1965 Ford Gt40 Mk1 on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
This 1965 Ford GT40 Mk1 was a complete, fully-sorted, factory built tribute race-car by Bailey Edwards Cars (BEC) of South Africa for South Africa's annual "SEMA" car show. FYI, South Africa allows replicas to compete in sanctioned vintage car racing, and although BEC is a relatively small builder, it is recognized as the premier builder of vintage tribute race cars and has enjoyed great racing success.
This BEC GT40 Mk1 was purchased at that "SEMA" show by a California enthusiast, and in order to comply with US DOT rules, the Small Block Ford engine and 6-speed transaxle were removed so the car could be legally imported into the US. It was shipped to San Diego where it was placed in a private collection. When the owner decided to sell the car rather than to go to the trouble of replacing the drive-train, I purchased it and replaced the engine and transaxle before successfully titling and registering it in 2006 via California's SB100, which makes this GT40 both street legal as well as smog exempt. This BEC GT40 Mk1 is constructed with a aluminum clad space frame with the safety of a full roll cage. The front suspension is independent, double-wishbone; the rear is independent double-trailing arm with traverse top link and lower wish bone. The front and rear hubs are carved out of billet aluminum. Bilstein adjustable coil-over shocks with anti-roll bars are fitted both front and rear, while the suspension mounting is fully adjustable with rose joints. Brakes are 4-piston AP Racing calipers with 305 mm vented discs both front and rear. The wheels are polished alloy, wired, knock-off Halibrand-style pin drives. Front wheels are 7.5"x15" with 235x60x15 BF Goodrich TA Radial tires mounted, while the rears are 9.5"x15" and have 275x60x15 BFG's. The fiberglass GT40 Mk1 body is factory painted black in base-coat,clear-coat with silver stripes. The real leather interior has a full set of Smith's gauges, Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel, 6-point racing harness, Tilton pedals, air conditioning and carpeting. The engine is a high nickel-content, 1965 Ford 289 c.i. block that has been bored and stroked to the period-correct LeMans racing limit of 5 liters (305 c.i.) and has been built to produce 400 HP/400 foot-pounds of torque. It has a balanced assembly, forged rods, hypereutectic pistons, split-duration (.520/.523) cam, aluminum heads, 1.6 roller-rockers, MSD electronic ignition, high volume oil pump, oversized Milodon oil pan with a remote oil cooler, four twin Weber 48 IDF carburetors with velocity stacks and an aluminum cold-air box, with the exhaust flowing through the famed "bundle-of-snakes." Power is transmitted through a custom prepared (upgraded rear main bearings, altered spigot and clutch fork) Getrag 01E 6-speed transaxle. This BEC GT40 Mk1 is fully-sorted, has won numerous show awards, has been featured in a magazine and gets driven regularly...however, it has never been raced. The reason I am selling is because I have an opportunity to buy a large car collection from an estate and I could use the room as well as the funds. This GT40 is being sold "as is, where is." I welcome calls (858-705-1912) as well as inspections. The winning bidder will be required to send via payPal a $2000 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of the end of the auction with the balance of the Purchase Price to be paid within 7 days. The car will not be released until the purchase price is paid in full. Shipping is the responsibility of the Buyer. The car is being offered for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. |

Shelby boosts production of 575-hp Raptor on early demand
Mon, 08 Apr 2013Shelby American unveiled its all-new Shelby Raptor at the New York Auto Show last month, saying that it would build just 100 examples of its off-road bad boy, a pickup priced at $17,995 over the cost of the donor Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. But the Las Vegas outfit apparently underestimated just how popular the supercharged 575-horsepower 4x4 would actually be.
Strong early demand reportedly has Shelby singing a whole new tune, as the company is now saying it will build upwards of 500 units annually. While the increased production will likely make for at least 400 more happy owners, those who were on the original short list - possibly speculating on future values - might not be grinning as much. Needless to say, the company has assured everyone that each and every one of the modified Raptors will still be listed in the official Shelby registry.
Keep in mind that Ford isn't sitting idle on its trophy-truck-for-the-street, either. The company will reveal its own 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor Special Edition this month.
Performance CNG wants to crowdfund natural gas-powered Ford Mustang
Fri, May 16 2014Soliciting investments to develop a street-legal compressed natural gas (CNG) powered Ford Mustang that can deliver 470 horsepower certainly wouldn't make sense on a site called Indiestopstop. Nope, Indiegogo is the more-appropriately-named site that one Michigan entrepreneur is using to try and crowdfund his CNG 'Stang. He's looking to raise $55,000. Michigan's Daryl Patrishkoff and his company Performance CNG LLC showed off their converted 2003 Mustang last year at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Royal Oak, MI in an effort to get some exposure for the car, which can run on both gas and CNG. The company and its three-man team is looking to further develop the project in the name of a fueling source that is 40 percent cheaper than gasoline, throws off as much as 30 percent fewer tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions and makes the country less dependent on foreign oil. Performance CNG estimates that just 120,000 of the world's 15 million CNG-powered vehicles are in the US and is calling for more. As for the $55 grand, Patrishkoff estimates that more than half of that amount would be committed to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) testing of emissions, fuel economy and horsepower. The problem? As of right now, only $150 has been raised. Check out Performance CNG's press release below and see the fundraising effort on Indiegogo here. Eco-Friendly Muscle Car? CNG vehicles save money, emit less pollution and creates jobs from American-mined fuel SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich., May 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Daryl Patrishkoff of Shelby Township, MI, has a vision for the American automotive industry. He firmly believes that our fuel of choice should be Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), not gasoline. Until the full CNG infrastructure is in place a Bi-Fuel vehicle, fueled by either CNG or gasoline upon the drivers command, is the bridge vehicle that can lead this transition. Patrishkoff heads up a (3) man technical team developing this technology. The advantages are: 40 percent savings in fuel costs at the pump 25-30 percent reduction in harmful emissions 100 percent US provided natural gas Meaningful employment for the US economy The most important benefit, however, is that a CNG-powered vehicle runs on fuel that can be mined in America, eliminating the need for foreign oil. "After decades of political rhetoric, these types of vehicles can truly lead the US to energy independence," he said.
Shelby GT350 to be auctioned for charity at Barrett-Jackson in January
Fri, Dec 26 2014If you just have to be the first person in the world to possess the latest Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang, then you need to be bidding during the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ, on January 17. That's because Ford is offering the chance to own the inaugural production example of its latest premiere pony car there. The buyer of the first GT350 gets to choose from any color and all of the available packages for their car. Although, the real highlight is probably being among the first to listen to the 5.2-liter V8 under the hood with its flat-plane crankshaft. Ford promises that the mill makes over 500 horsepower and more than 400 pound-feet of torque. To sweeten the deal even further, all of the proceeds of the sale go to the JDRF, a charity that funds type 1 diabetes research. There's no reserve on the auction for the GT350 but don't expect a bargain. Last year, the first 2015 'Stang raised $300,000 for the JDRF at the Barrett-Jackson sale, and the initial Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 brought in $650,000 for charity. You can read Ford's entire announcement about the event below. FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO SELL NEW SHELBY GT350 MUSTANG AT BARRETT-JACKSON SCOTTSDALE AUCTION TO BENEFIT JDRF First publicly available production unit of the all-new Shelby GT350® Mustang to be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, with all proceeds benefiting JDRF Winning bidder will be able to choose from available colors and packages for Shelby GT350 Ford-sponsored ride-and-drives during the auction will feature a full lineup of 2015 vehicles Ford Motor Company will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Shelby GT350 Mustang by auctioning the first production unit of the new-generation car available to the public for charity at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona. Live coverage of the auction of the Shelby GT350 will air on Velocity on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015. The winning bidder of lot No. 3008 – selling at No Reserve – will become owner of the coveted first retail production unit of Ford Shelby GT350, and choose from available Shelby GT350 colors and packages. In January 1964, Carroll Shelby and Ford Motor Company forever altered the automotive industry with the introduction of the GT350. It was offered through Ford dealers from 1965 through 1970.
