I've had the truck for about 3 years and the interior is in great shape, new vinyl floormat, everything looks good and is clean. The truck starts and runs good.  New Goodyear truck tires, less than 2 years old with less than 5,000 miles on them. Updated engine components: chrome valve cover, Ofenhauser intake manifold with Edelbrock 4 barrel carb and Headman headers with new dual exhaust and mufflers. The C6 Transmission has a deep chrome pan on it and shifts smootly. Well maintained truck with less than 71,000 original miles.  In line 300 Cu in (4.9L) engine with 3 speed automatic C-6 Transmission and Ford 9" rear differential.  Included in the sale is the paint for repainting the truck to the original factory colors and a new, in the box, sliding rear window and gasket, new rear tail light lenses, and newly chromed letters for the hood (F-O-R-D), and new chrome exterior door handles.  I've already replaced the front bumper and headlight bezels, and the grill has been repainted. The bed is in great shape and doesn't appear to have been used much.  The truck had a camper top bolted down on it when I bought it and I have the receipt where it was purchased and installed when the truck was a couple of weeks old, so the bed never saw rain until I bought it and it appears to have always had a rubber bed mat to protect it.  The truck is equiped with a heavy duty receiver hitch (2" sq stock).
The original owner was stationed at Red Stone Arsenal in Alabama and had the truck for about 20 years and 40,000 miles.  I bought it from a retired sheriff in middle Tennessee who was mainly using it to tow his pontoon boat to the lake and haul some hay bales around his farm.  I've used the truck to commute back and forth to work when the weather was bad, otherwise I ride a motorcyle. I also use it to pick up things from Lowe's or Home Depot on the weekends, but I've only put about 10,000 miles on it in the three years I've had it.
This truck has had a fairly easy life, good maintenance and with a little paint and body work could be a showroom classic.  I've taken a new job out of town and won't have time to work on the finishing touches so I'm letting it go.  My loss is your gain.
The winning bidder will need to place a deposit by Paypal within 24 hours of $1000 and pick up the truck and bring final payment in cash within a week of winning.  The title is clear and in my possession.

2014 Ford Fiesta ST priced from $21,400* [w/poll]

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

The 2014 model year brings a whole host of changes to Ford's Fiesta B-Segment fighter, the most important of which (to our enthusiast eyes, anyway) is the addition of a potent new ST model. The US-spec hot hatch was first shown at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show last November, and thanks to Ford's build-and-price site, we've now learned that the Fiesta ST will slide in at $21,400 when it goes on sale later this year (*not including $795 for destination).
Under the hood of the ST is a turbocharged 1.6-liter EcoBoost inline-four good for 197 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque, mated solely to a six-speed manual transmission. Ford hasn't released performance data on its pint-sized puncher just yet, but know that these numbers make the Fiesta ST ever-so-slightly more powerful than the larger Volkswagen GTI while returning an estimated 34 miles per gallon on the highway.
Elsewhere in the lineup, the standard Fiesta also gets a smattering of improvements for the 2014 model year, including a new 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine and revised exterior styling. Pricing for the 2014 Fiesta sedan starts at $14,000, with the five-door model adding $600 to that number (again excluding the $795 destination fee).

Toyota tops Kelley Blue Book's Resale Value Awards

Tue, 27 Nov 2012

Kelley Blue Book announced its annual Best Resale Value Award winners, and we weren't too surprised to see the list dominated by Japanese automakers - mainly Toyota and Honda. KBB hands out the awards based on the projected residual value of mostly all 2013 model year vehicles, and Toyota skated home with a number of awards including 10 of the 22 overall categories and having five of its products in the top 10 for models with best resale value. KBB's Best Resale Value Awards were announced in the same week as the ALG Residual Value Awards, and there were many similarities between both lists, especially when it came to Toyota.
To come up with its winners, KBB measures depreciation over the first five years of ownership, and looks for the cars it expects to hold its value the best after this time; on average, the report says the 2013 model year vehicles will lose 61.8 percent of its value in five years. Of the 22 categories, 15 slots were filled by Toyota, Honda and Nissan products, while the Camaro and Porsche (Cayenne and Panamera) each took home a pair of awards. If Toyota has anything to be upset about in this list of cars, it's that categories for Hybrid/Alternative Energy Car and Electric Vehicle went to the Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Volt, respectively.
The overall top 10 models for the best resale value in 2013 are, in alphabetical order:

Is it time for American carmakers to give up on dual-clutch transmissions? [w/poll]

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Last week, in the midst of Detroit's first days seeking relief in Chapter 9 of the bankruptcy code, Automotive News contributor Larry P. Vellequette penned an editorial suggesting that American car companies raise the white flag on dual clutch transmissions and give up on trying to persuade Americans to buy cars fitted with them. Why? Because, Vellequette says, like CVT transmissions, they "just don't sound right or feel right to American drivers." (Note: In the article, it's not clear if Vellequette is arguing against wet-clutch and dry-clutch DCTs or just dry-clutch DCTs, which is what Ford and Chrysler use.) The article goes on to state that Ford and Chrysler have experimented with DCTs and that both consumers and the automotive press haven't exactly given them glowing reviews, despite their quicker shifts and increased fuel efficiency potential compared to torque-converter automatic transmissions.
Autoblog staffers who weighed in on the relevance of DCTs in American cars generally disagreed with the blanket nature of Vellequette's statement that they don't sound or feel right, but admit that their lack of refinement compared to traditional automatics can be an issue for consumers. That's particularly true in workaday cars like the Ford Focus and Dodge Dart, both of which have come in for criticism in reviews and owner surveys. From where we sit, the higher-performance orientation of such transmissions doesn't always meld as well with the marching orders of everyday commuters (particularly if drivers haven't been educated as to the transmission's benefits and tradeoffs), and in models not fitted with paddle shifters, it's particularly hard for drivers to use a DCT to its best advantage.
Finally, we also note that DCT tuning is very much an evolving science. For instance, Autoblog editors who objected to dual-clutch tuning in the Dart have more recently found the technology agreeable in the Fiat 500L. Practice makes perfect - or at least more acceptable.
