This is a great little car and the winner of the auction will be very happy.  I am selling it for a friend that is very ill, and won't be driving any time soon.  He bought it brand new here in Los Angeles, and has loved and taken care of it since.  NO stories or excuses, just a really nice car.  It looks nice, and drives tight and right.  Amazing for 150K miles.  Feels more like 80K miles.  It's rated at 33 mpg, I can tell because the original window sticker is still in the car.  MSRP was $14,450.  It has the optional power group that gives power windows, alarm, power locks and power mirrors.  It also has the premium group that gives 16" wheels, courtesy lighting,  cruise control, tilt wheel and front seat armrest.  The owners manual is in the glove box.
Low BlueBook is $2150 and Retail BlueBook is $3650.   On a car lot, it would sell for $3995 easily.   It should auction for just under retail book in this market and gas prices.  No Reserve, so we will let the market set the price.
I just drove the car over 50 miles and it ran great.  He just had several things serviced in the last 4 months for over $1000.  I think it was a new clutch and other items.  The clutch feels perfect.  I will add the list of services, when I can reach the owner in the hospital.  A/C blows cold, oil is clean and everything I tried worked properly.  The tires are about 50-60% remaining and wearing evenly.  It just passed a smog check, and I have the certificate for you.  The California registration is good until April 2014.
There are a few small scrapes on the rear bumper (see pictures), and very little sand damage to the front bumper and hood.  Pretty minor for the miles I think.  I just had the car detailed, so it's ready to drive away, or give as a gift to someone special.
Please follow my deposit instructions within 48 hours, and pick the car up within 7 days.  Failure to follow these and I will file for resolution.  I like the auction process, so please don't ask me to end it early for you.  Please don't bid if you are not going to buy the car.
My guarantee:  If you don't like the car after winning the auction, making the deposit, and driving it, you don't have to buy it, but you do lose your $250 deposit.  I never try to force a sale.  I have the car available in Thousand Oaks if you want to check it out before bidding.  You can see it at 7 Duesenberg Dr., Thousand Oaks, CA.  Email me for an appointment. Yes, I am a car dealer, but this is just a private party sale for a friend in need.  Paperwork will be from him to you.  Clear title in hand.

Tier 1 suppliers call GM the worst OEM to work with

Mon, 12 May 2014

Among automakers with a big US presence, General Motors is the worst to work for, according to a new survey from Tier 1 automotive suppliers, conducted by Planning Perspectives, Inc.
The Detroit-based manufacturer, which has been under fire following the ignition switch recall and its accompanying scandal, finished behind six other automakers with big US manufacturing operations. Suppliers had issues with trust and communications, as well as intellectual property protection. GM was also the least likely to allow suppliers to raise their prices in the face of unexpected increases in material cost, all of which contributed to 55 percent of suppliers saying their relationship with GM was "poor to very poor."
GM's cross-town competitors didn't fare much better. Chrysler finished in fifth place, ahead of GM and behind Dearborn-based Ford, which was passed for third place this year by Nissan. Toyota took the top marks, while Honda captured second place.

2015 Ford F-150 spied in the rain

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

Standing as quite a contrast from the spy shots of the 2015 Ford Mustang we saw earlier today, our spies also sent along these pictures of the next-generation F-150 pickup out testing in its (heavily camouflaged) full prototype body. Much of the new truck's design is hidden under the bulky coveralls, but we expect a lot of its new lines to be inspired by the Atlas concept that debuted at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Perhaps the biggest unknown surrounding the new F-150 is what, exactly, its body will be made of. Earlier reports have suggested that lightweight aluminum materials may be used throughout, offering a serious reduction in weight versus previous models. But Ford engineers will need to be careful, though, as they need to keep a tight rein on costs while preserving class-competitive (if not class-leading) towing and payload capacity.
On the powertrain front, the new F-150 will undoubtedly carry on with EcoBoost engines, and we'd bet on a normally aspirated V8 as well. A diesel option hasn't been confirmed, but we wouldn't be surprised to see one some time in the truck's lifecycle. Mum's the word on when the production F-150 will be revealed, but our best guess is that we'll see it at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

First Ford Mustang prototype shots caught by legendary spy shooter Jim Dunne

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

You know how people refer to someone as having "been around the block" to mean they're very experienced? Well, when it comes to automotive spy photography, Jim Dunne actually laid down the concrete slabs of the block's sidewalk. The unforgettable Dunne more or less invented the car spy game - a fact he cemented by writing book called Car Spy - and has been delivering spy shots and reporting on the industry for some 45 years now. (He also once employed this writer as his impromptu personal chauffer on a Volkswagen trip in Germany, while he slept, but that's a story for a different time.)
In any event, Dunne must be on a mission to prove that "elder statesman" doesn't also mean "washed up" as it is his shots of the upcoming new 2014 Ford Mustang that we've been handed by our friends at KGP Photography.
Mr. Dunne has likely spent the last few years obtaining powerful telescopic lenses, as the Ford in question has clearly been photographed from some distance. Nevertheless, what you see here is visual evidence that the sixth-generation Mustang has moved beyond the mule stage, and is now testing in proper prototype form. Sources indicate that there are production-spec body panels under that baggy canvass dress; but the slightly less bulky silhouette of the new car can be just made out. While the car's bumpers have been removed to obfuscate things, we can tell by way of the camo's apertures that the car's taillights have moved upwards and towards the lip of the tail. A fender vent appears to be visible, too, just behind the front wheel.
