I needed a truck. Bought one. Now I need to sell my car. This has been my daily for the last 2 1/2 years. The car has been maintained to a high standard and as proven to be extremely reliable. The undercarriage is quite rust-free, the rear quarters being the only area of rust-through. I removed the entire front end and painted/coated the entire area when I bought the car. I also replaced the entire brake system, radiator, heater core and repaired any item that was not functioning to factory standard. All fluids were changed within a week of purchase.

Factory options include the 170 cid Six, Ford-O-Matic, heater, electric wipers with washers and Deluxe package.

The interior remains largely as bought, and is complete, with the addition of carpet, sound deadening, and a modern stereo (hidden in the glovebox) with 4 speakers. No original panels were cut. The front seat is covered, due to deterioration. The rear seat has a rip on the upper bolster, left side. The headliner came part at the rear, and is therefore 1/3 missing. The trunk is solid, still retains the original mat, though it is not perfect, and quite hard, actually, yet it IS there. The spare tire and tools are present and properly restrained. There are 8 tires with the car, 4 highway tires and four snow tires. only five rims, however.

The car is still in use, and I use it for the long-distance runs I make to Princeton occasionally (200 miles round trip). It runs perfectly, stops straight and true, is in alignment, and has remained very, very reliable. The 170 is quite peppy, the automatic no handicap, and highway speeds are no problem (I do stay near the speed limit [65 or 70], don't need tickets).

To sum up, I believe this is a very drivable car, with the usual cosmetic issues of an older car. However, this particular one has fair low miles (67,xxx) and has been cared-for it's entire existence. I would rate the car 'good', yet my "good" may not be your 'good'. It is recommended that you inspect the car prior to purchase.

If you are wondering if the car is capable of long-distance travel, the answer is Yes. I will not, however, deliver the car. Payment is expected at the close of auction, or very near after. Storage for any longer than a week may prove problematical, as they are preparing to tear-up my street.

Thank you.

Report: GM struggling to market turbo technology

Tue, 20 Apr 2010

In the automotive realm, marketing can sometimes prove just as important as the actual product. Take, for instance, Ford's well regarded EcoBoost technology, which couples turbocharging with direct injection to produce more horsepower and reduce fuel consumption. Would it surprise you to hear that General Motors has had similar technology on the market for over three years?
It's true. GM's first turbocharged, direct injected powerplants hit the market for the 2007 model. The 2.0-liter Ecotec mills put down an impressive 260 horsepower and a matching 260 pound-feet of torque, and they were lauded by the press in the engine bays of the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, Chevrolet Cobalt SS and Chevrolet HHR SS. But few people outside a core group of enthusiasts actually remember this fact.
Says Uwe Grebe, executive director of GM's global advanced engineering, "We didn't have a badge and say, 'This is the most important thing we will put on all our brochures.'" Ford, however, did just that, and it's EcoBoost engines are right at the tips of all our tongues when we discuss today's most advanced powerplants. So, how does The General fix its mistake?

Lincoln MKC will be renamed the Corsair in 2021, probably

Mon, Jun 18 2018

Lincoln will be renaming its MKC crossover, calling it the Corsair instead. Automotive News is reporting that the recently trademarked, yet storied Ford model name Corsair will be affixed on the 2021 model year crossover. The report says Ford has already told its U.S. dealers about the name at an Orlando meeting last month. Ford has a long history with the Corsair nameplate in the States and abroad: Most recently, it has been in use in Australia in the early 1990s, in the UK in the 1960s, and before that Ford offered an Edsel Corsair in the late 1950s. Even if an Edsel connection might not be the best possible thing for a Ford product, let alone a Lincoln, it might serve the crossover well as Ford moves to ditch the MK naming convention it's used for Lincoln for the past decade. Still, the manufacturer is said to have cautioned dealers it might opt out of using the Corsair name before production time. At the same meeting, Ford reportedly showed the next-generation Escape, the Explorer, a battery electric crossover dubbed the Mach 1, a yet-unnamed small SUV (which might be the Bronco) , and a new Lincoln Continental complete with suicide doors. The MKC will still receive a refresh for next year, retaining its letters-name for a couple of years before the bigger redesign for 2021. Currently, the MKC is the strongest-selling Lincoln product in China, and it brings in numerous new Lincoln customers there. In the U.S. it's outsold by the MKX crossover and is neck-and-neck with the MKZ sedan.

European jury picks finalists for 2015 Car of the Year

Tue, Dec 16 2014

There are countless Car of the Year awards handed out each year, and naturally, Europe has its own way of doing things. Every year, a panel of jurists representing seven publications in seven different languages and seven different countries get together to name their joint Car of the Year. The panel released a list of 32 candidates back in July, and it has now whittled that list down to seven nominees. The list consists of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, the Citroen C4 Cactus (shown), the Ford Mondeo, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Nissan Qashqai, the Renault Twingo and the Volkswagen Passat. Of those seven, only two are available in the US – those being the Mondeo (sold Stateside as the Fusion) and the C-Class. The Passat is an entirely different model in North America, the Qashqai isn't offered here, Citroen and Renault don't even participate in our market and the BMW 2 Series is represented here only by the completely different coupe and convertible. Expect the one and only recipient of the 2015 Car of the Year award to be announced at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March, and while you're waiting, you can place your guesses for the eventual winner in Comments.
