1966 Ford Fairlane 2 Door Post Base 3.3l on 2040-cars
Thomasville, North Carolina, United States
This is an amazing find.A lady in Greensboro, N.C. bought this car new at Friendly Ford in Greensboro. She drove it keeping it in a garage until 1985.She stopped driving it in 1985.I don t know why.The 85 N.C. inspection sticker is still on the windshield and the 1975 N.C.license plate with 1985 sticker is in the trunk. The car was still in the garage when I bought it from her niece who had inherited it. but the roof was leaking causing some surface rust on the top and drivers side fender and door see pictures. The car is in really good shape for nearly 50 years old.The interior is pretty nice .The door panels are in good shape as is the back seat. The seat belts in the back are from sears and roebuck the ones in the front are original. The cloth part of the front seat is torn but the vinyl is in good shape. The headliner has 2 small mice holes in it about the size of a pencil eraser and the dash pad is cracked. The floor mat is in good shape no cracks or tears. The body has very little rust there is some in both quarters at the back of the wheel opening probably a rats nest.I tried to lift the trunk mat but it was stuck and I didn t want to tear it.We bent the drivers door and edge of the quarter unloading it off the trailer. The bumpers need re-chroming.The trim looks good but I hadn t tried to clean it up.The jack ,jack handle and spare tire and hold down stuff is still in the trunk. The paint inside the trunk and lid is in good shape as are the jacking instructions. The owners manual and good driver manual owner card and N.C. inspection receipts back til 1967 are in the dash pocket. The engine is seized but it is all there and I assume it needs some brake work. .You could get the engine running paint the exterior repair the front seat put a dash pad on it probably put some tires on it they hold air but they have been on there since 1985 I know and have a beautiful driver or completely restore it and have a show car or put a big block or roller motor in it and have a real sleeper. There are some receipts in the dash for oil changes tires and exhaust work. The speedometer has a little over 78000 miles not exactly sure I ll go look if someone really wants to know the car is about 20 miles from here .The 1984 inspection receipt has 75654 miles on it .I probably have left something out but I ve talked enough.I just think this an amazing find.I have title in hand. The car is in Denton,N.C. about the center of the state. The car will roll and the tires are inflated and I will help load it Please look at pictures and ask questions. Thanks for looking. Americans will get a four-cylinder Ford Mustang after all? [w/poll]
Sat, 09 Mar 2013Ask and you shall receive. Remember that previous report suggesting that the 2015 Ford Mustang getting a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, and that it would be sold in Europe only and not the United States? Well, according to Road & Track, the rumor is only partially true - The Mustang will get the engine, but it is indeed coming to America.
Additionally, according to RT, the 3.7-liter V6 will continue to serve as the base engine, and since it offers up a stout 305 horsepower in its current form, it's likely that the 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost will produce a bit more than that. At the top of the range, the Mustang GT will continue to soldier on with a V8 engine, which should continue to send over 400 horsepower to the rear wheels.
Finally, while we agree 100 percent with RT's heartfelt request for a paddle-shift automatic, we certainly expect that the EcoBoost 'Stang will be offered with a manual transmission as standard equipment. This is a Mustang, after all...
Ford's Explorer-based Police Interceptor to get 365-hp EcoBoost option
Tue, 20 Aug 2013Speeders beware, the police are going to be getting quite a bit faster. Ford has just announced that it will be offering its 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged, EcoBoost V6 in the Explorer Police Interceptor. The new engine will be joining the existing 3.7-liter V6. The 365-horsepower, 350-pound-foot mill should be familiar to consumers as the powerplant that's found in the Ford Taurus SHO (and its LEO equivalent, the Taurus Police Interceptor) and the Ford Explorer Sport. It should also provide quite a kick in the pants to officers used to the naturally aspirated 3.7 and its 304 ponies and 279 pound-feet of torque.
The move to the more potent powerplant was born out of all the equipment officers need to carry on a day-to-day basis. These days, there's so much stuff that police need on a regular basis, that there's a genuine market for a faster Police Interceptor Utility, as it's known officially. The Explorer-based cruiser has already accounted for 68 percent of Ford's LEO sales in 2013, and that's with just the 3.7, and we'd only expect that number to increase once the twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V6 is available. Ford won't offer up any indication of what the take rate will be on the new engine, but we're guessing it'll be fairly high.
The success of the Explorer PI couldn't have come at a better time for Ford. The decision to end Crown Victoria production was not a popular one with police, and combined with Chevrolet and Dodge diving into the LEO market feet first, Ford hasn't been performing as well as it's wanted to. The Explorer has been helping it turn around, though. And with the inclusion of the EcoBoost, Ford also has a legit competitor for the Chevrolet Tahoe on the big utility side of the police market.
Ford recalls 382k vehicles across six campaigns
Wed, Sep 30 2015Ford needs to repair a total of 381,633 vehicles in North America across six newly announced campaigns, including five safety recalls and one compliance recall. By far the largest of these campaigns covers the 342,271 examples of the 1998-2003 Windstar to double check an earlier recall repair. Among these, 283,413 are in the US and 58,858 are in Canada. The combination of corrosion and stress can cause cracks in the rear axle and eventually lead to the part to snap completely. The company reports a small number of accidents might be connected to this, but there are no injuries. The minivans were recalled for this issue back in 2010, and it was investigated by NHTSA. According to Ford's latest announcement, the reinforcement brackets on some of these models might not have been installed correctly. This time, dealers will perform an inspection. Minivans with incorrectly installed brackets will get a new rear axle. The rest of the owners will be offered a deal to replace the part at a reduced cost. The next largest campaign covers 36,857 examples of the 2015 F-150 to fix a problem with the adaptive cruise control. Specifically, there are 33,481 affected trucks in the US, and 3,376 in Canada. According to Ford, "when passing a large, highly reflective truck" the radar in the system can misidentify a semi as being in the same lane as the pickup. The collision warning system would then activate, slowing the F-150. There's one report of an accident with this happening but no injuries. The fix is simply an update to the adaptive cruise control module software. Ford also has a recall for 1,477 examples of its 2016 F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis models, and they're all located in the US. A manufacturing issue might allow the trucks to shift into reverse without the driver first applying the brakes. There are no reports of any accidents from this, though. To repair the problem, the models get a new transmission shift control bracket and an adjustment to the shift cable. The Blue Oval's safety compliance recall covers 708 examples of the 2016 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, including 658 of them in the US, 28 in Canada, and 22 in Mexico. On these models, a manufacturing problem with the fuel tank could allow it to crack in a crash, which isn't allowed under federal rules. There are no reports of accidents, injuries or fires. The fix will be a new fuel tank for all of them. The company is also repairing 251 units of the 2015 Taurus and Lincoln MKS, plus the 2016 Explorer.
