This truck was purchased in oct 2012 from Virginia. Over the winter the original 390 was out to freshen it and ended up replacing it with a totally rebuilt 390 with 0 miles on it that a buddy had sitting in his shop. Everything from the 650 Edelbrock carb to the oil pan is brand new. The engine has 1800 miles on it presently with no issues. Also installed new ceramic Hedman "elite" headers, pipes and magnaflow stainless mufflers that sound great on a strong running 390. The motor is backed by arebuilt C-6 3speed auto trans and a 9" rearend. While the engine was out the engine bay was stripped and finished it in ceramic satin black paint. Everything under the hood has been replaced including all the hoses, cables, heater control, radiator, starter, alt, raq joint, steering box, brakes, wheel cylinders, and master cylinder. Inside the steering colume was replaced with a tilt out of a 79 lariat with the 14" wheel. Also replaced the dash pad, speedometer/ gauge cluster bezel, sun pro tach, am/fm cd player (sony) with Kicker speakers in the doors, speedometer cable and rear view mirror. Also installed were 2002 lariat 6 way power seat with lumbar support(working) and cup holders in the armrest for comfort with blue LED's under the seat. This truck has a totally solid body with absolutely no cab mount or floor rot issues. It has minor radiator support rust on the right side, the underside is partially cleaned up and partially cleaned up and painted ( from rearend back and front cab mounts forward). The outside body has about a 10 year old paint job, so the truck is not perfect but it draws attention everywhere it goes . If you are looking for a early 70's Ford truck with a little cosmetic work left to do to make it your own, this is the truck for you! Will also consider letting the original numbers matching 390 (drove the truck 10 hours home with) go for an additional cost. Vehicle pickup is your responsibility, NO DELIVERY! The truck is for sale locally and have the right to end the auction early. Payment to be discussed with the winning bidder. I am listing this truck for a friend, if you have any further question or concerns e-mail me and I will provide with his phone number. Thanks for looking and Good luck!

MotorWeek relives '80s coupes with Dodge Daytona, Ford Escort EXP
Thu, Aug 6 2015Get ready for a wave of nostalgia and the rapid realization of the huge progress in performance cars over the last 30 years. For its latest Retro Review, MotorWeek takes a look back at two, front-wheel drive coupes from the '80s that seem to have entirely vanished from the roads today. Both the 1986 Dodge Daytona CS and the 1986.5 Ford Escort EXP were considered affordable, sporty options in their day, but the passage of time hasn't been kind to either of their specs. The Daytona certainly looks the part of a performance machine with a body that's reminiscent of other '80s coupes, like the third-gen Chevrolet Camaro. However with 146 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque from a 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, acceleration wasn't exactly a strong suit. MotorWeek complained about copious torque steer, as well. The optional CS suspension upgrade package on this Daytona was apparently a nod to Carroll Shelby who was working with Dodge at the time. If anything, the Escort EXP withstands the test of time even worse. As a two-seat coupe, you might have expected Ford's engineers to really turn up the performance to fit the sporty image that the exterior conveyed. That didn't really happen, and depending on which model buyers ordered, they got either 86 horsepower with a 1.9-liter engine or the "high-output" version of that mill with 108 hp.
Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?
Fri, May 27 2016When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. The tricky business of octane, power, and MPG
Thu, Aug 27 2015Given tepid green-car sales numbers this year, consumers in the US aren't making the transition away from internal combustion engines too quickly. Regulations are still mandating cleaner emissions, though. In addition to downsizing and turbocharging, there's growing consideration about moving to higher-octane fuel to improve overall efficiency. In a new report, engineers at FCA, Ford and General Motors Powertrain are showing that it could work, too. The major advantage to higher-octane fuel is that it supports higher compression ratios. That in turn can lead to more power from burning the same amount of gas. "Higher ethanol content is one available option for increasing the octane ratings of gasoline and would provide additional engine efficiency benefits for part and full load operation," the researchers write in the study's abstract. The authors even think it could be possible to update some modern vehicles' engine calibration to be optimized for the better gas. While the benefits are there, we still have a long way to go before higher-octane fuel becomes a national standard. According to Green Car Congress, 87 percent of the gas sold in the US is regular grade 87-octane. Meanwhile, premium 91-93 octane makes up just 10 percent. The various grades of fuel illuminate even more annoyances with the current system. For example, Ford generally recommends 93-octane for EcoBoost engines, and the power outputs that the company publishes are based on using it. However according to Green Car Reports, such premium gas is very difficult to find in some regions of the US, especially along the West Coast. The powertrains still run on lesser grades but with lower power output. The researchers' discussion of possibly increasing ethanol in gas also comes during a heated debate on the substance. The current administration is pushing for less of the corn-based fuel in the coming years. Although, several presidential hopefuls might be favor of reversing that course.
