We just acquired this outstanding car from a long term owner who cared for this car very well all thru his ownership. A total rock solid, never rusted example of the seldom seen Fairlane 500 in the sedan body style. Well documented having been sold new at Valley Ford Sales in Florissant Missouri. The car went to Alabama early in its life and was never exposed to any winter weather evidenced by its outstanding rust-free condition. This '65 Fairlane retains its complete original matching number drivetrain from the 289 V-8 to the Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission and Ford 9" rear-end. The previous owner sought out the correct parts to upgrade the original 'C' Code 289 to the factory HI-PO offering of 1965. Good effort and money was spent to secure correct componentry and the work produced a very strong performing powertrain that is reliable and fun to drive. All of the mechanicals have been refreshed over the years and this car runs and drives absolutely perfect and has no needed drivability issues whatsoever. The car is simply fast, reliable, safe and just fun to drive.

The body integrity of this car is excellent with good panel fit, no visible previous collision or rust repair and a very good overall repaint in the original color of Wimbeldon White. Front and rear bumpers have been re-chromed and all stainless and anodized bright trim is very nice. All window glass nearly perfect. The trunk compartment is mint, refinished in the correct Ford Spatter paint. Spare tire, jack and tools are in place.

The interior of the Fairlane is near mint, a combination of excellent original pieces and some redone. The steering wheel was sent out for restoration is flawless. The rare no-radio dash bezel is properly in place. Gauges, switches and clamps all operate correctly as does the heater and defroster.

You will see in our photos that the engine compartment is done to a high level of detail. The underside of this car is excellent with original untampered with floor and trunk pan. A complete correct new dual exhaust system was fitted at the time of the engine upgrade. A previous owner fitted power steering which make this car much more pleasurable to drive.

All 5 wheels are correct to the car and the proper replacement size radial tires are like new. The car comes with both the small dog dish hubcaps as pictured and a second set of correct mint full wheel covers if that is your preference.

Great documentation is included with the car including the Ford Motor Company paperwork confirming the cars build dates, options, equipment and colors. All of this matches the original DSO Tag in the left door jamb. Also included is the original owners embossed Ident-A-Card, the original owners manual, the HI-PO supplement manual, 1965 Ford Full Line and Fairlane showroom brochures, a 1965 Ford Performance Equipment brochure and much more. Its all there.

A 1965 Fairlane in this unmolested condition is seldom seen and building this car today would be very cost prohibitive. We have shown many good pictures of this to give you a good idea of how nice it really is but feel free to come and inspect it if you choose. You will not be disappointed, it is one little honey of a car.

Junkyard Gem: 1993 Mercury Topaz GS Sedan

Sat, Aug 13 2022

As long as the Mercury brand existed — a period spanning the 1939 through 2011 model years — nearly every Mercury sold in the United States was more or less a redecorated Ford model. The Torino had its Montego sibling, the Crown Victoria had the Grand Marquis, the Cougar was based on everything from the Mustang to the Mondeo, and so on. Naturally, when the folks in Dearborn developed the Ford Tempo compact, a Mercury version had to be created. This was the Topaz, with the official launch of both cars taking place on the deck of the aircraft carrier often referred to as the USS Decrepit. You can't make this stuff up! The Tempo/Topaz, also known as the Tempaz, has largely faded from our collective automotive memory by now, since it broke no significant new engineering or styling ground (this story would be much different if Ford had only put the amazing straight-eight "T-Drive" Tempaz powertrain into production) and didn't have any endearing features other than being a cheap domestic competitor to the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra. Still, close to 3 million Tempazes left North American Ford and Lincoln-Mercury showrooms during the 1984-1994 period. As you'd expect, most of these disposable cars disappeared from both the street and the car graveyard long ago. It takes a very special Tempaz for me to break out my camera while I'm patrolling my local wrecking yards; generally, this means an ultra-rare all-wheel-drive version or at least a very early model in super-clean condition. Today's Junkyard Gem is neither, but I took one look at this spectacular Bordello Red crypto-velour-and-slippery-plastic interior and recognized that this was no ordinary junkyard Mercury. It appears that Mercury had dropped the idea of clever names for base-grade seat fabrics by the time of the Topaz, referring to this stuff as just "cloth" in all the brochures I could find. That's too bad, because Mercurys had cool names for upholstery (e.g., Chromatex) in the old days. The interior is in very good condition but the steering wheel shows substantial wear, so I think this is a high-mile Topaz that got meticulous care from its owner or owners. Ford used five-digit odometers on these cars until the end of production, however, so we'll never know if this reading indicates 65,404 miles or 365,404 miles. The body is very straight, but there's some nasty corrosion behind the right front wheelwell.

Ford tops mid-year ranking of brands in the US

Thu, 18 Jul 2013

YouGov's mid-year Brand Index rankings of America's best perceived brands has been released, and Ford has found its way to the top. The Dearborn, Michigan based manufacturer beat out online shopping giant Amazon, The History Channel, and home improvement superstore Lowe's, to take the top spot.
Ford jumped from sixth overall in 2012 to first for 2013, but those that have been watching these rankings shouldn't be hugely surprised. Ford was rated the best perceived automotive manufacturer by the same organization last year. The Blue Oval's success on the overall brand rankings is made all the more impressive by the complete lack of other automakers on the list.
YouGov (that is, survey respondents) cited Ford's first quarter of 2013 business, which saw an increase in market share and the best earnings recorded in over 10 years. Successfully launching the Focus and Fusion (pictured) and keeping them fresh in the minds of consumers has also contributed to Ford's best overall score.

Ford launches pair of recalls affecting fullsize sedans and Transit Connect van

Wed, Jan 28 2015

Ford has announced a pair of pretty significant recalls affecting the 2010-2013 Ford Taurus and Police Interceptor, as well as their platform-mate, the Lincoln MKS. A separate recall covers the 2014 Transit Connect. The fullsize sedans include 205,000 vehicles built at Chicago Assembly over a variety of timeframes, ranging between December 1, 2009 and November 30, 2012. The vehicles, 194,889 of which were sold in the United States, have an issue with the spring controls on the interior door handles that could cause the door to open in a side-impact crash. The Transit Connect recall, meanwhile, includes 16,100 vans built between November 6, 2013 and September 20,2014 at the company's Valencia, Spain factory. In these vehicles, the seatbelt fasteners may not have been tightened properly, which could cause them to loosen over time, a condition that's obviously bad news in the event of a crash. Ford says it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or crashes in either recall. Owners will, of course, be notified and asked to report in for inspections and if necessary, free replacements. Scroll down for the full press release from Ford, which includes the complete breakdown of dates during which the affected sedans were built in Chicago. JAN 28, 2015 | DEARBORN, MICH. FORD ISSUES TWO SAFETY RECALLS Ford is issuing two safety recalls. No accidents or injuries are attributed to either of these conditions. Details are as follows: Ford issues safety recall for certain 2010-2013 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Ford Police Interceptor sedans for interior door handle issue Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 205,000 2010-2013 Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Ford Police Interceptor sedans due to an issue with the spring that controls the interior door handles. If the spring is unseated, the door may become unlatched in a side-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury. Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition. Affected vehicles include certain 2010-2013 Ford Taurus vehicles built Dec. 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010 and Feb. 1, 2011 to Nov. 30, 2012 at Chicago Assembly Plant; certain 2010-2013 Lincoln MKS vehicles built June 2, 2011 to Oct. 31, 2011 at Chicago Assembly Plant; and certain 2010-2013 Ford Police Interceptor sedans built Dec. 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010 and Feb. 1, 2011 to Nov. 30, 2012 at Chicago Assembly Plant.
