You are bidding on a 1995 Ford F-150 four wheel drive pickup, equipped with a 5.0 liter engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. This truck has been in my family for about 10 years now. During that time, we only put about 21,000 miles on her, bringing the total to a bit under 121,000. We rarely drive it, and just don't have use for it anymore at this point in our lives. So, it's for sale.
The good points - the engine is mechanically sound, with even compression, no knocks or ticks, and good oil pressure. It sounds nice and tight, and runs very smooth. There is no smoke, and it doesn't burn any oil. Since I have owned it, it has been fed a diet of synthetic oil exclusively. The water pump was replaced a couple years ago, along with the timing chain, front cover gasket, and front oil seal. New idler pulley bearings were also installed at that time.
The transmission shifts perfectly, and has never had any issues at all. The fluid was changed when I bought the truck, and I haven't touched it since.
The 4WD engages as it should, in the high range. I never used low range, and the linkage is a bit rusty, so it won't go into low range. The buyer will need to clean and lube the linkage if low range is needed. I never used it in 10 years.
The front and rear differentials are tight, and make no noise at all. The suspension is in ok shape - there is a new right front spring mount, and the outer tie rods were replaced last year, along with new power steering hoses. The rear uses leaf springs, and they are in good shape.
The body is in pretty good condition, with the exception of some rust at the top of each rear quarter panels, in the fenderwells, as seen in the pics. The rest of the body is surprisingly sound, for a truck this old.
The interior is worn, but not ripped or damaged. There are a few stains on the carpet, as seen in the pics. Everything works - nothing is broken.
The brake lines from the master cylinder to the rear have all been replaced, along with the front crossover line.
All four tires are new last year, and have less then 1000 miles on them. These alone cost $600.00.
Now for the bad - there is an intermittent "check engine" light that comes on. The local parts store read the code, and said I need an oxygen sensor. I have bad knees, and I'm selling the truck, so I have not replaced the sensor. The buyer will have to do that. As it is, the truck runs fine, once it is fully warmed up. But, during the first 20 minutes or so, it has a pronounced hesitation at part throttle. At full throttle, it runs perfectly. Once it gets hot, the problem goes away.
Also, there is a good amount of surface rust on the frame and underneath. There aren't any holes (other than the fenderwells, as previously mentioned), but it should be addressed by the buyer. Also, the rear gas tank leaks. The front tank was replaced 2 years ago, but now the rear one needs replacement too. They cost around $100.00 new, plus installation. It's a very simple job - plenty of access at the back. And, there is a slow oil leak from the oil pan - the oil pan gasket needs to be replaced. It's not very fast, but until it's fixed, the buyer should check the oil at least once a week.
That's about all I can think of. The brake pads and shoes have a couple years on them, but are fine. The left rear wheel cylinder was replaced a couple years ago too. Email with any questions....
I expect Payment within 7 days. The buyer is responsible for getting the truck out of my driveway within 10 days of auction close. The truck is sold as is, where is. I have tried to be as clear as I can, but if you need to know more, send a question. I'll post the response here, so everyone can see it.

Are you a new Ford Mustang SVO? [w/video]
Fri, 16 May 2014When Ford announced that its 2015 Mustang would arrive with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, three letters came to mind: SVO. While Ford hasn't said a word regarding the rebirth of a Mustang SVO model, this latest set of spy shots shows us something very, very interesting. Allow us to explain.
The Mustang prototype in these photos looks very similar to the GT500 test cars we've spotted before - same bulging hood, aggressive front fascia and air vents aft of the front wheels. What's different, however, is around back. Have a look at the exhaust, and note that instead of the GT500's usual quad pipes, two of the exhaust outlets have been capped off.
Our spies point out that these exhaust outlets could be closed for some sort of emissions testing or another engineering reason, but it's also important to note that the engine and exhaust notes of this car sound completely different from earlier GT500 prototypes. We've got a video below that compares the two.
Ford to show special edition Raptor on April 9
Mon, 01 Apr 2013There are precious few details, but what we do know is that Ford will be revealing images of "appearance upgrades" for a special-edition 2014 F-150 SVT Raptor on April 9. The slideshow will happen during a Motor Press Guild luncheon at Ford's Design Center Showroom in Irvine, California.
Without photos or further details, we're left to wonder about the extent of these changes, but aren't expecting anything too significant given the venue. Ford is understood to be revealing a next-generation F-150 with a big weight loss - as much as 700 pounds - for 2014, though it isn't yet clear if that's the truck's model year or simply its on-sale year. For at least a couple of years, Ford forums have been suggesting changes will come with the 2014 Raptor, so there could still be a bigger surprise in store. Either way, we'll know what all this means in a little more than a week. The press release below has the official details, but for the moment, we'll content ourselves by ogling the 2013 model above.
2020 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator reportedly facing numerous QC issues
Mon, Sep 16 2019A lengthy report in the Detroit Free Press delves into a range of quality control issues confronting the 2020 Ford Explorer and its luxury platform sibling, the 2020 Lincoln Aviator. Freep says it's been following the issue for two months, tapping various unnamed sources for information on the automaker's unorthodox route to resolution. Seems the problem is Explorers and Aviators leaving the production line at the Chicago Assembly Plant with flaws in areas like the chassis, transmission and suspension, said vehicles trucked to Ford's Flat Rock Assembly Plant (FRAP) outside of Detroit for repair. The estimates range from 10,000 to 18,000 vehicles affected, numbers so high that Ford has sought help from Roush Engineering in nearby Allen Park, and brought workers and managers from other plants in the Midwest to FRAP to get vehicles repaired and shipped to dealers. Ford hasn't shared the nature of the problems with anyone outside the company, including dealers and customers. Freep's sources are said to include workers who have provided photos of certain vehicles and of tents used to house parts at the FRAP repair site. The Explorer chassis allegedly has an unidentified problem that engineers are using X-rays to diagnose, and the transmission is having problems sensing when it's in park or going into park. Both the Explorer and Aviator have come off the line with HVAC units that only blow hot air. And the Aviator's height-adjustable suspension enters failure mode for unknown reasons. These come on top of quotidian mishaps common to every new vehicle, but that are meant to be sorted in pre-production, like missing emblems and trim pieces. They also come on top of a recall in early August issued for the Explorer and Aviator concerning the instrument cluster and parking brake, and another at the end of August over rear seatbacks that could collapse in a crash. An automaker spokesperson told Freep, "Making updates to preproduction models based on all-new platforms as they roll off the assembly line – is standard industry practice." Except these aren't pre-production, these are early production vehicles that paying customers and dealers are waiting for, and some of the affected vehicles have been pulled off dealer lots. Dealers say they are fine waiting for the trucks to get sorted out, and they'd rather have Ford fix the problems before the SUVs go to customers.
