Petersen Museum celebrates 50 years of Ford Mustang with special exhibit

If you're a pony-car enthusiast, this is your year. Not only has Ford introduced an all-new Mustang, but it's also the 50th anniversary of the original. Celebrations and commemorations have been scheduled throughout the year, and not the least of them is the latest exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Called "Mustangs Forever: 50 Years of a Legend", the exhibit includes Mustangs from every generation of the iconic pony car, including the 1965 convertible Ronald Reagan drove during his California gubernatorial campaign, a 1971 Mach 1 Cobra Jet, a 1974 Mustang II, 1993 SVT Cobra, 2000 Cobra R and a 2006 Shelby GT-H. Special sections focus on motorsports, aftermarket modifiers and limited-edition models. 2015 Ford Mustang to offer solid-rear axle, sort of

One of the biggest knocks against the last Ford Mustang was its solid-rear axle. Not one to actively court criticism, Ford dutifully swapped out the old-fashioned rear end for something a bit more modern in the redesigned 2015 Mustang, adding an independent rear suspension across the board.
While an IRS Mustang is great news for those that value handling and ride comfort, there's one big group that it's bad news for - drag racers. See, a solid-rear axle is a big deal for drag racers, because not only is it more durable and cheaper, but it's better for the hard launches that can make or break a race.
To satiate this vocal demographic, Ford will sell a body-in-white version of the Stang, complete with a nine-inch rear axle, that will debut at the 2014 Performance Racing Industry show. The news came from gas2.org, which cited an unnamed employee of Ford Racing at this year's PRI show.

Toyota Camry, Honda Civic inventories mounting as US automakers make inroads

Two of the hottest-selling cars in America aren't quite as hot as they used to be. The Toyota Camry and Honda Civic are both seeing dealer supplies increase in the face of renewed competition from the much-improved Detroit Three.
According to a report from The Detroit News, the Camry's dealer inventory is 15 days higher than its seasonal average, while the Civic is 25 days above average. Things aren't expected to get better for Toyota and Honda, as RBC Capital Markets analyst Joseph Spak marked the two Japanese offerings as "at risk for reduced output."
The Detroit Three, meanwhile, are seeing supplies dwindle as demand increases, especially for the Ford Fusion, which has seen an 18-percent increase in 2013 sales, and the Chevrolet Cruze, which was second only to the Camry in June 2013 sales.
