Up for your consideration is my fathers 1973 Ford Ranger F-100 Short Bed. It is important to recognize this truck as a short bed because most came with a long bed. There arn't many of these running around in this condition. My dad is the 3rd owner of this truck and has owned it for the 3 years now. In that time frame my dad has restored an already nice original truck. The truck has spent all of its life in californinia. My dad had the truck professionally painted base coat clear coat about 1 1/2 years ago. Paint is in great condition along with all the chrome moldings also in great shape. All the weatherstripping was replaced along with a new front windshield.New rear chrome bumper was added to the truck. Truck was also painted inside by the same shop. Bench was redone custom fitted with yellow houndstooth pattern along with new carpeting and a new vinyl headliner. Door panels were replaced by previous owner and are in great shape. The undercairage of truck was also detailed hand brush painted by my dad with por15 rust preventative product. The bed of the truck was also redone by removing old bedliner material and having the body shop spray new bedliner material to protect the bed.The truck retains all the original exterior sheet metal and is rust free. There was some minor small rust holes in the floor pans but was fixed by the body shop. The truck has 360 big block engine. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner. The engine is original to the truck and runs great. The truck has petronix electronic ignition . The engine has headers as well as flowmaster exhaust. The only thing my dad did to the engine was minor things like install a aluminum edelbrock manifold (still has original) and other minor maintaince items like change spark plugs, new battery etc...The truck has an automatic transmission that the prevous owner had rebuilt. The truck also has power front disc brakes. He installed new brake hoses and brake calipers and pads.Has aftermarket radio. My father has kept this truck in great shape. Truck looks and runs great. If you have any question feel free to email me. Please ask all questions before offering on the truck. Truck is available to see in person by request. Located in the sf east bay area. If your offer is accepted you must pay a non refundable deposit of $500 through paypal or cash with in 3 days of auction close. The balance is due within 7 days of auction close by cash or wire transfer.I will absolutly not take any personal checks. Please do not offer if you do not have the money to buy the truck. Ford's Galhotra succeeds Farley as head of Lincoln
Wed, 23 Jul 2014Ford Motor Company is announcing a major personnel shakeup that could have a dramatic effect on the future of the Lincoln division. Kumar Galhotra (pictured above), currently vice president of engineering at Ford for all of its vehicles worldwide, is taking over as the president of the luxury brand on September 1, replacing Jim Farley. The automaker is also hiring a new head of advanced engineering.
Galhotra has a huge job ahead of him as the new boss of Lincoln worldwide, overseeing product development, marketing, sales and service. His task is to turn the luxury division into a world-class brand as quickly as possible, and he reports directly to Ford President and CEO Mark Fields.
"These changes underscore our commitment to build on the success of our One Ford plan by accelerating our pace of progress. They also make clear we are serious about Lincoln as a world-class luxury brand and that product excellence and innovation are what will deliver growth and define our entire company going forward," said Fields in the company's announcement.
Is it time for American carmakers to give up on dual-clutch transmissions? [w/poll]
Mon, 22 Jul 2013Last week, in the midst of Detroit's first days seeking relief in Chapter 9 of the bankruptcy code, Automotive News contributor Larry P. Vellequette penned an editorial suggesting that American car companies raise the white flag on dual clutch transmissions and give up on trying to persuade Americans to buy cars fitted with them. Why? Because, Vellequette says, like CVT transmissions, they "just don't sound right or feel right to American drivers." (Note: In the article, it's not clear if Vellequette is arguing against wet-clutch and dry-clutch DCTs or just dry-clutch DCTs, which is what Ford and Chrysler use.) The article goes on to state that Ford and Chrysler have experimented with DCTs and that both consumers and the automotive press haven't exactly given them glowing reviews, despite their quicker shifts and increased fuel efficiency potential compared to torque-converter automatic transmissions.
Autoblog staffers who weighed in on the relevance of DCTs in American cars generally disagreed with the blanket nature of Vellequette's statement that they don't sound or feel right, but admit that their lack of refinement compared to traditional automatics can be an issue for consumers. That's particularly true in workaday cars like the Ford Focus and Dodge Dart, both of which have come in for criticism in reviews and owner surveys. From where we sit, the higher-performance orientation of such transmissions doesn't always meld as well with the marching orders of everyday commuters (particularly if drivers haven't been educated as to the transmission's benefits and tradeoffs), and in models not fitted with paddle shifters, it's particularly hard for drivers to use a DCT to its best advantage.
Finally, we also note that DCT tuning is very much an evolving science. For instance, Autoblog editors who objected to dual-clutch tuning in the Dart have more recently found the technology agreeable in the Fiat 500L. Practice makes perfect - or at least more acceptable.
Ford recalling 65k Fusions from 2014 and 2015 because key can be removed
Tue, 18 Nov 2014Ford is recalling an estimated 64,869 examples of the 2014-2015 Fusion, Fusion Energi and Fusion Hybrid in North America because the key can be removed when the vehicle isn't in Park under certain conditions. Specifically, the campaign covers 56,479 units in the US, 6,048 in Canada and 2,342 in Mexico, according to the automaker's tally on November 11.
Ford says a programming problem in the instrument cluster means that the key can be removed 30 minutes after the ignition is turned off, even if the transmission is not in Park. The situation where this could happen seems quite limited, and the company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue. However, the fault puts the vehicle out of compliance with federal regulations covering theft protection and rollaways, and must be repaired.
The fix is easy: Ford will reprogram the instrument cluster at no cost to consumers. According to Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker in an email to Autoblog, "We will notify customers the week of January 5th." Scroll down to read Ford's announcement.
