This is a 1980 base model Ford Fiesta MK1. It's small, and a cool little European car. First generation and only imported for a couple of years. Manufactured in Germany but has the larger 1.6L motor compared to the 1.1 and 1.3 found in many Fiestas and Festivas. Averages about 40 mpg I'd guess. It is a 4 speed transmission, and a very basic car. No power steering or power brakes. But almost all brake components have been replaced. New components: brake master cylinder, hoses, wheel cylinders, calipers, drums, self adjust arms and cams, E-brake cables, rear hatch struts, fuel pump, plugs, plug wires The car is very cold-natured. The choke mechanism has been removed but I will include a very nice correct replacement Italian Weber carb to the buyer. I also have 3 or 4 different repair manuals to go with the car. All lights, signals, and horn work. It is currently inspected, registered, tagged, and driven in NC. I have a clear NC title. The car has usual rust issues, one spot on the rear quarter where rear screen washer tank leaked. Also rust along front lower lip below bumper, and some around the passenger side bumper mount. Floor pans have some weak areas, mostly due to a leaky passenger side window seal allowing water in during hard rains.Car cranks up, runs, drives, and stops fine. I drove it for months every day at highway speeds around 60-70mph, but will go 80 without a problem. Carb is showing age though and should probably be swapped with the replacement I am providing. Shifts fine. Main issue for me is the muffler. It is straight piped with a cherry bomb. Not only is it too loud but is run too close to the front frame rail and sometimes vibrates against it making unneccessary noise. These cars are kind of rare here in the U.S. and I'd say it's at least worth my asking price considering it is currently in driver condition and not rotted or gutted out like many I see for sale.
speedo states 31360 but has turned over at least once, probably not twice though given the engine condition. If you are close enough to come look at it or just have general questions, feel free to call at 336-648-1487, or use the ebay message option. If you call and I don't answer , I am likely at work which is generally from 2:30pm-1am. Just leave a message and I will call back. Edit: While driving around tonight, about 10 minutes ago to get gas and stop by the store, the bulb that lights the speedometer went out. The other dash lights including the fuel gauge/temp light still work, so I am assuming it is just the bulb. But wanted to mention it. |

Ford drops Focus RS teaser ahead of Feb 3 reveal
Wed, Jan 21 2015Ford is trying to get us hyped for the unveiling of the latest Focus RS on February 3 with this new video teaser. The clip showcases the hot hatch doing some big slides in the wet and dry during testing in Europe and the US, and it definitely makes us even more curious about what the Blue Oval has in store with the RS. Even in this short teaser, Ford continues to dress the more aggressive nose of the Focus RS in camouflage, like the previous test cars. Unfortunately, what's going on under all of that concealment remains a bit of a mystery. Rumors suggest the RS likely uses a tuned version of the Blue Oval's 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder estimated to make between 325 and 350 horsepower. A speculated torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system should keep fears of torque steer at bay, and larger brakes on the test mules indicate that bringing it all to a halt shouldn't be a problem, either. We do know that the hotter Focus will be among the "more than 12" vehicles that the new Ford Performance division will develop through 2020, and the RS will come to the US for the first time. However, US-spec RS models will likely be imported from Europe, which will keep numbers here low and will mean prices estimated to be around $30,000 or more. Until the official specs become available, at least enjoy watching this hot hatch's ability to slide.
10 automakers shack up in Detroit hotel to talk Takata airbags
Sun, Dec 14 2014Since Takata has decided not to take the lead concerning potential issues with its airbag inflators, the automakers have. Perhaps that's unsurprising, since it's the automakers, not Takata, that will take a beating on the dealership floor if consumers decide its models are a health hazards. The Detroit News reports that Toyota, Honda, General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, BMW, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru met in a hotel conference room near the Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week to sort out a way to understand the technical issues involved. So far, faulty airbag inflators have been ruled the cause of five deaths and 50 injuries around the world, but neither Takata nor investigators understands exactly why the inflators are malfunctioning. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently asked Takata to issue a national recall, Takata declined, citing a minuscule failure rate and the fact that it's still investigating the issue. Toyota and Honda then made an industry-wide appeal for "a coordinated, comprehensive testing program" that would pinpoint the problem inflators and get them replaced, and that's what the Detroit meeting was about. Numerous issues, however, will make this a long row to hoe: simply getting the parts to replace the nearly 20 million inflators in cars recalled around the world so far - even working with other suppliers - will take a years, but more importantly, no one knows if the replacement inflators currently being installed will suffer the same issue. Answers will hopefully come quickly with Takata, the ten automakers and NHTSA all independently investigating the problem.
280-bhp Elemental RP1 revealed, now with bike-engine option
Thu, Jun 26 2014The Elemental RP1 might be Britain's next big boutique roadster success story. Designed by a team with Formula One experience, it aims to mix road car drivability with racecar performance in a single, adaptable package weighing less than 1,000 pounds. It was first previewed a few weeks ago, but the secrecy has finally disappeared due to its upcoming debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The backbone of the RP1 is a carbon fiber and aluminum tub onto which the front and rear subframes bolt on. Inside, it has an F1-like, feet-up driving position that allows for additional underfloor aerodynamic aids to improve downforce. Despite its hardcore nature, Elemental says that it wants the car to be very user friendly. Buyers should be able to drive the RP1 to the track, adjust it with some wrenches, go racing and drive it home. The company even claims the storage areas to either side of the engine offer enough room for a helmet and other racing gear. Hopefully, buyers don't crash, though, otherwise they might be stuck. Elemental is adding two more engine options for the RP1, as well. In addition to the previously announced tuned Ford 2.0-liter EcoBoost with 280 horsepower, buyers can also choose a upgraded version of Ford's three-cylinder 1.0-liter EcoBoost or a model aimed at pure track use with a 999cc Honda Fireblade motorcycle engine. The 2.0-liter uses a six-speed sequential manual gearbox, and a limited-slip differential and alternate gear sets are available as additional options. The first RP1s built will be pure racers for the 2015 season, and the first road cars will follow in the early summer of next year. Pricing isn't set yet, but scroll down for more details and full specs of Britain's latest feather light car for road and track. Introducing the Elemental Rp1 Press Release: 23/6/2014 British sports car manufacturer, Elemental Motor Company Limited, today released further details of their new and innovative, road legal track car, the Rp1. The Rp1 is an open top, road legal, mid engined sports car that incorporates state of the art road and race car technologies. Designed, Engineered and Built by a team with decades of experience in the Formula One and Supercar industries, it brings the concept of a road legal track car firmly into the 21st Century. The Rp1 will be revealed to the public for the first time, this weekend, at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it will located in the Moving Motor Show tent "First Glance" display.
