THIS IS A FANTASTIC, FUN TO DRIVE CAR FOR NOT A LOT OF MONEY.    IT HAS LEATHER RECARO SEATS, A HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE AND A SIX SPEED TRANSMISSION.

My SVT has under 37,000 miles (36,113 as of 6/16 @ 10:03EDT but I am still driving it regularly).   I bought it from an older gentleman (in his 60's....I am 58) who said that he'd owned it almost since it was new.    I've only put around 5,000 miles on the car....I mostly commute to work on a scooter.   I have been gentle with the car and I believe the previous owner was, also.

The SVT's interior is very good.   I'm sure it isn't perfect but nothing comes to mind.   It has leather Recaro seats up front with seat heaters.  It has a glass sunroof.    I'm not sure if the lighter/power outlets work---I've never used either of them.   It has a  CD changer (that I've never used) and, since the radio sounds great, I'm figuring it has an upgraded sound system.

The exterior looks good.  The paint is very good.  There are a few little parking lot dimples and there is some residue of what likely was overspray (inside of gas access door, on bottom bolt in right rear fender well, below gas access door....nothing on rubber trim and nothing I've seen elsewhere).    This is noticeable only upon very close inspection.   I got a "clean" CarFax when I bought it and I've had no accidents.  The glass is all fine.  It has fog lights.  The bumpers and side skirts are in very good shape.   The headlight lenses are cloudy.

Mechanically, the car is in very good shape. The engine accelerates smoothly.   The (6 speed) transmission shifts well.   It drives straight and stops straight.  The clutch engages early in it's travel and seems fine.  The tires are good.   The check engine light has come on a few times with a code indicating the car isn't heating up fast enough (P0125).  This is, apparently (based on my Internet research), a common issue with the SVT.  I have put a piece of tape on the lower grill to block air flow and that, along with the Florida summer heat, appears to have taken care of the problem...for now.   When the summer is over, I believe it will need a new thermostat.   In the meantime, the engine heats up properly and attains (according to the Temperature Gauge and the Oil Temperature Gauge) normal operating temperatures....it just, I guess, sometimes takes longer than the computer thinks it should.

The tires appear to be good.  The rims are good (I have no doubt that they are not perfect).

I have had no mechanical issues except for: 1) The code (see above)  2) The "door open" indicator light staying lit.   Following instructions I found on the internet, I sprayed some cleaner around the door locks and that fixed it.  3) The front windshield wipers don't park (at the bottom of the windshield) on their own most of the time.

The a/c blows cold.  The previous owner reports having had the condenser(?) replaced.   I do have at least some of his records.   Besides an oil change and cleaning the door-close sensors, I haven't had to do anything.

There is some wrinkled paint on the exhaust(?) manifold.

Please feel free to email me questions.

Because it is used, the car will be sold "as is".   I will be available for a shipper to pick up after payment in full has cleared.  Buyer is responsible for shipping.    The car will be available for pickup during the day in downtown West Palm Beach---a few miles from the local airport, PBI.   I am not available to pick up the buyer at the airport.

I have clean title in my possession.   The car will have to be registered in the name of the new owner if it going to be driven off but I would deliver it, after payment in full has cleared, within 50 miles of downtown West Palm Beach.

Since it is used, the car will be sold "AS IS" and "WITH ALL FAULTS".

Ford faces class-action lawsuit for selling vehicles without brake override systems

Fri, 29 Mar 2013

A total of 20 Ford customers are suing the automaker in a class-action lawsuit for selling vehicles "vulnerable to unintended acceleration." According to Reuters, the suit names 30 models built between 2002 and 2010 with electronic throttle control systems but without a brake override system. Those include the 2004-2012 F-Series pickups and the 2005-2009 Lincoln Town Car. Adam Levitt, a partner with the law firm of Grant & Eisenhofer says the plaintiffs in the case want "to be compensated for their economic losses by having overpaid for cars that contained defects." Levitt contends that the plaintiffs would not have bought their vehicles or paid less for them had they known there was no brake override system in place.
Ford began installing brake override systems in its vehicles beginning in 2010. In response to the lawsuit, Ford has pointed to research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that indicated that unintended acceleration is mostly caused by driver error, saying in a statement that, "NHTSA's work is far more scientific and trustworthy than work done by personal injury lawyers and their paid experts."
Belville et al v. Ford Motor Co. will be heard in US District Court in the Southern District of West Virginia.

For EV drivers, realities may dampen the electric elation

Mon, Feb 20 2023

The Atlantic, a decades-old monthly journal well-regarded for its intelligent essays on international news, American politics and cultural happenings, recently turned its attention to the car world. A piece that ran in The Atlantic in October examined the excesses of the GMC Hummer EV for compromising safety. And now in its latest edition, the magazine ran a compelling story about the challenges of driving an electric vehicle and how those experiences “mythologize the car as the great equalizer.” Titled “The Inconvenient Truth About Electric Vehicles,” the story addresses the economics of EVs, the stresses related to range anxiety, the social effects of owning an electric car — as in, affording one — and the overarching need for places to recharge that car. Basically, author Andrew Moseman says that EV life isn't so rosy: “On the eve of the long-promised electric-vehicle revolution, the myth is due for an update. Americans who take the plunge and buy their first EV will find a lot to love Â… they may also find that electric-vehicle ownership upends notions about driving, cost, and freedom, including how much car your money can buy. "No one spends an extra $5,000 to get a bigger gas tank in a Honda Civic, but with an EV, economic status is suddenly more connected to how much of the world you get to see — and how stressed out or annoyed youÂ’ll feel along the way.” Moseman charts how a basic Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck might start at $55,000, but an extended-range battery, which stretches the distance on a charge from 230 miles to 320, “raises the cost to at least $80,000. The trend holds true with all-electric brands such as Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid, and for many electric offerings from legacy automakers. The bigger battery option can add a four- or five-figure bump to an already accelerating sticker price.” As for the charging issue, the author details his anxiety driving a Telsa in Death Valley, with no charging stations in sight. “For those who never leave the comfort of the city, these concerns sound negligible," he says. "But so many of us want our cars to do everything, go everywhere, ferry us to the boundless life we imagine (or the one weÂ’re promised in car commercials),” he writes. His conclusions may raise some hackles among those of us who value automotive independence — not to mention fun — over practicalities.

European jury picks finalists for 2015 Car of the Year

Tue, Dec 16 2014

There are countless Car of the Year awards handed out each year, and naturally, Europe has its own way of doing things. Every year, a panel of jurists representing seven publications in seven different languages and seven different countries get together to name their joint Car of the Year. The panel released a list of 32 candidates back in July, and it has now whittled that list down to seven nominees. The list consists of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, the Citroen C4 Cactus (shown), the Ford Mondeo, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Nissan Qashqai, the Renault Twingo and the Volkswagen Passat. Of those seven, only two are available in the US – those being the Mondeo (sold Stateside as the Fusion) and the C-Class. The Passat is an entirely different model in North America, the Qashqai isn't offered here, Citroen and Renault don't even participate in our market and the BMW 2 Series is represented here only by the completely different coupe and convertible. Expect the one and only recipient of the 2015 Car of the Year award to be announced at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March, and while you're waiting, you can place your guesses for the eventual winner in Comments.
