Oh, look what I have for YOU!!!!!

Up for sale, is my 1998 Ford Explorer!!!

(Cue: "Great...another SUV for sale....I can hardly contain myself...")

Come on...you should be HAPPY!! This and the Taurus were Ford's money makers back in the day. You can't tell me that you haven't seen at least three of these trucks every 10 miles...

(Cue: "Well, I have...but...")

But nothing!!!

Here....I'll tell you about what I have for sale.

(Cue: "Sigh. Okay...")

Good. As I said, it's a 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. The truck has 205,000 miles on it...

(Cue: "WHAT?!?!")

Yup. And it runs like a beast. Hondas, Benzes, and some Volvos have more mileage than that. Take a breath, and keep reading.

It's black, with gold lower body paint (tr`es chic!!), and a swanky gold pin stripe. Inside, you'll find tan leather interior, an overhead console, and even a power moonroof (try finding THAT on an inexpensive used car!). For those of you thinking that the 1990s were still the year of the cassette (they were...to an extent...), have no fear; this Explorer has a CD player! Woot!!!

Need power to pass? No worries here! This Explorer comes with a 5.0 liter V8 engine. Powerful enough to pass an old lady driving a Chevette, or even to outrun a cop!!

(Cue: "Oh??")

Well, maybe not THAT powerful enough...but you get the idea.

This Explorer starts up....goes "vroom"....drives...stops...and drives again. And....it passed State Inspection!!! At the DMV, and not a gas station!! ON THE FIRST SHOT!!! The sticker is good until August 2014.

(Cue: "Oh, my!!!")

Indeed!

(Cue: "Well....that's great. I guess. But what's WRONG with the car...er...SUV? Every ad I've seen on Craigslist for an inexpensive car, will list either massive issues, or worse...the cryptic "needs TLC". Are people really afraid to list what's wrong with their car?")

Yes. They are.

And of course, like any used car....especially one that's 15 years old...there's going to be some work needed. Thankfully, it's stuff that you can do over time.

So...

1): The keyless entry does not work. The truck DOES have it...but the remote is long gone, and I don't know what the code is for the keypad on the door. But don't fret. You can still get into the truck, the old fashioned way - by using the key.

2): Speaking of locks; the passenger's front door lock does not operate from the outside, and the driver's side power door lock control does not lock the doors (it will, however, lock them). Again, if you need to let passengers in, you can use the key for the driver's door lock. A quick half-turn will unlock all the doors...kind of like in an old Honda. It's a neat feature.

3): The interior is a little worn. The seats look okay, save for scuffs and stuff....but the center console armrest is a mess. You'll want to invest in a natty roll of tan or beige duct tape, and wrap the foam pad down. It'll look so much better.

4): The air conditioner does not work. Here again, I have no idea why. I tried charging it last summer, and it took all the freon (those Pep Boys quick charge canisters are awesome)...but it would still blow lukewarm to hot air. Heat and I don't get along. Even with "4/70 air conditioning". Perhaps you'll get along better with it. Or, you'll find a way to fix it. The heater, however, DOES work.

5): The rear door on the driver's side does not open from the inside. The release handle is broken. You'll want to tape this up, so that your kids (if you have kids) don't get hurt. Or, you can invest in a new/used one.

6): You will need minor maintenance stuff (wiper blades, oil change, brake pads, tires), but not today. Definitely down the road, though. I don't believe it needs a tune-up, as it seems to run without a hitch.

7): The a/c adapters do not work. It could be a fuse. It could be more. I don't know.

Other things I just thought of....

The power seat works (I don't remember if the passenger's seat is power or not....I think my ex-girlfriend sat in it once, adjusted it, and didn't touch it since...). The folding rear seats work. The electric windows work. The defroster works. 99% of the gauge lights work (I think the lighting over the battery level is out during the night). The headlights, fog lights, and brake lights work. The moonroof works. The truck has an anti-theft system, which activates when you lock the car, and dis-arms when you unlock it (factory system, of course). Two of the alloy hubcaps are kind of yucky; you'll want to get new ones if you care about aesthetics.

Anyway, that's about all I can think of.

And now...the legal stuff...

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A USED CAR, BEING SOLD BY A PRIVATE PARTY!  It is an AS-IS, WHERE-IS sale. You are NOT getting a warranty or a guarantee. Please don't ask.

If you live locally, PLEASE COME INSPECT THE VEHICLE BEFORE BIDDING! No, you may not take it off my property, but you MAY inspect it on site.

I beg and implore you to BRING A MECHANIC WITH YOU!!! This can prevent you from any unexpected surprises. If you choose not to bring a mechanic - that's fine.....but don't state that I didn't suggest it.

I request a $50.00 deposit for the winning buyer, which can be made through PayPal. The rest of the payment MUST BE MADE IN CASH. No checks. No credit cards. CASH ONLY.

If you have negative feedback, or you are new to eBay, you MUST contact me before bidding. Failure to do so, will result in your bid being canceled.

Please do NOT ask what the reserve price is. It is a fair and firm price. Let's keep eBay fun for everyone.

YOU MUST ARRANGE FOR YOUR OWN TRANSPORT!!! Again, this car has over 200K miles on it. If you live in California, you're probably NOT going to want to drive this car home. I am not shipping this car to you. I am not delivering it to you. You are to come and meet me in person, so I can verify that you are real.

If you have ANY questions - or are in doubt of something - please ASK ME!!!

Oh - it has a clean title. Ready to sign over.

Serious buyers only, please.

Ford Transit production fires up, American Pickers among first takers

Wed, 30 Apr 2014

Not long ago, the History Channel showed a seemingly unending stream of World War II documentaries, but it made a switch a few years ago to include an increasing mix of 'reality' programming. American Pickers was one of the early attempts at this new formula, with cameras following hosts Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz around the country in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter as they tracked down collectibles and "rusty gold" for their Iowa shop, Antique Archeology. The show has since gone on to become one of the channel's most popular programs.
Starting in the new episode airing tonight, the affable hosts will swap their Benz for a 2015 Ford Transit, a nicely timed bit of marketing to coincide with the launch of the model's assembly at the Blue Oval's Kansas City Assembly Plant, which also kicks off this week. Ford is touting 2,000 new jobs created as part of its $1.1-billion investment in the plant.
No strangers to product placement, the guys from American Pickers say their switch away from the Sprinter is because they wanted to balance cargo capacity and fuel economy to make the most of their cross-country jaunts. They opted for the largest Transit available with a long wheelbase, extended body and high roof, giving them 487 cubic feet of cargo room. Hauling power comes from a 3.2-liter, five-cylinder diesel engine with 190 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive. Fittingly, the van wears the same Antique Archaeology logo over white paint as their old Sprinter.

Ford to ramp up Lincoln rollout in China in bid to catch rivals

Thu, Apr 12 2018

DETROIT/BEIJING — Ford Motor Co's premium Lincoln brand plans to build as many as five new vehicles in China by 2022, according to two U.S. sources, in a move to expand sales in the world's largest vehicle market that would also blunt the impact of trade U.S.-China trade spats. Ford has said it plans to build an all-new sport utility vehicle in China by the end of 2019, however the company has not detailed future production plans for the Lincoln brand in China beyond that. "Our localization plans to support the China market are on track and will serve to further drive Lincoln's growth in China," Lincoln spokeswoman Angie Kozleski said. "Beyond that, it would be premature to discuss our future product and production plans or timing." Sources familiar with Ford's production plans told Reuters the automaker now expects to begin building the new Lincoln Aviator in China in late 2019 or early 2020, along with replacements for the MKC compact crossover and the MKZ midsize sedan, followed in 2021 by the all-new Nautilus, which replaces the Lincoln MKX crossover. A fifth model, a small coupe-like crossover, is tentatively slated for production in China in 2022, the sources said. Ford has much to lose if the war of words over trade between China and U.S. President Donald Trump escalates into a full-blown tariff war. Last year, it shipped about 80,000 vehicles to China from North America, more than half of them Lincolns to support the brand's growth. All Lincoln vehicles that Ford now sells in China are brought in from North America. Even if China does reduce its 25 percent tariff on imported vehicles - as Chinese President Xi Jinping promised on Tuesday - it is not clear that would mean a big, long-term increase in Fords and Lincolns made in U.S. factories heading to Chinese showrooms. Ford is pursuing long-range plans to build more vehicles in China to serve a market that is now roughly 60 percent larger than the U.S. market, and projected to keep growing. But it is playing catch up to hometown rival General Motors Co and German luxury brands including Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which have invested heavily in Chinese production in recent years as a form of insurance against trade, political and currency gyrations and to lower price points for their premium cars.
