1967 Ford Fairlane 500 on 2040-cars
Anderson, Indiana, United States
1967 Ford Fairlane 500. This is a very nice, solid vehicle. It has been modified from original. I am the 3rd owner. The first 2 owners both owned the vehicle over 20 years each. Those first 2 titles go with the car. Title states miles are original. Car has been driven sparingly and stored properly. This is a very straight car and the undercarriage is in great original condition. Nice paint. The glass, chrome, moldings and emblems are all in very good condition. Windows crank freely, vent windows work properly. Gauges, heater, horn work properly, AM radio does not work, it is not hooked up and I haven't messed with it. 390 4bbl engine runs well. Previous owner said it had around 5k miles on it. Newer Holley carb with electric choke, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, mild cam and Hooker Competition headers. Underneath the hood has the previous owners personal touches as he used the car for shows. Toploader 4 speed transmission with new Hurst shifter. Rebuilt 9in rear with Trac Loc and new 3.25 gears. Front brakes have been upgraded to disc. 15in. American Racing wheels with low mile Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires that have the Indianapolis motor speedway emblems. Nice dual exhaust with not to loud of mufflers; capped lake pipes were added for a nostalgia drag look. These can be uncapped with 3 bolts, but do make a lot of noise. An nice clean older style traction bar was installed. Some of these subtle additions make for an older unique drag racer look. Interior is very nice from a new headliner down to carpet. Car runs and drives very good, 390 runs good does not overheat, steering wheel is straight , front end is solid and tracks straight and proper. This is a nice driving car that drives comfortably out on the open road. It has been well cared for and maintained properly through the years. Call 765-610-7354 with any questions. Weekly Recap: Hackers demonstrate auto industry's vulnerability
Sat, Jul 25 2015There's always been a certain risk associated with driving, and this week cyber security came into focus as the latest danger zone when researchers demonstrated how easily they could hack into a 2014 Jeep Cherokee from across the country. The incident raised concerns over the vulnerability of today's cars, many of which double as smartphones and hot spots. During the now-infamous experiment, Chris Valasek and Charlie Miller infiltrated the Jeep's cellular connection and were able to control the infotainment system, brakes, and other functions. The hackers told the Jeep's maker, FCA US, of their findings last year, the company devised a software fix. Though Valesek and Miller hacked a Cherokee (like the one shown above), several FCA products, including recent versions of the Ram, Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, and Viper were also affected, illustrating potentially wide exposure that could reverberate across the sector. "For the auto industry, this is a very important event and shows that cyber-security protection is needed even sooner than previously planned," Egil Juliussen, senior analyst and research director for IHS Automotive, wrote in a research note. "Five years ago, the auto industry did not consider cyber security as a near-term problem. This view has changed." Hours after the Cherokee hacking incident was publicized on Tuesday, Sens. Ed Markey (D-Mass) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) introduced legislation to direct the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Trade Commission to establish national standards for automotive cyber security. The bill also would require vehicles to have a cyber-rating system to alert consumers how well their cars' privacy and security are defended. "Drivers shouldn't have to choose between being connected and being protected," Markey said in a statement. "We need clear rules of the road that protect cars from hackers and American families from data trackers." Though FCA and its Jeep Cherokee were in the spotlight this time, they were just the latest to showcase how automotive technology has advanced faster than safety and regulatory measures. IHS forecasts 82.5 million cars will be connected to the internet by 2022, which is more than three times today's level. "Cyber-security will become a major challenge for the auto industry and solutions are long overdue," Juliussen said.
Ford Edge Concept previews new look, can park itself remotely
Wed, 20 Nov 2013It turns out the image we saw back in February did, in fact, reveal the next-generation Ford Edge - at least in concept form. We still have to wait to see what the design will look like in production guise, but until then, Ford is giving us a good idea thanks to the Edge Concept being introduced at the LA Auto Show.
The new styling is an evolution of the current crossover's face with narrow headlights and a prominently slatted grille, while the rest of the design adds a more dynamic appearance with interesting body creases and horizontal taillights. We haven't gotten a look inside the Edge Concept just yet, but Ford is promising a suite of advanced driver-assist technologies including a new self-park system that allows activation from inside or outside the vehicle along with obstacle avoidance and an adaptive electric power steering system.
Ford will continue to offer an EcoBoost engine option in the upcoming Edge, and it will get active grille shutters to help maximize fuel efficiency. No word yet on when we'll be seeing the next-gen Edge in production form, but as we reported recently, it will become a global model in markets including Europe, China and South America. Ford's press release is posted below, but we'll have more information and images up later today.
Ford acquires Livio to bolster connectivity biz
Thu, 26 Sep 2013Ford Motor Company has announced the acquisition of Livio, a Ferndale, MI-based software development company best known for aftermarket in-car connectivity devices, but also as a supplier of technology for proprietary systems for automakers. Livio, co-founded by Sigal and Massimo Baldini, will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Global Technologies.
"With the additional expertise Livio provides us, Ford intends to continue to lead the next generation of in-car connectivity with technology advancements that give consumers more options to access their devices on the go," said Paul Mascarenas, chief technical officer and vice president, Ford Research and Innovation, in a statement.
Ford is clearly trying to beef up its in-house tech capability around telematics and device connectivity. While the Blue Oval has been a leader in these areas with SYNC and MyFord Touch in terms of getting the systems into as many cars as possible, the execution of the applications have been criticized for glitches.
