You are looking at a 2002 Ford F-150 XLT Extended Cab 5.4L Triton FX4 pick-up truck. There are not many trucks of the same year that are as nice as this one! I bought this truck from a close friend of the family, who took amazing care it. It has always been serviced and all regular maintenance performed at Astorg Ford of Parkersburg. (I will see about acquiring any/all service records) He purchased the truck new and I am the only the second owner. I would consider this a one owner vehicle since I've only owned it for about a month. I was going to keep it but as a full-time college student, it is simply not practical to drive to school and back. I will describe the truck to the best of my knowledge...

The truck has 132,215 miles, and it runs and drives like a dream. The wheels are 17" Ford OEM wheels, and the tires have very few miles on them. The body and paint is in excellent shape! There is a tiny ding on the tailgate (barely visible) and a couple small touch up spots on the tonneau cover. Other than that, you'll see typical bug and rock chips on the front end, but nothing out of the ordinary. The plastic grill is sun-faded but a quick spray will resolve that. The only other issue with the truck is the handle on the tailgate. I was not able to open the tailgate, because I believe the mechanism is off track or came loose. I will have that looked at and fixed if possible before the auction ends, but please make note of this in case I can't. It also has rain guards on the windows, as well as a bug guard on the front end. Also has Back Country chrome running boards....

The interior is as nice as the outside. It has grey cloth interior, Pioneer CD player, power windows/doors, cruise, cold AC, etc. (See above for included options). This truck has not been smoked in to my knowledge, and the condition will show just that. Everything works! There's some wear on the vinyl around the door handle, from resting arm on the door. Would be an inexpensive fix if you are that picky, but it does not take away from the overall condition of the truck. Both rear doors open up and there is a full bench seat in the back. Rear glass is fixed, not sliding. It has factory tint on the rear windows.

The engine, transmission, and 4-wheel drive work flawlessly. It runs and drives like a new truck! There have been no modifications done to engine whatsoever. Everything is OEM and as it would be from the factory showroom. I am having trouble thinking of anything else to mention, but I will add to this description as I think of things. Also, if you have any questions at all, or would like to view the truck, please just send me a message through eBay and we can go from there. Thank you for looking and happy bidding!!!!

Crowdsource funding push on to save historic Ford buildings

Thu, 22 Aug 2013

Detroit has no shortage of old, abandoned buildings, both within the city and in the surrounding communities. Few, though, have the historical significance of the old Ford Highland Park facility. Home to the very first moving assembly line, Highland Park was designed by the legendary Albert Kahn, and was one of the homes of the Model T.
Now, the Woodward Avenue Action Association is attempting to buy both the 40,000-square-foot admin building, which is located off the historic Woodward Avenue, and an 8,000-square-foot garage. The WAAA's goal is to convert the buildings into an automotive heritage center. The Detroit News spoke to the interim director of the WAAA, Deborah Schutt, who commented, "[Metro Detroit has] not been very good at telling our own story. So we've decided, let's pull everything together and tell our story."
The WAAA made an offer of $550,000 to buy the two buildings, and has $400,000 from the Michigan Department of Transportation and another $15,000 from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. It's trying to raise a further $125,000 through crowd-sourcing, starting a campaign called "Five Dollars A Day," after old Hank Ford's $5-per-day wage for line workers.

Rare Ford Mustang ASC McLaren is a piece of '80s history

Wed, Jun 1 2016

You can't blame the dealer for advertising this oddball convertible as a "Ford Mustang McLaren." The name certainly rolls off the tongue better than "Ford Mustang ASC McLaren," and it makes the car sound a whole lot more appealing. However, without the 'ASC' in there, you don't get the full picture. And when it comes to the world of strange automotive collaborations—particularly those of the 80s—you most definitely want the full picture. ASC McLaren Mustangs were the result of fortuitous timing, and a project that was already underway between the American Sunroof Company and McLaren (no, not that McLaren). Detroit custom car builder Peter Muscat brought the idea of a Mustang with a tonneau cover to ASC after chopping the top off a Fox body on his own, and in turn ASC founder Heinz Pretcher brought the concept to Ford. Big blue was already in the midst of relaunching a Mustang convertible, which had been absent from the lineup for 10 years, so initially it was the Mercury Capri that got the ASC/McLaren treatment. The result was a car that was more expensive than a Mustang GT, and coupled with declining sales of the Capri overall, the car was discontinued in 1986, paving the way for the ASC McLaren Mustang you see here on eBay. With the change over to the Mustang as their platform for modification in 1987, ASC McLaren were given the opportunity to create something notable. Customizing the Capri was one thing, but the Mustang name carries with it iconic status. So what did ASC McLaren do with their chance to leave their mark on automotive history? They gave the car some visual modifications, both inside and out, but like the Capri, left the powertrain untouched. Also like the Capri, the cars still ended up costing more than $20,000. Between the high price, the economic woes of the late 80s, and disputes between Muscat and Pretcher, the ASC McLaren Mustangs were no more by 1990. During the three year run, 1,806 ASC McLaren conversions were completed, making them quite rare, especially low mileage examples like this one. The 5.0 V8s are known for being stout engines, capable of handling serious modification, and logging lots of miles, so there are no concerns there. The 5-speed Borg-Warner transmission that came in all Mustang GTs is also known for being a durable unit, the '87-'90 versions especially so. The main concern here would be the life the car has lived, and more importantly where it has lived.

Ford finds flex-fuel engine design plays big role in emissions output

Mon, Jan 6 2014

How bad is ethanol for your engine? There's been a lot of debate on this issue as the US considers upping the biofuel content in the national gasoline supply from 10 percent (E10) to 15 percent (E15). The ethanol industry and some scientists say higher ethanol blends show no "meaningful differences" in new engines while the oil industry says ethanol creates health risks. Researchers working at the Ford Research and Innovation Center decided to take a closer look at how a wide range of gas-ethanol blends - E0, E10, E20, E30, E40, E55 and E80 - affected the emissions coming out of a flex-fuel 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. To see the full report, printed in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, requires payment, but there is an abstract and Green Car Congress has some more details. The gist is that, "with increasing ethanol content in the fuel, the tailpipe emissions of ethanol, acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, methane, and ammonia increased." At least NOx and NMHC emissions decreased. The researchers say that the effects are due to the fuel and "are expected for all FFVs," but that the way that a manufacturer calibrates the engine will affect NOx, THC, and NMOG emissions. It's this last bit that's important, since the researchers found, "Higher ethanol content in gasoline affects several fundamental fuel properties that can impact emissions. ... These changes can have positive or negative effects that can depend on engine design, hardware, and control strategy. In addition to direct emissions impacts, higher ethanol content fuel can also provide more efficient combustion and overall engine operation under part-load conditions and under knock-limited higher-load conditions." So, as we head towards more ethanol in our fuel supply (maybe), manufacturers are going to need to learn how to burn it most efficiently.
