This Falcon was restored in the mid-eighties and was used as a show car for local car shows and annual national FCA events (in which it won trophies in stock class) without so much as a hiccup. When I bought the vehicle it had a pretty severe rear main seal leak after driving it from sitting with no use for a couple years when the previous owner could no longer drive it. The 144CID engine seemed tired so I replaced it with a good, extremely low mileage (appx. 5,000 mile) 170CID mill from my other Falcon. I went through the entire car to make sure it was in good tune and drove nicely. I installed an alternator in place of the generator, replaced the radiator, rear shocks, hoses, belts, carburetor, distributor, choke cable, worn column shift mechanism, repainted the steering wheel, and I'm sure I'm forgetting other bits and pieces I went through. It is very pleasant to drive. It starts, stops, rides, and steers as it should. *Be aware this is a manual three speed column shift, meaning the first gear in the transmission is not synchronized if you did not already now that.* It however, is not a perfect car. It is a driver, not a trailer queen. I'd give it a 6.5-7 out of 10 overall visually, and a 9 out of 10 mechnically with 1 being worst and 10 being best. It has an OK paint job, pretty nice trim, bumpers, and a very nice interior. The car needs the underside gone through if you want it 100% perfect. The front floor pans had an older repair job/patch done to them that is solid, but not correct. The rearmost part of the framerails were replaced with new metal. The torque boxes are getting scaly/rusted but aren't gone by any means. It has some very small filler/rust popping here and there in front of and behind the quarters. Just old bodywork and paint showing it's age. The quarters were replaced from the door opening back when it was restored. The car is very solid and can and is driven the way it is. The casual observer wouldn't notice the exterior flaws, and highly I doubt would notice the underbody issues. The underside of this Falcon is pretty good, don't get me wrong, I'm just picky and making sure I describe it as best and truthfully as I can. It is NOT a rust bucket, nor is it perfect. Just a nice looking, reliable, economical way to get into classic cars or just a nice car to take to shows or cruise around town in. If you would like any additional information or pictures, please don't hesitate to ask. I will gladly answer questions or take more specific photos if they are requested.

Project Ugly Horse: Part VII
Fri, 12 Apr 2013Devils, Details and Weight Reduction
There are many things I could call this exercise. A party is not one of them.
I've spent three days crammed in the axle well of this 1989 Mustang with nothing to keep me company beyond a trouble light, a DeWalt drill on the very last of its legs and billion razor sharp, red hot slivers of metal with an affinity for my most sensitive of regions. My joints are raw from crawling around on the concrete. I'm half deaf from the shriek of the spot weld cutter and the boom of the cold chisel and hammer.
Ford previews new C-Max ahead of upcoming debut
Mon, 15 Sep 2014Looking at a Ford Focus? These days you can get it as a five-door hatch, a four-door sedan, or... that's all. European buyers don't even get our sedan, but they do get a wagon. And while the three-door hatch, two-door coupe and two-door cabrio have long since ended production, buyers around the world can also get the company's larger C-Max. And now, like the Focus upon which it's based, Ford is preparing to roll out a new version.
The tall wagon (or small minivan, depending on your perspective) is being treated to what Ford says is "an extreme makeover." Details to accompany the teaser image above remain few and far between, but following the spy shots we recently posted, it looks destined for some of the same visual updates as Ford rolled out on the 2015 Focus, with "even more refinement, practicality and technology."
Like the Mercedes B-Class, which is only available Stateside as an EV, American buyers can only get the C-Max in electrified form, either as the C-Max Hybrid or C-Max Energi. Overseas buyers, however, will be able to choose from a range of powertrain options and two wheelbase lengths - the longer of which boasts seven seats and the Grand C-Max name. (Remember when Chrysler did the same with its minivans?) Both are set to debut on September 17, so watch this space. After that, we'll expect to see it on display at the Paris Motor Show.
Ford recalling 450,000 Fusion, Mercury Milan sedans
Tue, Nov 24 2015Ford has announced a pair of recalls, and both are critical safety issues. The exponentially larger of the two recall campaigns affects over 450,000 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans manufactured at the Hermosillo plant between July 21, 2008, and March 4, 2011. The canister purge valve in the fuel tank could malfunction and could cause the top of the tank to crack and leak fuel. That could cause a fire, although Ford "is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires" resulting from the issue. Affected vehicles will have their ECU software updated and their fuel tanks inspected for potential replacement. The company estimates there are 411,205 affected units in the United States (and its federalized territories), plus another 33,605 in Canada, and 7,055 in Mexico. The second recall affects 13 F-650 trucks. The column shifter's park position mechanism may fracture and let the truck roll away unexpectedly. Those 2016 models built in Ohio between July 29 and September 3, 2015 are all located in the US. Fixing the problem will require replacing the steering column and reconfiguring the instrument panel. FORD ISSUES TWO SAFETY RECALLS IN NORTH AMERICA DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 23, 2015 – Ford Motor Company is issuing two safety recalls in North America. Ford is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to these conditions. Details are as follows: Ford issues safety recall for certain 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles in North America for potential fuel tank issue Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for approximately 450,000 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles for a potential issue with the fuel tank. Some of these vehicles might have a canister purge valve that does not work properly, causing internal pressure changes inside the fuel tank. Repeated pressure changes inside the tank could result in a crack on the top of the tank, possibly allowing fuel to leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can lead to a fire. Ford is not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires related to this condition. Affected vehicles include certain 2010-2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant from July 21, 2008 through March 4, 2011. There are a total of approximately 451,865 vehicles that might be affected in North America, including 411,205 vehicles in the United States and federalized territories, 33,605 in Canada and 7,055 in Mexico.
