1960 Holman&moody Ford Falcon 3x1 Carbs 4 Speed Full Ralley Suspension on 2040-cars
Midland, North Carolina, United States
In 1960 Holman & Moody was given 4 Falcons and money from Ford to create cars to be run in the Compact Car series put on by Bill France and others. The first race was at Denver, a 6 hour endurance event at Continental Divide Raceway. Then, 4 weeks later it moved to Sebring for a 2 hour race for compacts just before the Grand Prix main event on Sunday. Bill France had several races in January,1960 at Daytona International Speedway that were televised by CBS. These races were run by Corvairs, Falcons, Ramblers, Volvos, Larks, Jags, Valiants and several others. The drivers were some of the better drivers from that era being, Glen (Fireball) Roberts, Curtis Turner, Art Riley, and Pedro Rodriguez to name a few. The series was run for 2 years-1960 and 61 and then went away. One of the cars built by H&M was a display car known as "The North Carolina Falcon" as seen in March 1960 Hot Rod Magazine. This magazine also had an article about the Compact car race in Sebring before the Grand Prix race. Several of Holman & Moody employees were intrigued by this car when pictures of it were found in the H&M library by Charles Farr. With permission from H&M, President Lee Holman, it was decided to recreate this car so a search for information was started. Several of the old H&M employees were located and they were drilled for information along with articles and pictures that could be found. It was also learned that this car was to be a test bed for the Rally Falcons that were to be built later. This car was built in 2006 and used as a show car and cruiser for several years. It was then stored away until last month when brought out and serviced. It has a Ford 200 CI, with 3X1 carbs, and a Dagenham 4-speed. When this project was started it took several years to find the correct donor car an early 1960 Falcon with no rust. It was located in a garage in Locust NC about 30 miles from the shop. It was stripped to the bare metal and primed. then painted with enamel paint as it would have been in 1960. All the changes that H&M would have made on the car were also added to include boxed suspension, bigger sway bars, traction bars, larger wheels and brakes along with frame rails. The car will be sold with a clear NC title in my name, along with a BILL OF SALE from Holman & Moody, and a letter on H&M Stationary of Authenticity. This letter states that this is the only continuation car "The North Carolina Falcon" that will be allowed to be constructed. The car is in excellent shape and has been driven over 3000 mile since it was constructed with no issues. The engine and transmission were rebuilt along with all suspension to include steering box brakes and rear end. There was no rust in this car and it was always garaged before and after construction. It has the original floors and trunk along with original sheet metal. This vehicle would make an excellent display piece for a museum that wanted to show the compact series that was run in the early 60's or a cruiser. There will not be another one produced by Holman & Moody. |

Check out Ford's fully automated self-parking car [w/video]
Wed, 09 Oct 2013As automakers continue to find uses for autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle technology, Ford of Europe has announced that it is developing a self-parking system for future use. More advanced than the Active Park Assist already offered in many Ford products, the new Fully Assisted Parking Aid can take full control of the vehicle and can navigate angled and perpendicular parking spots.
While today's Active Park Assist can only parallel park with the driver controlling the gas, brake and gear selection, Fully Assisted Parking Aid can operate steering, gas, brake and gear selection all while making sure the car is properly parked in the intended space. As with APA, the driver pushes a button to make the car look for a proper spot (at speeds of up to 18 miles per hour), and when an adequate space is located, the operator pushes another button (either inside the car or outside via remote control) for the car to park itself - the button must be pressed throughout the whole parking maneuver. Even though Ford says that the car can effect gear selections on its own, the system must still start from Neutral, and the automaker isn't saying whether the car can put itself into Park when done or put itself in Drive when the operator is ready to go.
Ford is also taking the opportunity to announce its new Obstacle Avoidance technology. This automated system is able to detect objects - including pedestrians - in the road, warn drivers of said objects and, if needed, stop and steer automatically to avoid hitting the obstacle. Both systems are still in the prototype phase, so there is no word as to when we could see either on a production vehicle.
Porsche, Jaguar continue dominance in 2015 JD Power APEAL study
Wed, Jul 22 2015The top of JD Power's 2015 APEAL Study has not changed much in the last year. Porsche remains No. 1 with Jaguar nipping at its heels, although both premium brands saw their overall score fall compared to 2014. For those that need a refresher, the APEAL Study looks at how "gratifying" a vehicle is to own and drive, rating cars and brands on a 1,000-point scale. The industry average for 2015 has increased from 794 to 798, while the total number of automakers that finished above the curve increased from 16 to 20. While Porsche and Jaguar finished at the top, their scores dropped eight and seven points, respectively, to 874 and 855. The top "non-premium" brand was Mini, which scored an impressive 825, up from 795. If the BMW-owned British marque is still a bit too premium for your tastes, last year's non-premium winner, Hyundai, did climb five points and is this year's runner up. At the opposite end of the scale, Smart sits at the very bottom of the rankings, with a score of 683 (it didn't appear on the 2014 rankings). Fiat also dropped, from fourth worst in 2014 to second worst in 2015, despite the 500 being named most appealing city car. Subaru made an impressive climb, from third worst to seventh, falling just 10 points shy of the industry average and two points south of the non-premium average. In the individual vehicle segments, eight brands earned multiple awards, with Ford, Chevrolet, and Porsche earning three apiece. Surprise segment victories included the new Ford Expedition, which beat out Chevy's popular Suburban. The Infiniti QX80 bested the likes of the Cadillac Escalade and Range Rover for best large luxury SUV, and the Dodge Challenger beat its muscle car rivals from Ford and Chevy. Most of the victories, though, were quite predictable. The Mazda6 and CX-5 took wins for the midsize sedan and compact SUV categories respectively, while the Volkswagen Golf captured the compact car win. The Ford F-150 won the large pickup category, while the Porsche Cayman was named most appealing compact premium sporty car. Check out the official release on the 2015 APEAL Study, available below, from JD Power. 2015 U.S. APEAL Study Results The latest safety-related technologies are among the drivers of customer satisfaction with new vehicles, according to the J.D. Power 2015 U.S.
James Franco and tiger tease Ford Super Bowl commercial
Sat, 01 Feb 2014Ford has just released a teaser for its Super Bowl ad, and unlike just about every other automaker, it seems that the Blue Oval is going to make us wait until Sunday to see the full spot. The teaser is, um, strange.
It stars James Franco, who believes he is Ron Riggle, the comedian, Fox NFL Sunday host and retired Marine lieutenant colonel. There's also a tiger. The vague spot has Franco claiming that "this is no ordinary commercial." You'll note on the bottom right, there's a Ford logo and the hashtag #nearlydouble.
According to Automotive News, it's part of a massive viral effort being pushed forward by Ford and its dealerships. Ford sent different teasers and "vignettes" to dealership employees and asked them to share them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, in the hopes of creating a viral effect.
