2001 F-150 Svt Lightning! 12,033 Original Miles! Rare Collectors Chance! on 2040-cars
Charlotte, North Carolina, United States
*** 2001 Ford SVT Lightning 12,033 Original Miles *** Read First: I know this truck will have a lot of interest. I may choose not to answer some emails or questions as I'm only looking for a buyer that has the funds capable of purchasing this nearly flawless example. Please let me know of your intent or how serious you are. This is not an "eBay special" nor will it sell for "cheap", although it's less than a new 4-cylinder Toyota Camry I saw at the Toyota Dealer. :-) If you're hoping to get a lot off my asking price, you won't. i'm very easy to work with, though, and will help out with anything you need such as storing it for a longer period of time or working with your shipper. What: I have owned, played with, and collected unique and fun autos my entire life. This is my 4th SVT Lightning and by far the nicest example I've ever seen. I purchased my first Lightning back in 2003 and have loved them ever since! I owned one stock, one lightly modified, and one heavily modified that produced 730 horse power. This example is completely stock and always has been. Completely 100% original as it came off the showroom floor in 2001! Currently at only 12,033 original miles. You may not ever find one like this again. Rare chance at a nearly new SVT Lightning. This should be an amazing future investment (Barrett Jackson?). My struggle is not driving it, not modifying it, and keeping the miles off. It has never been raced or at a track. It should, however, attend a few "car shows". This truck has never been driven in the rain or the snow. This is a third "car" for us in addition to our other toys (PWC, Boat, Jeep...). We do not need to sell this and I've closed this auction template a few times after deciding not to part with it. Our plan was to keep it for years and keep the miles low as I know I cannot replace this. It will only appreciate in value. I'm not listing this for sale locally as I'd like to avoid tire kickers, and do not plan re-list this again if it doesn't sell during the auction. Includes: Original "Ford Special Vehicle Team" Certificate. Build #3407. Original Window Sticker Original Books/Manuals Both original keys and key fobs Original Ford Tonneau Cover (factory option on the Window Sticker) Original Ford Rubber Bed-Mat Unused Garage Door Opener/Velcro (shown in picture) Original Ford Stereo Tape Player with 6-Disc CD Changer (behind seat) Condition - Exterior: Excellent. As new. No dents, no scratches anywhere on the paint. Original paint, original panels, original VIN tags. The tires have no dry rot or issues. Tread depth looks like you'd expect with only 12,033 miles. I would guess all for around 30% worn with 70% tread left. I've taken a photo of a minor scratch on the top of the tailgate plastic. And one photo of a slight scratch on one rim. That's all I can find anywhere on the exterior. Otherwise picture a brand new Lightning. Even the underside of the truck looks new. Condition - Interior: Excellent. As new. Zero issues. Non smoker, no pets, no food, no smells, no wear on the suede/leather seats. Engine: Excellent condition. As new and as you'd expect with only 12,033 original miles. Shipping: We're in Charlotte North Carolina. I will help you and your Shipper if you're out of state. Or feel free to fly in to Charlotte and drive it home. Payment: A non refundable Paypal deposit of $500 is due IMMEDIATELY after you win the auction. No exceptions. Feedback: Note our near perfect, positive feedback for ~11 YEARS on eBay! |

NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall
Tue, Apr 7 2015The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.
Autoblog editors choose their favorite racecars of all time
Thu, Feb 26 2015If you like cars, there is a good chance that you like racecars. There's something about the science and the art of going faster, of competition, of achievement, that accelerates the hearts of enthusiasts. It doesn't matter the series, the team or the manufacturer – there's something about racing that stirs emotions and lifts spirits. It's that way with many of you, and it's that way with our editors. With that in mind, we offer a list of our favorite racecars of all time. Of course, we'd like to hear some of yours in the comment section below. 1970 Porsche 917 Compared to some of the obscure choices by my colleagues, I feel like the Porsche 917 is almost so obvious a pick as to not be worth mentioning. Still, when coming up with my answer, my mind invariably went back to this classic racer – specifically in its blue-and-orange Gulf livery – while watching Le Mans on DVD and later Blu Ray with my dad. Long, low and curvaceous, few vehicles have ever looked sexier lapping a track than the 917. More than just a pretty face, this beauty had speed, too, thanks to several tunes of flat-12 engines over the course of its racing life. In the early '70s, Porsche was a dominant force throughout sports-car competition, and the 917 (shown above at the 1970 24 Hours of Daytona) was the tip of that spear, including back-to-back victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Largely without dialogue or really much of a traditional plot, Le Mans is like a tone poem of racing goodness. While the 917's importance to motorsports history is undoubtedly fascinating, it's still this cinematic depiction of the Porsche racer that draws me in most, especially with the volume cranked. – Chris Bruce Associate Editor 1964 Mini Cooper S How could everyone not be selecting the 1964 Mini Cooper S piloted by Paddy Hopkirk and Henry Liddon? That car, 33 EJB, took the first of British Motor Corporation's four Monte Carlo Rally wins (it should have been five, but French judges got the British Minis [and Fords] disqualified on a technicality regarding headlights... which its own car, the winning DS, was also in violation of). The tiny red car and its white roof beat out Ford Falcons, Mercedes-Benz 300SEs and scores of Volvos, Volkswagens and Saabs. This, along with the several years of dominance that followed, cemented the idea that not only could the tiny, two-tone Mini be a real performance vehicle, but that family-friendly city cars in general could be fun.
Ford F-450 claims best-in-class towing, company abandons practice of removing items to boost payload number
Tue, 02 Sep 2014The ongoing heavy-duty truck battle between Ford and Ram is showing no signs of slowing down. The Blue Oval is trying to remove at least one point of contention between the two brands by testing its 2015 F-450 Super Duty using the Society of Automotive Engineers J2807 towing standard, which Ram also uses. In the new evaluation, the F-450 is rated at a max towing capacity of 31,200 pounds. That's an identical amount as under Ford's own, previous test.
"We leave no doubt with customers that the F-450 pickup truck has best-in-class towing of 31,200 pounds - whether tested using our own internal towing standards or SAE J2807," said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president for Global Product Development, in the company's release.
At the same time, Ford is also changing how it calculates the F-450's payload. Instead of using its minimum curb weight as before, the brand is now using the truck's base curb weight. The revision lowers the pickup's rating to 5,300 pounds, compared to 5,450 pounds previously. The company said in its announcement that the reason for this is "aligning its payload rating practices with other manufacturers to make it easier for customers to compare vehicles." General Motors made a similar switch for its pickups in August.
