I have decided to sell my 55 Ford Fairlane collector car.  Before I tell you about it, lets clear a couple of things up.  If you are looking for an all original, numbers matching 58 year old car, this is not it. They didn't even offer this color combination then.  So, what are we selling?  My dad had a blue and white version of this car when I was growing up.  As a diversion from running my business I decided to find one and fix it up.  Not the way a true to form collector or mechanic would, but the way I wanted so the car would run and function similar to todays autos, but look cool.  This rare 4 door version of the car runs great, turns heads and can become someones daily driver with less than 1000 miles on it since all of the new work.  Here is a list of everything I can remember that we have done; New Chevy 350 ci motor with four barrell carb, headers, dual exhaust ( I added quiet mufflers because I didn't like the rumble. Easy to make this car sound mean ) Freshly rebuilt chevy 3 speed auto transmission, 6v wiring changed to 12v, wipers changed from vacuum to electric, new radiator, belts, hoses, wiring, etc, new glass all the way around with tinting on the sides, new paint and interior including seat belts ( three in the front for girlfriend style ride) power steering, power front disc brakes, new rear brakes, new front end, new shocks and springs, new wheels and tires, built in air conditioning, great stereo with Ipod connection, dozens of chrome pieces replaced for new appearance, new heater coil, blower and ducts.  The door panels and head liner were removed and insulation was added to these areas, along with the trunk and engine compartment to reduce the cockpit noise like the newer cars have.  We installed current water temp and oil pressure gauges that can be seen in the photos at the base of the steering column.  With the new engine the mechanic insisted.  Everything else is pretty original inside.  The a/c system came from Classic Auto Air in Dallas and actually works through the original dash mounted controls.  Also, for those who remember, the dash mounted clock is a wind up clock like the old watches.  It works great but only runs for 2 days after each full wind.  If I think of anything else substantive I'll add it.  Suffice it to say I just kept writing checks until I got what I wanted.  Now it just sits in the garage and gets detailed every week. I am sure that someone will enjoy the ride and show as much as me, and use it more.  I do have the original  keys, owners manual and shop manual  The manuals are basically for show since most of what is in them is no longer in the car.  Ask questions and I'll do my best to answer.  This is obviously not a fire sale and if the car does not sell I will just drive some more and try again later.  I am a 100% positive feedback Ebayer.  Zero or low feedback bidders will be deleted.  Shipping can be arranged through the Ebay affilliate Uship.  The car is located in Lakeway Texas ( 78734 ) a suburb of Austin.  The opening number is less than I have in the car. This is the wrong car for many people, and the perfect car for someone. Best of luck.  I have a clear Texas title for this car. In Texas you can get ( which I have ) an "Antique Car" registration which is only renewable every five years and eliminates the need for state inspections. Also. the odometer says 92 or 93 something thousand miles but no one knows the actual mileage of this car since the meter starts over at 100K miles. I can confirm that the engine, drive train and everything else we did has less than 1000 miles on it.

2014 Ford Fusion order guide reveals new base Hybrid model, equipment changes

Tue, 23 Apr 2013

We've gotten our grubby little digits on the dealer order guide for the as-yet-unreleased 2014 Ford Fusion thanks to an anonymous tipster, and while there isn't much that's unexpected, there are some meaningful equipment changes to report after the rakish sedan's first year on the market.
Mechanically, the big news is, of course, the recently confirmed availability of the 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder paired with a six-speed automatic. The powertrain replaces the 1.6-liter automatic setup of 2013, though if you want a manual transmission, you'll still get the extra .1-liter of displacement.
On the equipment front, there are newly available rear inflatable seatbelts - as seen previously on the Explorer - along with a new heated steering wheel and cooled seat option on Titanium and Titanium Hybrid models (the latter two options will be late availability).

RWD Lincolns are coming, fate depends partly on MKZ success

Tue, 04 Dec 2012

The product portfolio at Lincoln may seem a bit sparse at the moment, but if a report is to be believed, new products are on the way. TheDetroitBureau.com spoke with sources at Lincoln and Ford, who claimed the American premium brand is working on, perhaps more than one, rear-wheel-drive vehicle.
Lincoln would likely platform-share with the next-generation Ford Mustang to develop those RWD offerings in the early going. Moving forward, the report indicates that Lincoln could take the lead on other rear-drive projects in the future. As the RWD architecture continues to take shape, "most or all" of the front-wheel-drive portfolio will also be offered with all-wheel drive as an option, ala Audi.
But wait, there's more! The report also suggests that a replacement for the full-size MKS is on the way, as well as a new Navigator and a luxury crossover based on the current Ford Escape.

All the details on Plug In 2014 electric vehicle conference you could ever want

Wed, Aug 6 2014

One of the best parts of the Plug In 2014 Conference in San Jose, CA last week was getting to listen in on thoughts about the state of the plug-in vehicle industry from people who have been involved with it for ages. They bristle when you call them the "Old Guard" (learned that one the hard way), but these are the people who have been through a number of ups and downs with plug-in vehicles, so they've got what we call perspective. Their knowledge was on full display in the three plenary sessions, which the Plug In Conference organizers have given us permission to share with you. Each is at least 90 minutes long, so make sure to set some time aside to enjoy the discussions after you download them (any help with making them streamable would be appreciated). Follow us below to see what we've got to offer. Opening Plenary (audio link). "The Road Ahead – Delivering on a Vision for Sustainable Transportation." Moderated by Mark Duvall (director of energy utilization at EPRI, the Electric Power Research Institute, and a long-time EV advocate), this panel featured: Jack Broadbent, Executive Officer / APCO, Bay Area Air Quality Management District Pat Romano, President & Chief Executive Officer, ChargePoint, Inc. Aaron Johnson, Senior Director, Customer Programs, Pacific Gas and Electric Company Brendan Jones, Director, EV Sales Operations & Infrastructure Deployment, Nissan North America, Inc. David W. Cash, Commissioner, MassDEP Dan Sperling, Director, Institute of Transportation Studies, University of California, Davis Highlights: Educating drivers to "get over the gas station" is a key strategy, how Level 2 and DC Fast Charging are really "a new paradigm," that there have been well over 214,000 EVs sold in US as of July 2014 and where Nissan sees huge potential for more EV sales (Northeast US and medium-size cities like St. Louis and Pittsburgh). Wednesday Morning Plenary (audio link). "Getting to the Mass Market – A Discussion of Ideas for Widespread PEV Adoption." Moderated by John Gartner, research director for smart transportation at Navigant Research.
