We find this handsome guy in  very clean condition from front to rear with limited cosmetic imperfections (EG: dings, dimples, scuffs ect.).We see no corrosion on the doors, fenders, panels or underneath. All lenses, trim and moldings are clean and straight. The original factory finish still waxes to a beautiful luster. It is quite obvious to us that this vehicle has spent much of its time garaged. The windshield is clear and clean showing no cracks or stone bruises. There are a very fresh looking set of all season steel-belted radials riding on the factory rims with all original wheel covers present showing no curb or road rash. The full size spare and rim with all jacking hardware are present and stowed properly. The interior is crisp and clean showing very little wear and absolutely no signs of neglect or abuse. The dash shows no sun fade or degradation, original headliner is clean and tight with no sagging of the material. It is very evident that this vehicle has never been smoked in,eaten in or used to carry pets, so refreshing.

                                  *****************************

Mechanically this van checks out 100%.The well proven 7.5 LV8 fires to life with the click of the key coming to idle at specs. We see no oil leaks or smoke around the block or from the exhaust. On the drive the acceleration is strong, the front end is tight and pleasing and the track is true and straight. The automatic overdrive transmission shifts smoothly thru the gears on time everytime. The brakes stop the vehicle confidently with no pull or shudder. The air conditioner works quietly while producing excellent cooling throughout. We see no issues with the power windows, power door locks, cruise control, original sound system, heat, defrost or safety features. In our opinion this vehicle has been on a strict regiment of preventive maintenance and if continued by the next fortunate owners they can expect many miles and many years of trouble free service.

Auto investor Kirk Kerkorian dead at 98

Wed, Jun 17 2015

Kirk Kerkorian, among the most talked-about investors in the American auto industry in recent memory, died at the age of 98 in Los Angeles on Monday, June 15. The billionaire ran the investment company Tracinda Corp. and was the largest shareholder in MGM Resorts International. Kerkorian attempted to use his power as a well-financed investor to push the auto industry in some fascinating ways. In 2006, he used his nearly 10-percent stake in General Motors to push a merger with the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The deal made it as far as discussions, but eventually fell through. Kerkorian also attempted to purchase Chrysler - twice. According to Automotive News, the first effort came in 1995 with a $22.8-billion offer for the automaker, and soon after it failed the company merged with Daimler. Then in 2007, Kerkorian was back with a bid for $4.5 billion, but things eventually fell to Cerberus. The billionaire finished the trifecta by buying up $1 billion in Ford stock in 2008 to make Kerkorian the single largest investor in the company. However, the situation didn't last long, and by the end of that year, he had unloaded the shares. According to Automotive News, Kerkorian was ranked by Forbes as the world's 41st richest man in 2008 with a net worth of $16 billion. XCAR stages epic drag race between Ford GT40, GT70 and GT

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

XCAR has put together what it believes is a first - a drag race between Ford's legendary, Le Mans-winning GT40, the more recent GT supercar it inspired and the little-known GT70 rally car. The three mid-engined monsters were all built for very different purposes, and not surprisingly, they come to battle with very different powertrains.
The GT40 is powered by a thumping, naturally aspirated V8. This example, which looks like a Mark IV model, is likely powered by a 7.0-liter engine, although it's not entirely clear how much power it's putting down. The GT70, meanwhile, was Ford's response to the Lancia Stratos. Considering that the Lancia is one of the greatest rally cars in history and many of you are probably just hearing of the GT70 for the first time, you can imagine how much success Ford had with it. Only six were produced before a change in regulations doomed this mid-engined rally car.
The Ford GT, meanwhile, doesn't really need an introduction. 550 horsepower is on offer from a 5.4-liter, supercharged V8, which keeps the GT competitive even against more modern supercars. 60 miles per hour arrives in well under four seconds while the top speed sits at 212 mph. Not bad for a car that went out of production in 2006.

Ford, Volvo, Google, Uber and Lyft form self-driving alliance

Tue, Apr 26 2016

Five companies arguably leading the worldwide effort to develop autonomous cars said Tuesday they're forming an organization to lobby the federal government to better prepare America's roads for self-driving technology. The founding members include some of the biggest companies in the automotive, autonomous, and ride-sharing realms – Ford, Google, Lyft, Uber and Volvo. Operating as the "Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets," they aim to work with lawmakers and regulators to clarify a disparate set of rules and regulations at both the state and federal levels that could hinder the deployment of autonomous cars. "The U.S. risks losing its leading position due to the lack of federal guidelines for the testing and certification of autonomous vehicles." – Hakan Samuelsson David Strickland, a former administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration who issued the first set of autonomous-related policies in that role (pictured below), will serve as the group's counsel and spokesperson. "The best path for this innovation is to have one clear set of federal standards, and the Coalition will work with policymakers to find the right solutions that will facilitate the deployment of self-driving vehicles," he said in a written statement. In January, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said his department would accelerate efforts to craft such federal standards. Those efforts include holding two public hearings on standards, the second of which is scheduled to be held Wednesday in Palo Alto, California. Foxx signaled the intent to deliver them by June. Google has been leading the efforts to ensure such standards are national in scope, warning their cars could run afoul of state-specific laws should they cross state borders or if standards varies between the federal efforts and regional ones. The complexity of such efforts was underscored recently, when NHTSA agreed that Google's software could be considered the driver of a vehicle for the purpose of meeting federal motor vehicle standards, an interpretation that would conflict with preliminary California rules that mandate a licensed driver operate a self-driving car that comes equipped with human controls like a steering wheel and brakes. At South By Southwest last month, Jennifer Haroon, Google's self-driving car business leader, said the company couldn't accomplish its goals under those regulations.
