I have for sale my 2003 Ford F-350 XLT 7.3L Powerstroke 4X4 Crew Cab Short Bed pick up. She has 141,275 miles on her and runs pretty strong.  As you can see from the pictures it has been extensively, but tastefully, modified. For the suspension, we have a Full Traction coilover conversion with Fox coilovers up front and a Kelderman 4-link airbag conversion in the rear, giving a lift of 8" to clear the 37"x12.50" BFGoodrich All-terrain tires. The tires are mounted on 17"x 10" Axis Regulator wheels powder coated black. This is a one of a kind suspension that gives the nicest ride that you can get in a lifted solid axle truck like this. The ride height is adjustable via air for the rear and the front coilovers can be adjusted with a spanner wrench.

Under the hood, we have about every bolt-on that you can imagine and then some; a Garrett GTP38R Ball bearing turbo, 1.15 non-wastegate turbine housing, Spearco intercooler, Afe Bladderunner intake manifold, AFe stage II PG7 intake and a 4" MPRB straight pipe exhaust painted black. What you can't immediately see under the hood is the bullet-proof BTS transmission and Swamps 175/146 single shot injectors. While these injectors allow for a little more punch, they are also designed to be very fuel efficient. I have never dynoed it, but I estimate this truck should be at about 375-400 hp. I have taken it down the 1/4 mile though and my best time was 15.0 @ 87mph; not bad for a 9000+ lb truck with stock gearing on 37" tires!

Also included with the truck is a complete air system that I had not gotten around to installing on to the truck. I have been manually adjusting the airbags in the meantime. The components included are a Vair air compressor, air tank, Accuair two-way air control system and a Hornblasters 4-tone train horn kit. I also will include an F650 dash panel for a switch panel to control all the air systems. I have many other aftermarket items as well, that make more sense to sell off separately, but I'll give you first crack at them if you are serious about the truck.

I'm selling this truck because I have taken on more projects than I can deal with and I just don't really drive it as much anymore. I don't really need a big diesel truck since I no longer have anything to tow. I want this truck to go to a good home and to someone who will carry on my project of creating the ultimate truck.

I have invested close to $30k in aftermarket stuff over the 7 years I have owned her. I feel that I have made some good decisions on this build, so I think I should be able to recoup some of the value that I have invested in it. If you know your Powerstroke trucks, you know this is a great price for an awesome truck with a ton of extras.

There is one area of damage that I should mention, which is also shown in the pictures. I had tread separate from a tire from my last set of wheels and it smacked the lower rear part of the passenger rear wheel well. It kind of folded the part of the metal up under the bed. It's not really that noticeable and I personally didn't mind it enough to do anything about it. I always though it I'd fix it one day though...

Also, it has been involved in one minor accident where the only damage to the truck was a scuff on the front bumper. I fixed it by painting it to match the body color of the truck. Problem solved.

Anyways, if you are interested in my truck or have any questions, please contact me in whichever way you feel most comfortable with. Thanks for looking!

Tier 1 suppliers call GM the worst OEM to work with

Mon, 12 May 2014

Among automakers with a big US presence, General Motors is the worst to work for, according to a new survey from Tier 1 automotive suppliers, conducted by Planning Perspectives, Inc.
The Detroit-based manufacturer, which has been under fire following the ignition switch recall and its accompanying scandal, finished behind six other automakers with big US manufacturing operations. Suppliers had issues with trust and communications, as well as intellectual property protection. GM was also the least likely to allow suppliers to raise their prices in the face of unexpected increases in material cost, all of which contributed to 55 percent of suppliers saying their relationship with GM was "poor to very poor."
GM's cross-town competitors didn't fare much better. Chrysler finished in fifth place, ahead of GM and behind Dearborn-based Ford, which was passed for third place this year by Nissan. Toyota took the top marks, while Honda captured second place.

Ford director says company has big efficiency plans, but no dedicated EV

Wed, Mar 12 2014

The annual autofest known as the North American International Auto Show previews a plethora of exciting new products that we'll see and drive later in the year, from tiny urban commuters to family sedans and crossovers to hard-working big pickups and SUVs. It's also a once-a-year cornucopia of auto executives and leaders from around the world. "There will be some really fun stuff that you'll hear about in the future" - Ford's Kevin Layden So, in-between dozens of cool new-product unveilings on rotating stages during the two press days preceding the public show, we auto scribes grab what planned and impromptu interviews we can. Sessions with top industry leaders can be hard to get, but I was able to score a seat in a group session with then-General Motors North America president (now executive VP of global product development) Mark Reuss, and I also managed brief one-on-ones with a trio of vehicle electrification leaders, one each from Ford, BMW and GM, and what they said then remains relevant now. First up is Kevin Layden, Ford's Director of Electrified Powertrain Engineering. ABG: Where will Ford go beyond its current Focus EV and hybrids, and will there be a Ford EV and/or hybrid on its own energy-optimized platform one day. KL: We don't want to do a dedicated electric vehicle with all the development costs borne by a niche product. At the Michigan Assembly plant right now we're building the Focus electric, PHEV and EcoBoost on the same assembly line. Also the C-Max, with both a hybrid and an Energi plug-in, and we use that same power pack in the Fusion Hybrid and Energi. We want to be, "The power of choice" [a Ford marketing slogan], so having that choice for customers is very important. And if I want to sell the Fusion, Focus and C-Max globally, we can use these power packs wherever it makes sense. So as we go forward, you'll see us proliferating the power packs we have today. Then the question is, what do we do next? There will be some really fun stuff that you'll hear about in the future. ABG: Is the efficiency difference between a dedicated ultra-efficient vehicle platform and a shared multi-use platform getting smaller as all platforms get more efficient? KL: Exactly. Were going through aero studies now on wheels and tires and hood sealers on base vehicles. We have full aerodynamic wind tunnel studies going on with the base Focus and C-Max, so all of that [aerodynamic improvement] will be there for EVs.

2014 Ford Transit unveiled in Chassis Cab and Cutaway versions

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

As a leader in commercial vehicles here in the US, we knew Ford wouldn't take too long to show off the chassis cab and cutaway versions of its 2014 Ford Transit van. Set to go on sale this fall, Ford already revealed the full-body version of the Transit, and now it has pulled the cover off exposed-frame models just in time to to compete against the all-new Ram Promaster.
The term "chassis cab" refers to models with a fully enclosed cabin used for box vans or rental trucks, while cutaway models leave the cabin open behind the B-pillars for a pass-through on vehicles such as Class C motorhomes or ambulances. Both will offer three wheelbase options (138, 156 and 178 inches), the choice of single or dually rear axles, and plenty of upfitter-friendly touches including a pre-wired body harness and multiple body mount locations.
The new design will also help make upfitting a little easier since the fuel filler is now built into the cab (just behind the driver's door). Those integrated fuel filler necks will serve to feed either a 3.7-liter V6, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, or a 3.2-liter Power Stroke diesel. Transit chassis cab and cutaways will wear varying Gross vehicle weight ratings from 9,000 pounds to 10,360 pounds depending on spec.
