Mustang-themed pinball game debuting in Chicago [w/video]
Wed, 05 Feb 2014Believe it or not, but new pinball machines are still being made. Chicago-based Stern Pinball still makes them and has found a niche selling modern machines to individual buyers and arcade distributors. For its latest cabinet, Stern partnered with Ford to create a pinball game that pays homage to the 50th anniversary of the Mustang, including the next generation. The new machine is being unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show on February 6 and goes on sale in March.
Stern is offering the machine in three variants. The pro-level machine is meant for arcades and public spaces and retails for $4,995. All of them come with background and cabinet art by Camilo Pardo, who designed the Ford GT, and Top Gear USA host Tanner Foust is the game's announcer. Depending on where players shoot the ball, they activate events that simulate drag racing, rallying, drifting and racing the Mustang, and hitting targets lets players shift the gears up and down.
An upgraded, premium table with added art will be added later for pinball machine collectors. The third model is a signed, special edition with art of the 1965 Mustang and 2015 Mustang on the machine and chrome and Mustang badges on the speaker grilles. Prices for these editions will be announced later.
Ford EV Chief: 150 kW fast charging could be the norm
Fri, May 1 2015Ford's electrified-vehicle sales aren't exactly at the top of the charts this year, but that hasn't stopped Mike Tinskey, the automaker's global director of electrification and infrastructure, from being rather enthusiastic about advancements in various forms of more environmentally sustainable mobility. Tinskey, in an interview with The Verge, spoke of a world with really fast plug-in vehicle chargers. And of vehicles that can be re-parked using a remote driver. How fun. Tinskey, who touts SAE/combo fast-charging charging specification as the most likely to take the global leadership position, said a 150-kilowatt charger could be on the market "very soon." That'd mean an electric vehicle could be 80-percent recharged in just 20 minutes. Today's quickest units, the Tesla Supercharger, can crank out up to 120 kW. Some companies are touting 100-kW charging times, despite the lack of compatible chargers. Tinskey also spoke about Ford studies of a so-called "Remote Repositioning" feature, which would allow cars to be re-parked at night using a remote driver over a cellular network as spaces empty up, cutting down traffic, needless driving and pollution as a result. We're sure ready for such a thing. Through the first quarter of this year, sales of Ford's hybrids, plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles are down 28 percent from a year earlier to about 15,000 units. Ford's official Euro aftermarket partner Mountune coming to US
Tue, 06 Aug 2013Now that we're getting a steady stream of Ford's European offerings, the aftermarket world is finally starting to catch up as well. UK-based aftermarket tuning company, Mountune has just announced that it will be setting up shop in California to provide high-performance and racing parts for Ford vehicles including the Focus ST and Fiesta ST.
Mountune lays claim to being Ford's "official European tuning partner," and US buyers will soon have access to these parts through Ford dealerships and with a Ford Racing warranty. Speaking of Ford Racing, Mountune also says that it will be working with Ford's in-house team to develop future components for both street and track. There are no specifics as of yet for which products will be offered here, but the company plans to launch a US-specific website later this month with more information.
