My collection is primarily 1960's/70's European sports cars but I couldn't resist recently taking this fun Ford Falcon beach wagon/movie car in trade from another collector. This car doesn't really fit with my collection so I'm offering it up for sale now. Wow, does this Falcon get attention just driving around town.

This 1964 Ford Falcon 4-door station wagon lived it's entire life in Texas and Florida before being sold to the previous owner in Virginia a year ago. It is clean and rust free except for a very small (size of a nickel) surface spot on the lower end of the rear tailgate. I believe the car was originally all white but the lower part was painted gray. While the photos look great, this is not a show car- it looks lived in with a nice patina that I would keep if I was the next owner. In person the gray is a bit darker than shown in the photos- which were taken this week in bright sunlight. It is, in my mind, a very cool, very rare, surf wagon that will hold it's own next to all the VW Busses on your next cruise to the shore. I'd call it a 20 footer with the usual small dings and marks of a car that has been driven...that said, it would certainly not look out of place at any car show or cruise-in. Chrome is nice all around including the optional Falcon roof rack...The glass is very good all around. The interior, I am assuming, was redone at some point, but looks very original and is very clean. Carpet is dark gray and in very good shape. There are lap belts front and back.  All gauges work except for the left turn signal. This wagon has an electric rear window which goes up and down as it should, but sometimes sticks for a second or two. All windows crank as they should, and all doors close tight. Tires are good wide whites with maybe 50% tread left mounted on standard 13 inch rims.

The car runs great. It's not fast... but who is in a hurry? ...you're getting the very durable 200 CID 6 cylinder engine mated to the Ford Falcon 2 speed automatic transmission. The odometer and title have about 131,000 miles and I believe it to be accurate. All motor fluids were serviced last fall and less than 500 miles ago.

Some nice extra's are included for the new owner: Original 1964 owners manual, 1964 Ford shop manual, the original cylinder head (red), Ford rear mats and a spare original Ford AM radio. The car currently has a neat repro (modern made to look old) am/fm radio with dash top speaker.

If all that isn't enough, this Falcon Wagon has the added cache of having had a minor role in a famous movie- "The Rookie", starring Dennis Quaid in 2002. It's the true story of a Texas HS baseball coach who gets a second chance at the major leagues (Google it). In fact, one of the reasons the previous two owners resisted doing any additional cosmetic work on the car is that it still looks exactly as it did in the movie and why mess with a good thing. During a shot from the movie you can see the Falcon towing a small u-haul trailer. I was told the Disney company beefed up the rear end a bit as a result. Otherwise, the car was sold by Disney after use in the movie to an earlier owner in Florida, before it came to Virginia. There's a custom front license plate that you can see in the photo's identifying the car as the same one that was in the movie.

Oh... the surf board doesn't go with the car but if you want it- let me know and we can work something out. Also listed for sale locally so the listing may be ended at any time.

Auto investor Kirk Kerkorian dead at 98

Wed, Jun 17 2015

Kirk Kerkorian, among the most talked-about investors in the American auto industry in recent memory, died at the age of 98 in Los Angeles on Monday, June 15. The billionaire ran the investment company Tracinda Corp. and was the largest shareholder in MGM Resorts International. Kerkorian attempted to use his power as a well-financed investor to push the auto industry in some fascinating ways. In 2006, he used his nearly 10-percent stake in General Motors to push a merger with the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The deal made it as far as discussions, but eventually fell through. Kerkorian also attempted to purchase Chrysler - twice. According to Automotive News, the first effort came in 1995 with a $22.8-billion offer for the automaker, and soon after it failed the company merged with Daimler. Then in 2007, Kerkorian was back with a bid for $4.5 billion, but things eventually fell to Cerberus. The billionaire finished the trifecta by buying up $1 billion in Ford stock in 2008 to make Kerkorian the single largest investor in the company. However, the situation didn't last long, and by the end of that year, he had unloaded the shares. According to Automotive News, Kerkorian was ranked by Forbes as the world's 41st richest man in 2008 with a net worth of $16 billion. 2016 Ford Taurus to ride atop reworked Fusion platform

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

Generally, cars get bigger and heavier as they get older. That's why it looks so ridiculous when you park a classic Mini next to a modern version. The same can be said of the Corvette, the BMW 3 Series, Porsche 911 and, of course, the Ford Taurus. In the Taurus' case, though, that size has become a liability, particularly because the big brute isn't nearly as sizable on the inside as it is on the out.
For 2016, Ford is aiming to rectify that. According to Edmunds, the 2016 Taurus will ride on a stretched and widened Ford Fusion platform. Ford is expecting this move to go a long way in trimming the Taurus' ample body fat.
"The problem with today's Taurus is that it is overweight and even the high performance SHO is not really competitive," said a source that spoke to Edmunds on condition of anonymity. The 365-horsepower SHO variant, "actually weighs about as much as the stretched Audi A8 L. Of course, Audi uses an extensive amount of aluminum, but it is a much bigger car."

Ford celebrates 1 millionth Mustang built at Flat Rock

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

Yesterday, the Ford Mustang turned 49 years old, and Ford didn't miss the opportunity to celebrate the one millionth version of the Mustang rolling off the assembly line at the Flat Rock Assembly plant. Production of the Mustang at Flat Rock coincided with the fifth-generation design launching in 2004, and the one millionth car was the car shown above, a 2014 GT convertible painted in Ruby Red.
In total, Ford has sold more than 8.5 million Mustangs since the original car went on sale, but some of the key milestones over the car's nine years at Flat Rock include the Shelby GT-H, Bullitt, Boss 302 and, of course, the 662-horsepower Shelby GT500. Scroll down for a press release celebrating Flat Rock's milestone Mustang.
