NO RESERVE AUCTION  Someone will own this SHARP looking SUV at the end of this auction. Here for your consideraton is a sharp looking 2009 Ford Edge Limited Suv with a 2011 front end. This vehicle was involved in a minor accident a couple of years back when i bought it from an insurance company, where the driver door and fender were side swiped. There was nothing wrong with the front end, But since this was going to be my wifes car, she wanted the 2011 front end.So i went to the dealer and found out that it could be done, so after about $7000 worth of new parts. The vehicle was taken to a pro body shop where the parts were installed to specks and painted. The airbags have never been deployed, there was no frame damage, or suspention damage. So for the past two years the wife has driven this car trouble free. The only thing i did replace was the battery, about three months ago.Now getting back to the parts that have been installed, On the front end i used the sport bumper, because of the lip that it has on the bottom, looks a lot nicer then the regular bumper. Also i had the side rocker panels and the bottom of the back bumper taken off and painted to match.Makes a big differance in the way it looks.Still looks original, but in a sporty kind of way.Now as to the car itself, This suv is loaded, It has heated leather seats, heated mirrors,AM FM MP3, CD does not work, you can receive or make phone calls, rear back up sensor, dual zone climate control, tire pressure sensor, chrome wheels, fog lights,5 different ambient interior light settings, panoramic sunroof,And the list goes on and on, too many to mention. Anyway you have to remember this car has been driven for two years since it was repaired so it will have normal wear on it. Hood has few paint chips, there is a couple of small scrapes on back bumper. Sides look fine. The interior looks almost new, non smoking vehicle.  Overall this is a sharp looking suv.The ride is nice and smooth, the transmission shifts smooth, the 3.5 engine runs powerful yet smooth. The wife kept the oil changed every 3000 miles religiosly. The car has 44,331 miles on it now, it may have a few more before you pick it up, but not many.So remember this is a NO RESERVE AUCTION high bitter will take this SHARP FORD EDGE home. Make sure you have the funds to pay for it. I will need a $500 deposit with paypal within the first 24 hours, after auction ends. And you will have 7 days after auction ends to pay full payment by wire, or cash in person.Feel free to call with any questians and ask for David 956-414-5165

GM readying aluminum-body fullsize pickups

Wed, 19 Feb 2014

Ford's extensive use of aluminum in its 2015 F-150 is a big deal. A really big deal. Big enough, in fact, that General Motors is reportedly changing its fullsize pickup strategy. According to The Wall Street Journal, The General has locked in partnerships with Alcoa Inc. and Novelis Inc. - companies that will supply aluminum for the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks.
"Ford's introduction of the 2015 F-150 pickup truck was a game changer, and it's the first, not the last, conversion of this type," Novelis spokesperson Charles Belbin told the Journal. The switch to aluminum has allowed Ford to shave roughly 700 pounds off its fullsize truck's curb weight. And while official mileage ratings have not been announced, the weight loss should go a long way for improving efficiency, especially when combined other efficiency-minded improvements including better aerodynamics and new, turbocharged V6 engines.
Of course, aluminum-bodied cars are nothing new. But extensive use of aluminum in a major, best-selling product like the Ford F-150 is expected to kick off widespread use of this weight-saving material as availability rises and cost decreases. The WSJ reports that GM had originally explored the idea of moving to aluminum pickups back in 2008, but abandoned the idea due to cost concerns amid economic woes.

Ford finds flex-fuel engine design plays big role in emissions output

Mon, Jan 6 2014

How bad is ethanol for your engine? There's been a lot of debate on this issue as the US considers upping the biofuel content in the national gasoline supply from 10 percent (E10) to 15 percent (E15). The ethanol industry and some scientists say higher ethanol blends show no "meaningful differences" in new engines while the oil industry says ethanol creates health risks. Researchers working at the Ford Research and Innovation Center decided to take a closer look at how a wide range of gas-ethanol blends - E0, E10, E20, E30, E40, E55 and E80 - affected the emissions coming out of a flex-fuel 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. To see the full report, printed in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, requires payment, but there is an abstract and Green Car Congress has some more details. The gist is that, "with increasing ethanol content in the fuel, the tailpipe emissions of ethanol, acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, methane, and ammonia increased." At least NOx and NMHC emissions decreased. The researchers say that the effects are due to the fuel and "are expected for all FFVs," but that the way that a manufacturer calibrates the engine will affect NOx, THC, and NMOG emissions. It's this last bit that's important, since the researchers found, "Higher ethanol content in gasoline affects several fundamental fuel properties that can impact emissions. ... These changes can have positive or negative effects that can depend on engine design, hardware, and control strategy. In addition to direct emissions impacts, higher ethanol content fuel can also provide more efficient combustion and overall engine operation under part-load conditions and under knock-limited higher-load conditions." So, as we head towards more ethanol in our fuel supply (maybe), manufacturers are going to need to learn how to burn it most efficiently.

Bill Ford says carsharing helps Ford, EVs need to be clean

Mon, Sep 8 2014

To most people, Bill Ford is most famous for being the great-grandson of Henry Ford. But, as the executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, Ford has also been leading the company into greener and greener territory. At the morning plenary session for the 21st World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Detroit today, Ford discussed a wide variety of topics, including connected cars (of course), plug-in vehicle and how Ford's collaboration with Zipcar came about because of he liked what the Zipcar CEO was excited about getting cars off the road. Given that the conference has a big focus on communication between cars this year, it's no surprise that Ford talked about his company's work on that front. He's looking at the long term, though, and says that despite announcements like the one General Motors made yesterday about Super Cruise, when fully autonomous vehicles get here, it won't be headline news since the ground work is being laid by technologies coming to cars in bits and pieces now. In other words, your adaptive cruise control is getting ready for bigger and better things. "My fear is that we electrify the fleet and our impact is not what it could be." – Bill Ford On the zero-emission vehicle front, Ford said that while he's in favor of electric vehicles, "My fear is that we electrify the fleet and our impact is not what it could be." He was discussing the emissions reality of coal-powered electricity, and said that, "We've got to have a national discussion about what we want our grid to look like." As for the work that Ford is doing with Zipcar (which is just one of the many automaker carsharing operations out there today), Ford said that he first approached Zipcar CEO Scott Griffith after hearing Griffith talk at a green conference four or five years ago. Griffith was surprised, Ford said, because he had just given a talk about ways to reduce car ownership. "Did you hear my speech? I talked about taking cars off the road," Ford remembers Griffith saying. "Yeah, and what's going to happen without us," Ford responded. Today, the partnership allows Ford to get cars to people that have traditionally been "hard to reach," like college students on campuses. Ford's vehicles are currently available on 250 colleges campuses. Ford then spoke favorably about other challenges to the traditional car ownership model, like Lyft and Relay Rides. "Rather than being frightened by that, we need embrace it and help makes their companies better," he said.
