For sale is a one owner 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid with a clean Autocheck report. It runs and drives 100%, is very fuel efficient and is being sold with no reserve. The 2.3L four cylinder gas/electric engine purrs along without a miss or fluid loss. No "check engine" lights or hybrid warning lights. The hybrid system is working perfectly. It charges and assists as necessary and the auto stop engages when stopped. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly without hesitation. The brakes, steering and suspension are in good working order. This is a front wheel drive model that is more fuel efficient that the all wheel drive model. The exterior is a glossy silver. There are no major dents or dings. There is, however, a strange rust spot behind the right rear door (see pic). The lights and lenses are bright and clear. No windshield cracks or chips. The tires, on factory alloy wheels, have about 10% tread. The interior is gray. The floor is a clean carpet without wear spots and the seats are easy maintenance vinyl made to look like leather. The interior is in very good condition. All the power options such as cruise control, side mirrors, windows, locks, etc. work as designed. There is a factory sound system with CD. The heat is hot and the AC is cold. Every item on this Escape is functioning perfectly. There are no current mechanical issues and no indication of any impending problems. Road & Track names its 2013 Performance Car of the Year
Thu, 14 Nov 2013Road & Track recently staged its first annual Performance Car of the Year test, pitting 13 new and updated performance cars against each other on track, then graduating the top six to a road test before picking a winner. Additionally, the magazine staff picked the best automobiles of the year in eight categories.
But first, let's cover the PCotY segment. 2014 Ford Fiesta ST priced from $21,400* [w/poll]
Tue, 26 Feb 2013The 2014 model year brings a whole host of changes to Ford's Fiesta B-Segment fighter, the most important of which (to our enthusiast eyes, anyway) is the addition of a potent new ST model. The US-spec hot hatch was first shown at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show last November, and thanks to Ford's build-and-price site, we've now learned that the Fiesta ST will slide in at $21,400 when it goes on sale later this year (*not including $795 for destination).
Under the hood of the ST is a turbocharged 1.6-liter EcoBoost inline-four good for 197 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque, mated solely to a six-speed manual transmission. Ford hasn't released performance data on its pint-sized puncher just yet, but know that these numbers make the Fiesta ST ever-so-slightly more powerful than the larger Volkswagen GTI while returning an estimated 34 miles per gallon on the highway.
Elsewhere in the lineup, the standard Fiesta also gets a smattering of improvements for the 2014 model year, including a new 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine and revised exterior styling. Pricing for the 2014 Fiesta sedan starts at $14,000, with the five-door model adding $600 to that number (again excluding the $795 destination fee).
Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes
Thu, 10 May 2012When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
