1979 Ford Chateau E350 Ambulance on 2040-cars
South Amboy, New Jersey, United States
I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN 2011 FROM THE TOWNSHIP OF HOPEWELL NJ. IT WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND IN GOOD RUNNING CONDITION WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 29,752 MILES. I INSTALLED 2 NEW BATTERIES, A PIONEER CD PLAYER AND SPEAKERS, AND ACQUIRED 2 SPARE WHEELS AND TIRES. I HAVE USED IT FOR WORK AND PLAY FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS. IT STARTS EASY, RUNS STRONG, AND HAS GONE RIGHT THROUGH NJ INSPECTION EVERY YEAR. IT IS STILL IN VERY GOOD SHAPE, SEE PICS. I DO JOBSITE SURVEYING, MEASURING, AND FIELD ENGINEERING. THIS MADE AN EXCELLENT FIELD OFFICE AND LUNCH ROOM. FOLD UP TABLE IS BIG ENOUGH TO OPEN LARGE CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS. I ALSO BUILD AND FLY LARGE SCALE RADIO CONTROLLED AIRPLANES. WITH PLENTY OF LIGHTING AND 120V OUTLETS IT MAKES A GREAT MOBILE SHOP FOR THE FLYING FIELD. ALL THE LIGHTS AND OUTLETS WORK. FLOODS ON BOTH SIDES AND REAR PROVIDE PLENTY OF LIGHT WHEN USED FOR HUNTING OR CAMPING. A FELLOW EMPLOYEE DONATED A TV AND CONVERTER BOX WHICH WORKED GREAT. THEY ARE INCLUDED. MOST JOBSITES PROVIDED 120V POWER, BUT SOME REQUIRED THE USE OF A GENERATOR. IT IS INCLUDED. THIS IS A GREAT TRUCK IN GOOD CONDITION, SEE PICS. CAB HAS SOME BODY RUST JUST STARTING. THERE IS NO RESERVE AND I WILL NOT RELIST. On May-30-14 at 04:48:58 PDT, seller added the following information: THIS TRUCK WAS LISTED PREVIOUSLY AND HAD BIDS. EBAY REMOVED IT STATING IT WAS LISTED IN THE WRONG CATAGORY. THEY WANT IT LISTED WITH EMERGENCY VEHICLES, WHICH IT NO LONGER IS. I CONTACTED EBAY TO EXPLAIN THAT IT IS IN FACT A FORD E-SERIES VAN WITH AN AMBULANCE BODY. I HAVE RELISTED WHILE THEY FIGURE IT OUT. THEY MAY REMOVE IT AGAIN. MY APPOLOGIES TO THOSE WHO HAD OR HAVE NOW PLACED BIDS. REGARDS, GARY On May-30-14 at 07:20:05 PDT, seller added the following information: I AM ADDING THE FOLLOWING BASED ON "MY MEMORY" OF A CONVERSATION I HAD WITH THE TOWNSHIP OFFICIAL WHO SHOWED ME THE TRUCK. IT STARTED LIFE WITH THE FIRST AID DEPT AS AN AMBULANCE, AT SOME POINT IT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE POLICE DEPT AND RETROFITTED AS A MOBILE COMMAND CENTER, AND FINALLY IT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE UTILITIES DEPT WHO ADDED THE FOLD UP TABLE AND TRAILER HITCH. AT SOME POINT IT WAS RETIRED AND SAT FOR ABOUT A YEAR BEFORE I TOOK POSESSION. |

2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid
Thu, 02 May 2013No Prius Killer
As much as we enthusiasts like to rail on the lowly Toyota Prius as the harbinger of death for all we hold dear, there's no denying the machine's absolute and interminable grip on the hybrid hatchback market in the United States. Toyota has so thoroughly sunk its teeth into the segment that you can clearly hear the automaker's incisors clacking against one another with the conclusion of each financial quarter. And there's little wonder why. Buyers can plop down less than $25,000 and have a runabout that can return up to an estimated 51 miles per gallon in the city, leaving every other entry on the market with precious little gristle to gnaw on.
Enter the 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid. With its claimed 47 mpg combined, the funky little hatch from Europe already falls behind the 48 mpg city offered by the Prius, but that marginal sacrifice in fuel economy could be a small price to pay for buyers who want a credible alternative to the stalwart Toyota. Unfortunately, like the Fusion Hybrid, the C-Max Hybrid had trouble even approaching its Environmental Protection Agency estimates during our time with the car.
Did a US automaker blow the whistle on Hyundai, Kia fuel economy issue?
Mon, 17 Dec 2012In all of the most hotly contested mainstream segments of the motoring universe, the difference of one mile per gallon averaged on a widow sticker can mean the difference between a sale and a walk-off - to say nothing of two or three mpg. So, when Hyundai and Kia were forced to reveal that many of their 40-mpg ratings were actually 38s and 37s, well, it made for big news.
It also, conceivably, made for a competitive disadvantage immediately, when the Korean automakers' products were being shopped versus the guys down the block. And it's that disadvantage that makes a recent story from Automotive News so juicy.
AN is reporting that Margo Oge, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, got a tip in 2010 that Hyundai/Kia were "cheating" to get its impressive fuel economy numbers. The tip, said Oge (who retired from the EPA this past September), came from a senior vice president from a domestic automaker. The source was credible enough for Oge to launch an audit of the Hyundai figures, which ultimately lead to the debacle that we reported on a few months ago, and that the Korean company has been trying to bounce back from ever since.
Project Ugly Horse: Part VII

There are many things I could call this exercise. A party is not one of them.
I've spent three days crammed in the axle well of this 1989 Mustang with nothing to keep me company beyond a trouble light, a DeWalt drill on the very last of its legs and billion razor sharp, red hot slivers of metal with an affinity for my most sensitive of regions. My joints are raw from crawling around on the concrete. I'm half deaf from the shriek of the spot weld cutter and the boom of the cold chisel and hammer.
