving twice that summer a breeze, and the 200-mile trips up north were quite comfortable.
