2005 Diesel Ford Excursion 4x4 on 2040-cars
Farmington, New Mexico, United States
This Excursion is like new mechanically and in very good condition cosmetically. I am a perfectionist and when the EGR cooler went out last year. I replaced and upgraded any parts I knew would be a problem in the future. At that time we were going to keep the Excursion for many years to come, but due to financial concerns I have had to put my baby up for sale. I have owned the vehicle since 2009.This was a hard decision to make because it is now such a great vehicle. Below is a list of all of the parts that were replaced during the repair. The engine was taken out of the vehicle and placed on an engine stand to be fully inspected and any parts that were prone to wear or that would be hard to replace in the future due to location were replaced. Engine was not overheated when the EGR cooler went bad. It happened in winter and was noticed due to increased moisture coming out of exhaust pipe. No evidence of heat damage when the engine was disassembled. All parts are FORD parts from the dealer except the upgraded EGR cooler and radiator. All bolts during assembly were torqued to specifications using factory manual.
Head gaskets with ARP head studs(the head gaskets were not blown), but ARP studs are much superior than factory bolts. Bulletproof EGR cooler Thermostat and housing Oil Cooler Oil pump HPOP fitting upgrade all oil pan gaskets including bedplate gasket(bearings inspected(like new) Front and rear main seals with wear sleeves(installed with seal tool from dealer). waterpump front and rear cover gaskets flywheel and dampner bolts torque converter nuts drive shaft bolts crank and camshaft sensors A/C recharged and tested for leaks by dealer upon completion of assembly new all aluminum radiator from bulletproof diesel glow plug wire harnesses Both fuel filters replaced Both transmission filters replaced All fluids replaced with FORD recommended fluids exhaust and intake manifold gaskets new exhaust manifold bolts Heads inspected and tested for cracks and leaks by the machine shop that the FORD dealer uses, original heads put back on vehicle due to excellent condition. NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue
Tue, 07 Oct 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.
Michigan museum offers Model T driving classes
Sun, 29 Dec 2013Halfway between Detroit and Chicago, there is a car museum that gives visitors a unique level of interaction with antique cars. The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI has a driver's training class to teach people of any age to learn how to drive a Ford Model T.
From the crank starter to the column-mounted throttle control, this driving school teaches people all there is to know about driving and operating a Model T. Each class lasts about two and a half hours and is only open to 18 students. There are ten sessions planned for 2014 - twice a day on May 3, June 22, July 22, August 23 and September 14. The class costs $95 (or $85 for members), and it also includes a tour of the museum's automobile collection.
In addition to this driving school, the museum has plenty of exhibits on the property, and it's open all but three days per year (Easter, Christmas and New Year's Day) with free admission for school field trips and active military. Be sure to check out the Gilmore Car Museum's website or visit them on Facebook for more info.
