You are bidding on a 1959 Ford Fairlane Galaxie 500 Skyliner Retractable. This was truly a “garage” find – which is just how I like to find them. An elderly gentleman passed on and willed the car to his son, who had no interest in keeping her.
The car sat idle, in a heated garage for decades. 25 years to be exact. Before
being put into “storage” the father attempted a restoration. He painted the car
– and, as you might guess, not professionally. There is orange peel in the
paint, but – can be an excellent driver. She won’t win Pebble Beach but is sure
to wow them at every local drive in car show. The top works exactly as Ford intended and is shown in operation in the attached video link. It is truly a thrill to see the top go up or down. The trunk compartment, by the way, is in great condition and original. Incidentally, the Retractable also has the optional Thunderbird engine, which makes this car more rare.
The car is rust free and runs very well. We have recently replaced the starter
and re-cored the radiator, which was leaking.
The interior is good – better than average but wears seat covers, which wasn’t
uncommon for the day. We have not removed them – so assume that new covers may
be needed if you don’t like the covers that are on there now. Values on these Retractables are climbing. A restored version can bring $60 to $70,000 – and I believe that it won’t be long until they eclipse $100,000. The market is very bullish on this rare car. And the color is just perfect. The chrome is in restored condition – meaning it was restored 25 years ago – but stored correctly – and, although not perfect, is still very presentable. I might also mention that I’m not asking $60,000 for the car either – in fact, far less. Let the market decide what a rare, original, low mileage Retractable is worth. She is not new – nor is she a show car. The hubcaps are original and in good shape. The stainless fender skirts DO come with the car also – but I preferred the car without them on. Regardless, they are included. The windows all work as does the radio. The passenger side window has a crack in it – but an entirely new window kit (all four) is available on Ebay for less than $500. She has a very throaty V8 rumble – and gets constant comments. I have to finish my 1960 Electra 225 Convertible restoration, so this beauty needs to go. This car is sold – as is – where is – inspections are
encouraged and requests for additional pictures are always accommodated. There
is no warranty implied and no guarantees made. We will certainly honor
independent inspection services at your expense. We will assist in worldwide shipping. The car can stay in enclosed storage for up to 30 days at no expense. She has a clean and clear title and is stored comfortably inside. Here is the link to the Youtube video showing the top in operation. It seems to jerk - but that is only because my nephew was stopping and starting the operation to test the new switch. The top operates very smoothly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?Thank you for looking. |

Ford and GM link bonus checks to quality scores
Tue, 29 Apr 2014The poor first quarter earnings of Ford and General Motors are having an effect all the way up the food chain. Both automakers struggled with recalls in the first three months of the year, and, according to The Detroit News, they have responded by increasing the percentage of bonuses tied to vehicle quality for salaried workers, including top executives.
GM announced that 25 percent of bonuses (up from 10 percent) for all salaried workers would be tied to its vehicle quality standards. The automaker revealed in its financial report that it spent $1.3 billion on recall-related repairs in the first quarter, and net income was down 86 percent.
Ford also increased the quality proportion of bonuses for about 26,000 salaried workers all the way up to CEO Alan Mulally from 10 percent to 20 percent. The company announced in its report that the amount paid out in warranty and recall claims was about $400 million higher than expected in the first quarter. Its net income fell 39 percent from the previous year. "The change reflects how critical quality is to our overall business," said spokesperson Todd Nissen speaking to Autoblog.

Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell revisit bitter F1 rivalry in... Ford Fusion campaign?
Wed, 23 Jan 2013Formula One World Champions Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell haven't been on good terms since the 1986 season, when Piquet joined Mansell at the Williams team and Piquet spent the year privately fuming about not being granted the status of number one driver. Things only got worse from there - even though Piquet won the title the following year with Williams, still partnered with Mansell, the fuming was a lot less private.
They're back together after a 25-year silence, in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil to drive the new Ford Fusion. Called "Fusion Grand Prix," both men get the new Ford sedan, prepped to their liking - but still street legal, we assume - for a race to decide... well, who is faster behind the wheel of a Fusion.
There will be four episodes, with the first two having already aired. The third episode comes on January 29 and the race happens February 5. You'll find two video episodes and a press release below, but note - because it's a campaign for Ford Brazil, Piquet's dialogue in the vids isn't translated, so hit the Closed Captioning button to hear his side of the smack talking.
