1963 Ford Falcon Futura 4 Door Sedan

Car has a 170ci Inline six cylinder engine and a 2 speed automatic transmission, both believed to be original to the car.  The engine has been completely rebuilt at a cost of $1734 with all new internal parts.  I have all of the specifications on the rebuild and also all maintenance records and receipts.   A mechanic at a local shop told me the carburetor will need to be adjusted or replaced.  It is original and has been sitting on a shelf in my shop for many years during the restoration.  Everything is original except the seat belts, I installed newer, (1974), Ford ones for safety and the generator has been replaced with an alternator.  Car is rust free, paint is ok for a driver, body has no dents, and all the chrome trim is in very good shape.  All glass is original and in very good shape for its age.  Windows roll up/down as they should and doors open/close as they should, all work well for their age.  Under carriage is rust free.  Front end completely restored to as original and beautifully detailed.  New carpet has been installed with sound proofing underneath.  All 5 tires have 90% tread on them and engine has less than 100 miles sense rebuild.  Too many new parts to list.  I purchased this car in 2008 to restore but am now retiring.  I have sold my shop and need to sell this little Falcon to a new home.  Once the fuel delivery issue is sorted out I believe she would make a nice safe driver for someone’s teenager who likes older cars.  Sale also includes the following parts:  Chrome side mirror, 4 new chrome door handles, new door lock set, shop manuals, new engine decal kit, original generator, and original seat belts.  Car is being sold as is with no warranty written or implied.  Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and cost, I will help with loading on this end if needed.

Mysterious small Ford spied in Germany

Sat, 29 Jun 2013

Our spy photographers have just popped off a few shots of something curious. This little runabout was spotted in Germany out testing with a current-generation Ford Fiesta. We're fairly confident the machine is a Ford, but exactly which Ford model is up for debate. The hatchback could be the next-generation Ka, but we've also heard that the Blue Oval supermini might not get a replacement. Our shooter says the five-door is a bit smaller than the current Fiesta, though there is a chance that this rig is just an engineering mule for drivetrain development. Then again, it could be a model built specifically for the South African market or China, or not a Ford at all.
Whatever it is and wherever it's headed, you can check out in the gallery for a closer look before heading into Comments to weigh in with your best guess.

Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]

Tue, 05 Feb 2013

Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
