Up for auction today is a beautiful original 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 2 door Hardtop.  I have owned this car for a couple of years and it’s time to thin out my fleet (have 10 cars right now and I think the wife is going to divorce me soon if I don’t sell a few lol) so this car is going up for sale.  It took me years to find this car and I will miss it since I think it’s the best body style ever for the Fairlane.

Like I said I purchased the car a couple years ago out of Texas (I refuse to buy any cars from the north rust belt) and fell in love because it was an original car that has never been tinkered with.  I have the original sales receipt for the car, owner’s manual, Ownercard and several receipts for service done over the years.

The car was purchased new from Anderson Ford in Kingsport Tennessee on July 7, 1967 by Mr. Ralph Churchwell.  The car cost Mr. Churchwell $3030.30 and included optional 289 V8, Vinyl Trim, Select Shift Automatic Transmission, 735X14 White Sidewall tires, Power Steering, AM Radio and Full Wheel Covers.  Mr. Churchwell lived in Tennessee for many years and then moved to Texas (where I purchased the car) so the car has always been a southern car until I purchased it.  Since I purchased the car it has always been garaged and I think I have only driven it about 500 miles over the past few years.

The car is in very good condition and although it will not earn you first place at the Concours d’Elegance it will turn heads as you drive down the road and at local cruise nights.  I have received countless compliments on this car and many people can’t believe the condition of the underside of the car since these were so prone to rust.  This car is an original numbers matching car that has not been butchered like most of these old Fairlanes.

The body is in good shape and this car is laser straight down the sides.  I have seen many cars that claim to be straight and look like oceans with all the work they have had done to them.  This again is laser straight and from what I was told the car was repainted in the 80’s due to the old paint fading out.  Car was painted the same color, Wimbledon White, and today the paint still looks good and has a healthy shine to it.  Back after the car was repainted it was hit in the right rear quarter panel and the entire quarter panel was replaced.  The rear seam where the quarter meets the rocker panel must not have been treated properly and began to rust causing the bondo to bubble up.  The steel is rock solid but the evidence of the damage is there, not horrible but noticeable (see photo included).  The area around the rear window also has a couple of small bubbles evident again from I think was a proper prep job and the paint does have some minor checking on the right rear quarter from too much liquor possibly when the paint was mixed.  Don’t get me wrong this car is a true survivor and looks great but I want you to realize it does have deficiencies.  Both driver and passenger doors have some small rust bubbles at the corners of the doors and the driver side floor has a small amount of rust making it week (I removed the undercoating so you could see it better and again see photos).  The rest of this car is absolutely rust free and amazing for being a survivor.  Top of the inner fenders (has the stamp marks on the fender aprons and radiator support still) fender aprons, torque boxes, cross members etc. are all in perfect rust free condition.

The interior is in good condition with some wear on the driver seat and the top of the rear seat has started to break down (see photos).  The dash is in good shape and the dash pad along with the door panels are in good condition.

The car runs nice, smooth and quiet and does not leak any oil.  The transmission works well and if the car sits for a couple of weeks will leave a few drops of fluid on the ground.  If the car is cold and has been sitting awhile it will take about three to five seconds to engage in drive and after that she is good to go, if you drive it every couple of days or weekly it does not do this.  The A-arm bushings are worn and should be replaced, I purchased new A-arms complete with bushings and ball joints etc. last year but just have not had the time to install them.  The last thing I can think of is the shifter linkage is a bit loose for some reason and it makes the shifter sloppy.  I just use the emergency brake when I park the car to be on the safe side in case it was to disengage from park.  I have never had the car change gears or anything like that while driving but you should know that it does have some play in it.

The car had an aftermarket A/C system in it and I will include it with the sale of the car.  It has the compressor, underdash unit etc. and looks complete but I never installed it.  Like I said if you win the auction I will place it in the trunk for you along with the new A-arms and whatever other parts I may have collected over the years for it.

Well I really can’t think of anything else to mention about the car but I am sure I forgot something so feel free to email me your questions and I will respond as quick as I can. Remember that this car is almost 47 years old and not a new car, the car will be sold in AS-IS condition with no warranty either expressed or implied.  I encourage anyone to come out and view the car and if you wish to have someone look it over on your behalf I am more than happy to accommodate.

This car was previously sold to a bidder in Australia who backed out of the deal due to sudden medical problems with his son.  Just a FYI in case you were wondering.......

Wed, Sep 9 2015

Customers have spoken and automobile satisfaction is down in 2015. Autoblog's Chris McGraw reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] Customers have spoken and automobile satisfaction is down in 2015. I'm Chris McGraw and this is your Autoblog Minute. The American Customer Satisfaction Index or ACSI released its updated numbers and according to the survey, new car buyer satisfaction is down for the third straight year. According to an ACSI press release, customer satisfaction with new automobiles has fallen 3.7 percent, to 79 on its 100-point scale. The ACSI report is based on over 4,100 customer surveys collected in the second quarter of 2015 Sitting at the top of the industry in customer satisfaction is Toyota's Lexus brand with a score of 84. Which was good enough to dethrone Mercedes-Benz, which fell 3% to a score of 83. Of the Big Three, Ford was the only domestic automaker to maintain overall customer satisfaction with its score of 81. General Motors slipped 3% to 79 and Fiat Chrysler had a 5% drop, registering a score of 75 out the possible 100. What's driving this trend of customer dissatisfaction? ASCI points to the rise in recalls and car prices. Where do you land on customer satisfaction spectrum? Sound off in the comments with your thoughts on the current state of car ownership and brand quality. For Autoblog, I'm Chris McGraw. 2016 Ford Taurus to ride atop reworked Fusion platform

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

Generally, cars get bigger and heavier as they get older. That's why it looks so ridiculous when you park a classic Mini next to a modern version. The same can be said of the Corvette, the BMW 3 Series, Porsche 911 and, of course, the Ford Taurus. In the Taurus' case, though, that size has become a liability, particularly because the big brute isn't nearly as sizable on the inside as it is on the out.
For 2016, Ford is aiming to rectify that. According to Edmunds, the 2016 Taurus will ride on a stretched and widened Ford Fusion platform. Ford is expecting this move to go a long way in trimming the Taurus' ample body fat.
"The problem with today's Taurus is that it is overweight and even the high performance SHO is not really competitive," said a source that spoke to Edmunds on condition of anonymity. The 365-horsepower SHO variant, "actually weighs about as much as the stretched Audi A8 L. Of course, Audi uses an extensive amount of aluminum, but it is a much bigger car."

Ford Fiesta ST customs get wild at SEMA

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

The massive 57-car SEMA showcase by Ford ranges from obvious aftermarket-friendly models like the Mustang, to the not so obvious ones, like the Transit Connect and cute-as-an-explosive-button Fiesta ST. Ford plucked several Fiesta STs for SEMA duty, and we were on the show floor today to get a closer look at some of them.
First up is the striking COBB Tuning and Tanner Foust Racing Fiesta ST (above) finished in a black-and-gray digital camouflage, much like that used in the military, and is meant to raise awareness for the Pat Tillman Foundation. COBB also fitted a three-inch exhaust and a cold-air intake. A new shift knob, carbon-fiber hood and a Kicker stereo round out the mix of upgrades.
MRT got its hands on a Fiesta ST and created a car inspired by Forza Motorsport 5 (below, left). Featuring a two-tone paint job and more performance upgrades than you can shake a stick at, this Fiesta ST is one of the cooler compacts at Ford's stand. A high-performance exhaust system, along with a complimentary COBB induction system, allows the ST to breathe better, while an H&R coil over suspension and Steeda brakes help it stop and turn better than stock.
