This is a 1991 E-350 Ford Ambulance with the 7.3l International Diesel Engine with an automatic transmission. It has been converted to an adventure vehicle suitable for work, travel and fighting zombies. The siren and the flashers have been removed for liability reasons, but all the bright ambulance flood lights work, minus 1 which needs a new shield and bulb. This is great for work at night or setting up camp in the dark. There is also a custom safari rack which cost over $2000 on the top capable of holding over 800lbs and perfect for tying down bikes, boats, rafts, you name it. It can also be used as a viewing platform or a place to pitch a tent as it has a full mesh floor. Also included are 8 custom railing poles for the observation deck made from upcycled skis.

It also has a vegetable oil fuel system installed (more than $1000 equipment and $1200 labor) with high quality parts from VegPower.com. It has 2 tanks. The rear is regular diesel. The front tank is converted for veggie oil and has a heated fuel pick-up ($200) installed. There is also a heat exchanger ($180) and a Raptor Fuel Pump ($350). There is also a temperture guage, tubing, etc. The system has not been run in some time and needs a new 6 way valve (or 2- 3 way valves) and a cleaning to get working.

Inside the back, the cushions and wall padding have been upholstered with upcycled banners, they are cool, but are a little scratched up. There is a custom bunk that flips open to a double bed with the right mattress and a bin under one side. There are also clips in the ceiling perfect for clipping gear or hanging hammocks. You can sleep one on the bunk, 2 in hammocks and 1 on the floor if you want to pile in. Otherwise it is comfortable for 2 people. The floor has been covered in fake wood vinyl tiles, but needs some repairs. There are also cool stickers on the ceiling and paneling. There are lots of great storage cupboards, a closet, easy to operate ceiling lighting and easy wiring to set up an inverter to power multiple 110 V sockets.

It also has a newer Uhaul rear 2" hitch and a new basic paint job.

The tires are newish and are in great shape with lots of tread life.

We have owned the truck for 6 years and over that time we have replaced;
-engine heads
-master fuel injector
-injectors
-rear transfer case
-brakes front and rear 3,000 miles ago
-tires 4,000 miles ago
-many other things over the years

It runs strong, but needs a little TLC.
- The the brake booster is starting to release pressure and should be replaced.
- The transmission is starting to get loose.
- In real cold temperature it hard starts and could use new glow plugs for easier starting.
- The veggie fuel system needs a new 6 way or 2 3-way valves and a cleaning

Our interview with Jeremy Clarkson and James May, plus SEMA! | Autoblog Podcast #491

Fri, Nov 4 2016

This week, David Gluckman and Mike Austin talk SEMA madness, mis-aligned steering wheels, wireless charging, McLarens (they're sports cars!), and decals. We also have an excerpt from a recent interview with James May and Jeremy Clarkson of The Grand Tour and Top Gear fame. As always, we talk about a variety of cars we've been driving and then respond to some questions from listeners. And as a bonus, there's a trivia question mixed in. The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want questionable buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. Oh, and please send trivia questions! You'll get the honor of stumping your fellow listeners, and we'll thank you too. Pickup prices rising at 2x industry average

Tue, 11 Jun 2013

We've said it before, but bears repeating: Pickup trucks are the financial engines of America's automakers. Good thing, then, that the segment is in rude health - in fact, Automotive News is suggesting that pickup truck sales are arguably healthier than they were pre-recession, even though the segment's volume is still significantly down from where it was before the bottom fell out of the US economy. That's because per-unit profits on full-size trucks are skyrocketing, outpacing the industry's average price increases by more than double since 2005. According to data from Edmunds, the average transaction price of a full-size pickup is now $39,915 - a heady increase over the $31,059 average price in 2005 - a gain of over 8 percent after inflation is factored in.
Just how important are trucks to automakers' bottom lines? Automotive News quotes a Morgan Stanley analyst as saying the Ford F-Series is responsible for 90 percent of the company's 2012 profits, and General Motors isn't far behind, with the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins chipping in about two-thirds of the automaker's earnings.
Automotive News points out that Detroit's automakers now have the money to invest in modernizing their full-size truck offerings, in part because they don't have the same overhead and legacy costs that pushed General Motors and Chrysler into bankruptcy. Certainly, the pickup segment has seen a lot of innovations as of late, including turbocharged V6s, coil-spring rear suspensions and active aero. Those improvements in important areas like fuel economy and ride comfort have given existing pickup buyers new reasons to upgrade. In addition, automakers are piling on the tech and luxury goodies, creating more and more high-content, high-profit models like the Ford F-150 King Ranch, Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn and Chevrolet Silverado High Country (shown).

Ford 3D-printing Mustang out of chocolate and candy for Valentine's Day

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

Is your beloved in love with the new 2015 Ford Mustang? Do they like chocolate (that's a trick question - everyone likes chocolate)? Are they a bit of a futurist? Then this Hallmark holiday, you need to get them this Ford Mustang, 3D-printed in sweet, delicious chocolate.
Ford is teaming with 3D Systems' Sugar Lab in LA to produce the super-accurate pony car confections in both chocolate and sugar candy varieties. The process kicked off with a CAD rendering of the 2015 Mustang, which was then programmed into the 3D printer. After a bit of work from the machine, a four-inch long, two-inch tall Mustang was the result. Why the tieup with 3D Systems, though?
"We wanted to create something fun to show that while 3D printing made these edible Mustangs, manufacturing-level 3D printing was used in the development of Ford's all-new sports car," said Paul Susalla, Ford's supervisor of 3D printing.
