Mon, Aug 17 2015The first Shelby GT350 Mustang came out a year after the first Ford Mustang, a collaboration between the carmaker and Carroll Shelby bent on making the Mustang a race winner. Perhaps even better than the car is Shelby's story behind its creation, when Ford chairman Lee Iaccoca gave him the "impossible job" of turning "a secretary's car... into a sports car." Shelby and his cohorts got that job done immediately, taking three SCCA B-Class national championships. The latest Ford Shelby GT350 is coming a year after the latest Mustang's debut, and it's certainly got the specs on paper to look like a track monster, especially in GT350R form. This year the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Shelby GT350 Mustang, and the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance featured the car in a special category. Reborn Ford Escort could make its way to Europe
Fri, 26 Apr 2013The Ford Escort concept just unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show was created with the Chinese market in mind, but it's got people talking all over the world. Not purely fancy, the point of the Escort concept was to give Chinese buyers a preview of what they could expect to see in a Ford showroom in the near future. If Ford wasn't seriously considering the new Escort for other countries, a report in Auto Express indicates that the concept's reception has changed all that.
No less than the incoming chairman of Ford UK said "it could work in other places," bolstering the comments of "a senior Ford insider" who said the question of bringing the car to Europe to slot in underneath the Focus had been raised. That's a long way from anything of the kind happening, which would require Ford to figure out how to sell it for the right price and not torpedo the company reputation among Euro buyers. In any case, we'd be as intrigued as anyone if an Escort resurrection created the next 'who knew?' market segment of few-frills transportation offered by non-Asian carmakers.
Ford confirms Everest SUV production for China
Sat, 19 Apr 2014According to Ford, the Chinese SUV segment grew by 49 percent in 2013, and the Blue Oval held a 4.5 percent market share. At the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, Ford is showing the Everest SUV that, while just a concept for now, will go into production in the near future.
The Everest is a big, brawny seven-seat SUV that mixes solid, chiseled styling and contemporary Ford design cues. Up front there is an angular version of the trapezoidal grille and sharp, wraparound headlights. The beltline rises in the rear to make the back appear higher than the front. The rear seems just as chiseled, with the taillights resting in jagged scallops. There is no doubt that this concept means to look rugged, and ready for rough roads - the whole thing looks pretty great.
The truck was penned by Ford's Asia Pacific design and engineering team in Australia, and it was first shown in Sydney last year. Ford's JMC joint venture will build the truck for the Chinese market, and it will be sold at Ford dealers there. The Blue Oval isn't hinting at what powers the production version yet, but it reportedly shares some components with the foreign-market Ranger.
