THE STANDARD CAB STYLE SIDE SHORT BED WAS DEBUTED AT THE 2012 SEMA SHOW AND HAS BEEN FEATURED IN CLASSIC TRUCK TRENDS MAGAZINE, TRUCKIN MAGAZINE AND MOST RECENTLY THE JUNE COVER TRUCK IN MAGNASON SUPERCHARGERS 2014 CALENDAR. THE TRUCK IS PAINTED WITH A CUSTOM COLOR FOR THIS TRUCK BUILD CALLED TANTILIZING TURQUOISE FROM BASF PAINT. ALL THE WHITE PARTS ARE THE STANDARD CHRYSLER PW7. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT KNOW 1960 FORDS, CLOSE INSPECTION WILL SHOW A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF SUBTLE METAL WORK. THE FRONT OF THE HOOD HAS BEEN EXTENDED DOWNWARD 2 INCHES OPENING THE HOOD VENTS BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY CLOSING THE HUGE FACTORY GAP BETWEEN THE HOOD AND THE GRILLE. THE FRONT BUMPER IS MODIFIED AND SHORTENED BY 8 INCHES FROM A 1967 FORD F100. THE REAR BUMPER IS ALSO FROM A 1967 F100 AND SHORTENED BY 10 INCHES. THE FRONT PART OF THE FRONT FENDER IS EXTENDED DOWNWARD 2 INCHES AS WELL AS THE REAR PART OF THE REAR FENDER. ALL RAIN CHANNELS ON THE CAB AS WELL AS THE FACTORY WELD SEAMS ON THE CAB HAVE BEEN REMOVED AND OR WELDED SMOOTH. THE TAIL LIGHTS WERE MOVED FROM THE HIGHER POSITION TO A LOW POSITION WITH THE ENTIRE AREA SMOOTHED AND SQUARED OFF (SEE A FACTORY ONE TO COMPARE). THE TAILGATE WAS SLIGHTLY MODIFIED TO MEET UP WITH THESE NEW BODY LINES. LOOKING INTO THE BED YOU WILL SEE MASSIVE WHEEL TUBS WELDED IN WITH THE INSIDE OF THE BEDSIDES FILLED WITH METAL AND SMOOTHED. THE FRONT OF THE BED IS A METAL ENCLOSURE THAT ALLOWS VIEWING OF THE LEXAN SUBWOOFER BOX. THE TAILGATE IS ON AN ELECTRIC ACTUATOR CONTROLLED WITH THE REMOTE FOR THE ALARM SYSTEM. Vaughn Gittin Jr. spends a great deal of his workday going sideways, but he's usually alone in the endeavor. For a guy that is clearly a dog lover, we imagine that can get a bit lonely.
That won't be a problem for Gittin in this latest video, which features the racer hanging out with his good pal Brody (a dog) and everyone's favorite hot hatch, the Ford Fiesta ST.
2015 Ford F-150 shaves 700 pounds, adds 2.7-liter EcoBoost [w/video]
Mon, 13 Jan 2014The Ford F-150 is one of the best selling vehicles on the planet. Considering that, one can imagine that when it comes time for a redesign, there are hardly any half measures. For its lucky thirteenth generation, Ford has gone all-in on the single most important vehicle in its portfolio, redesigning it from the ground up.
The big news is the F-150's new, lightweight, Atlas-inspired body. Ninety-three percent of that new body is made from a sort of aluminum alloy not unlike what the US military uses in its M2 Bradley fighting vehicles and Humvees, and it accounts for up to 70 percent of the F-150's 700-pound weight reduction. As a side benefit, the aluminum body should prove more resistant to dents and dings. Built Ford tough, indeed.
If you're wondering where the other 30 percent of that 700-pound weight loss went, 8.5 percent (60 pounds) came from the increased use of high-strength steel (up from 23 percent to 77 percent) in its ladder-box frame. Ford claims this steel is comparable to some of the heavy duty pickups used by its competitors, with a PSI rating of 70,000.
