At the start of this listing, less than 150 miles driven since complete rebuild of engine, carburetor and new clutch.  Cooling system refurbished recently.  Low miles on nearly new tires.  Recent glass replacement with new seals and fairly recently replaced oak bed.  Finish is "Class B" -- nice enough to show but not quite a trophy winner, which makes it very much of a daily driver.  There are a few minor chips and scratches in the paint, but still very glossy and handsome.  Few signs of its 60-year history as a work truck that spent its first fifty years in a single family on a farm in Ohio where it likely lived in a barn since there are no signs of salt damage and only minor rusting in a few remote places like the bottom of the battery box (battery acid induced?).  Mechanically and structurally sound and runs sweetly.  Lots of friction linings (0.260") left on the brakes.  Six-volt electrics with optional 12-volt battery for the starter.  Only the speedometer, odometer and ammeter of the factory original gauges work.  An auxiliary fuel gauge provides accurate information about fuel tank level.  Upholstery, rubber floor mat and interior cab lining are all in very good condition.  Vehicle was purchased by me in February 2009 from a dealer who was probably the second owner.

This year was the 50th anniversary year of Ford being in the car manufacturing business.  It is the first year of the "F100" designation for half-ton pickups, and the last year that Ford offered the popular flathead V8 engine.  Extreme attempts were made to keep the engine and rest of the pickup very close to factory original.  Exceptions would be chrome front and rear bumpers, chrome baby moon hub caps, and twin chrome exhaust tips.  The over-sized exhaust tips give the vehicle a pleasant deep-throated "rumble" sound.

Working odometer reads about 67,000 miles and works, but may have rolled over meaning that it could have 100,000 more miles than is indicated, though unlikely based on the nice condition of the chassis, sheet metal, mechanics, etc.

Hot-selling Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator get production boost

Mon, Feb 12 2018

Ford is investing an additional $25 million in its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville to increase by 25 percent production of the hot-selling and all-new Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition SUVs. The investment adds to $900 million in previously announced spending at the plant, which also builds F-Series Super-Duty pickups and employs 8,400 workers. Assembly-line workers are putting in overtime and working voluntary weekend shifts to keep up with demand. The new investment will cover upgrades to the assembly line but does not involve further hiring, Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker says. The popularity of the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator is a bright spot as Ford stock has been battered by Wall Street amid concerns concerns about the automaker's future vision and slowness to detect trends. Ford says the investment is an example of its bid to improve "operational fitness," one of CEO Jim Hackett's common refrains. Ford says Navigator retail sales more than doubled in January, and Navigators are spending an average of just seven days on Lincoln dealership lots as customers trade in vehicles including Land Rovers and Mercedes-Benz. Nearly 85 percent of buyers are opting for high-end Black Label and Reserve trim packages, contributing to an average transaction price increase of more than $21,000 in January compared to a year ago. The 2018 Navigator won the North American Truck of the Year award and also topped a Detroit News poll of public favorites at last month's Detroit Auto Show. Sales of the Expedition, meanwhile, were up almost 57 percent last month as the full-size SUVs also spent an average of just a week on dealer lots. Platinum trim models represented 29 percent of sales, pushing transaction price increases up $7,800. Ford gave the 2018 Expedition an all-aluminum body to save mass in its first significant redesign since 2007. The plant last year got nearly 400 new robots, mainly in the body shop, to help increase line speed, and Ford added a robot lab where employees can test software tweaks or troubleshoot issues away from the factory floor. The Louisville plant also benefits from extensive new data analytics, with seven big-screen monitors providing minute-by-minute updates showing progress against hourly targets or alerting workers to pending parts shortages. A huge spare-parts "vending machine" lets workers more quickly locate needed parts and keep inventory at necessary levels.

Xcar celebrates 100-year anniversary with Model T tribute

Fri, Jan 9 2015

Never mind the fact that XCar hasn't been making videos for the last 100 years, the British duo have gone all silent-moving-pictures in order to make their centenary case for the Ford Model T, a car that was already seven years old in 1915. It's not a review, but a mostly sepia-tinged look at the car that started the mass-market adventure by taking that biblical advice to be fruitful and multiply and populate the Earth abundantly. Since it looks like Xcar is celebrating some kind of milestone, we've also included another video below of the first Xcar review we could find, covering the BMW M1, from the much more recent past - circa 2012.

Ford is recalling more Takata airbag-equipped Ford and Lincoln models

Thu, Mar 2 2017

The Basics: Takata, the beleaguered airbag supplier at the root of the largest recall in automotive history, has informed Ford of a problem with the airbags in just over 30,000 Ford and Lincoln models. The problem is not related to the non-desiccated ammonium nitrate airbag inflators that plague the other airbags ( including many Fords), meaning there isn't a risk of shrapnel flying out from the units in this particular recall. The Problem: In the event of an accident, the front airbags may only partially inflate, and the airbag may become detached from the module because of misaligned parts. The problem affects 2016 and 2017 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX models built at the Oakville Assembly Plant. The issue also affects 2017 Lincoln Continentals that were built at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Injuries/Deaths: In a release, Ford stated that it is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or deaths related to the airbag issue. The Fix: Dealers will replace the driver-side front airbag module at no cost. If You Own One: Sit tight and wait for Ford to notify owners. When that happens, take your car to the dealer for a replacement. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
