If your like me the term barn find is way overused.  This truck wasn't a barn find, but a warehouse find in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.  A friend of mine purchased it 4 years ago.  The truck had been siting inside the warehouse since the early 70's.  To the best of my knowledge and after close review I don't think that the truck has ever been apart and shows NO signs of any accidents.  It has been subject to what appears to be one (1) repaint along time ago.  My friend proceeded to rebuild the Flathead engine, install a new clutch (which needs adjustment), do a complete brake job which included new wheel cylinders, king pins, flex and steel brake lines, new 8V battery and then lost interest due to the purchase of a Model A.  I bought it from him last spring with the thoughts of a frame up restoration.  My plans have changed as I've found an early Bronco instead to build.

The truck has two minor rust issues, the passenger side rear cab corner (pictured) which will be an easy fix and the driver's side running board (pictured).  The rest of the original sheet metal is nice, really nice.  Don't get me wrong the truck has its minor bruises, but nothing major.  Look at the original bed, its not beat up like most of these are.  There is a dent the size of your fist on top of the tailgate, but the rest of the sheet metal is nice. Its obvious from the condition of the body and frame that this was a city truck and wasn't subject to dirt roads of Arkansas or dirt rot.  Arkansas doesn't use salt on our roads so the truck isn't rusty like a northern truck.

The VIN and Data Plate decode as follows:

F10=F100, R= 239 CI Flat Head Ford V/8, 3 =1953 model year, K= Kansas City production plant

Rear Axle is a 3:92 ratio, Trans =3 speed regular manual transmission

Color = B which is a beautiful Sheridan Blue

If your looking for patina/rat rod then throw a Mexican blanket over the seat, clear the paint, put on a new set of tires (the current tires are dry rotted beyond useability) on it and drive and enjoy her, or this truck is the candidate for an easy restoration.

This truck is sold as-is where-is with no warranties either express or implied. Please ask me your questions before you bid. I will do my best to honestly answer all questions. Winning bidder will be required to pay a non refundable $500.00 deposit within 24 hours after the close of the auction. The balance is due by check, bank wire or cash within 72 hours following the close of the auction. Title or possession of the truck will not pass to the winning bidder until your funds have cleared my bank.  I know nothing about international shipping.  If your an international buyer you must have all of your shipping prearranged.

Bacon-wrapped Ford Fiesta hams it up for International Bacon Day

Wed, 28 Aug 2013

This is a bacon-wrapped Ford Fiesta. It is a real thing, that a real, multi-billion-dollar company designed. And it isn't even April Fools' Day. Designed for International Bacon Day, which is also apparently a thing, the 2014 Fiesta is finished in Green Envy paint - we're told black paint, like the color of a skillet, made the car look camouflaged - and features 10 gigantic decals depicting strips of tender, cured bacon.
The design, which was approved by the CEO of Benton's Country Hams, Allan Benton, show off the depth of Ford's Custom Graphics program. Unbelievably, Ford will actually start offering bacon decals to everyday customers, including (and we can't believe we're writing this) dual bacon racing stripes which will no doubt have Carroll Shelby spinning and/or salivating in his grave, and a "side of bacon," which wraps a couple of strips over the rear wheels.
Benton, who Ford claims is the King of Bacon, had this to say: "This car just makes so much sense." The Fiesta's marketing manager, Liz Elser added, "It's just awesome to drive down the road in a piece of bacon."

How that awesome Mustang R/C car chase vid was made

Tue, 06 Aug 2013

We've reported on a few R/C car chase videos in the past. One in particular that stands out as a favorite is Zach King's "The Cliché RC Action Chase." It featured a pair of Ford Mustang coupes racing through a cardboard city, plowing into outdoor patios and busting through construction zones. It was wonderfully creative and fun to watch, yet we know there was more to its creation than a bunch of guys fooling around with a camera one afternoon.
Turns out we were right, as evidenced by this video produced by Ford that takes us behind the scenes of Zach's creation. The young filmmaker explains why he chose the Mustang to star in his video, as well as how the cardboard sets were created, what equipment they used for shooting and what it was like when his video went viral. Ford found the young filmmaker and produced the followup as part of its Mustang Countdown video series, which will see a new video about the Mustang culture released every week until the original muscle car's anniversary on April 17, 2014.
Want to make an RC chase video of your own? Yeah, we do too. Watch the behind-the-scenes video below (you can refresh yourself on the mini feature film, too) before you get started.

Toyota again claims Corolla outsold Focus worldwide

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

Toyota isn't convinced the Ford Focus was the best-selling nameplate globally last year. Bloomberg reports that for the second time in seven months, both Toyota and Ford are laying claim to the title. Ford cites R.L. Polk & Co. data that says the automaker moved some 1.02 million Focus models in 2012 compared to just 872,774 Toyota Corolla units. But Toyota says the actual figure is closer to 1.16 million Corolla models.
Last year, Ford said it took the sales crown through the fist half of 2012 based on information from IHS Automotive, but Toyota pointed out those numbers left out models like the Corolla-based Matrix and Auris, as well as the Corolla Fielder and Scion xB-based Corolla Rumion. Whether or not Toyota's belief that all these cars should be counted in the Corolla bucket is accurate or not is seemingly up for debate... as is the question of why it matters so much to both parties.
This time around, Ford is holding the line that the Focus is the "best-selling nameplate," with Erich Merkle, a US sales analyst with Ford saying the company's figure is, "a pure number that is verified by a third party." Toyota, meanwhile, has requested clarification from Polk.
