1966 Fairlane 500 Hardtop Built 390 9" 370 Posi Built C6 Tci Stall Old Race Car on 2040-cars
Clinton, Missouri, United States
There will be a lucky buyer out there today because I unfortunately have too many projects and sadly this hopped up little fairlane will have to go bye bye. But somebody will be getting a great start to a super cool car!
Car has a pretty radical 390 in it. We got the car the way you see it. Very solid car compared to most of the fairlane projects you see out there. Previous owner put a lot of money in this car. Motor was supposedly rebuilt. Definitely has a really hot cam in it and a $600 set of super comp ceramacoated big tube headers and a nice 650 holley double pumper. TCI stall converter and built C6 with a posi 370 nine inch rearend. Car sounds really healthy but the shifter is currently not installed in the car but does come with it. We had a gas can under the hood rather than run the gas through the original gas tank just to start it when we bought it. Sounds MEAN!!!! We have never actually driven the car. Car is really solid in the floor and torque box areas. There is two spots on the rear frame on each side under the shackle that could easily be fixed. Couple small spots in trunk at both sides above the frame in trunk pan area, flat metal area and an easy fix as well. Car has solid rockers and solid fenders, trunk, and hood! The car will need a set of outer wheel houses and quarter skins because they cut out the wheel well to race the car for bigger tire clearance!
Car would make a really cool project for someone. We are keeping the front and rear rims from the car so it will be supplied with the Keystone Mags with the drag slicks that was on the car in the 70's and 80's when it was raced. The front rims will be rollers for transport purposes only |

Ford making Fusion production moves to challenge Camry on volume
Mon, 26 Aug 2013The Ford Fusion may already beat the Toyota Camry in terms of models offered, transaction price and sales increase so far this year, but if the Fusion wants to make a run at the title of best-selling car in the US, Bloomberg reminds us that volume is key. Opening a second production line at the Flat Rock, MI assembly plant will reportedly allow Ford to produce around 350,000 Fusions annually, which compares Toyota's ability to crank out 475,000 Camrys and Honda's capacity to build around 450,000 Accords.
For the Fusion, that's an extra 100,000 units compared to the car's current pace, and the article adds that the Fusion is "Ford's best shot" to regain the passenger car sales crown - a title it (or any other US automaker, for that matter) hasn't held since the mid-1990s. Despite hiccups with recalls and fuel economy numbers, the Ford Fusion is still red hot when it comes to sales. Fusion sales are up 13 percent so far this year (compared to a 0.6 percent decrease for Camry), and its average transaction price of $26,343 is about $2,300 more than its rival from Toyota.
The Fusion's popularity has helped Ford improve its sales in California; the Dearborn-based automaker has a market share of 18 percent in the state, which is just a fraction of a percentage behind Honda. And this popularity should continue as Ford ups Fusion production and expands the model lineup even further for 2014 with a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine soon to become an option.
Expert: 54.5 mpg CAFE standard can be reached without many plug-ins
Sat, Jan 18 2014Johnson Controls executive Brian Kesseler isn't likely to get any holiday presents this year from Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn or Tesla Motors head Elon Musk, but lots of other folks might be happy with what he has to say about automakers' efforts to reach stricter fleetwide fuel-economy standards. Speaking at the Automotive News World Congress, Kesseler said automakers wouldn't need to sell an extensive number of plug-in vehicles in order to meet the 54.5 mile per gallon Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard the US government set in 2012 for 2025 model-year vehicles. In fact, he said, components such as stop-start engine technology, turbochargers and direct injection may actually do the trick. Already, things like smaller engine sizes and lighter cars are already playing major roles in spurring fuel-efficiency gains. Of course, Johnson Controls sells batteries specially built for stop-start systems, so Kesseler does have a bit of skin in this game. The 54.5-mpg CAFE standard equates to about a 40-mpg "real world" fuel-efficiency level. To put that into perspective, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said in a report late last year that model-year 2013 average fuel economy was an even 24 mpg. That was up from 23.6 mpg for the 2012 model year and 22.4 mpg for 2011. Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes
Mon, 18 Jul 2011Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.
