Up for auction is a very clean and ready to get in drive 2000 Ford Excursion XLT with the Triton V 10 gas engine. This is the 4 wheel drive version. I have owned three Ford trucks with this engine and they are underrated and often overlooked for their virtually bullet proof performance. While the 7.3 Diesels may be "legendary", they are ridiculously expensive and you can buy a whole lot of gas for the difference in price. The V-10 engine makes a lot of torque at low rpm(like a diesel) and unless you are planning to tow your house it is more than adequate for your boat, RV trailer, or race car trailer. At a 112K miles, it is just getting broken in. This car is a very clean, low mileage vehicle that has been well cared for. As you evaluate similar Excursions keep in mind that this car has had recent service/maintenance including brand new tires with less than a 1000 miles, new high dollar off road heavy duty shocks, new stabilizer bushings, front rotors and complete brake service, and all fluids checked/changed for new owner. Good options for an XLT with A/C, leather, power seats, multi-disc changer and alloy wheels. The exterior has a few door dings here and there and has small scrape on the right rear quarter panel (pictured). Other than that, it is in excellent condition. The interior is in good condition as well with the major flaw being a small separation in the drivers seat which is very common with all Ford trucks that have leather seats. It does have third row seating. I have it out but it will be included. AC is ice cold and everything works with the exception of the power locks. Sometimes they work but more often than not they only actuate a couple of locks. I wouldn't be afraid to go anywhere in this vehicle. Price is very fair for an Excursion with low miles and condition so bid to win. Shipping is responsibility of the purchaser but I will be happy to be available when carrier calls to pick it up. This is a 15 year old vehicle that has been used for its intended purpose (meaning hauling kids, stuff and towing) so don't expect perfection. Former Cadillac boss Butler takes Ford tech job
Tue, 07 Jan 2014When Don Butler made the surprising decision to leave his post as Cadillac's VP of global strategic development, it was a surprise. Citing a desire to "recalibrate, reassess my priorities" in that August announcement, it wasn't entirely clear where Butler - a virtual General Motors lifer after spending nearly 30 years with the company - would end up. Turns out he took a trip to Dearborn.
Butler has taken a position in the newly created position of Executive Director of Connected Vehicles and Services at Ford, where he'll be responsible for the Blue Oval's global connectivity strategy. "Not only does Don understand the connected car landscape, but probably just as important, he understands customer expectations," said Raj Nair, who, as Group Vice President of Global Product Development, is Butler's new boss. "Having a leader with technology experience both inside and outside the industry is a rare combination - we're excited to have Don join our team."
As Ford has received its fair share of flak for the sometimes recalcitrant MyFord Touch infotainment system and its Sync voice-controls, it appears that Butler has his work cut out for him.
Top Gear's latest trailer shows off a golden Bugatti Chiron
Thu, Feb 23 2017Top Gear is returning on March 5, and after a lackluster first series with the new hosts, the new group seems determined not to hit a sophomore slump. Chris Evans is gone, and the latest teaser trailer shows the new trio of Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid strapped into some pretty fantastic cars, including the Bugatti Chiron and the Ford GT. All of the typical Top Gear segments appear to be present, though the quick cuts don't give us many details. The trailer shows a copious amount of powerslides from an assortment of cars, and even Chris Harris racing around Daytona. Aside from the Bugatti and Ford, cars from Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, BMW, Aston Martin, and Alfa Romeo are all present. Co-hosts Eddie Jordan and Sabine Schmitz don't appear at all, so it seems their roles may be downplayed to focus on three guys, as was the case pre-reboot. We have some hope for this re-relaunched show and will be keeping an eye out for more details in the lead-up to the series premiere. NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe
Mon, 17 Dec 2012According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"
