1970 Ford Camper Special Van

this is a great rust free daily driver Ford Camper Van E300
and a daily driver, ready to hit the road now or on your next
road trip. A real piece of Americana when families took the
American built van on road trips and the SUV wasnt invented yet.

This also has a nice tow hitch installed outback.

Its a VERY RARE Conversion done by in 1970 best we can tell
for FORD dealers.
Has all the retro stuff from day 1 inside and ready to be restored
and take more road trips.

Maybe you can make it your Urban Assault Vehicle for when the
SHTF.

Working period: pump sink / propane stove / 110v outlet and more
Has water tank of course too.
The extra windows have a cool rugged no BS look to them too.
Camper top of course is fiberglass by Gypsy

There is a bunch of AC stuff still on the motor and I think
at one time, this could of had AC, if not, it looks like it
would be easy to install it.
Also saw a battery isolater under the hood.

These are extremely RARE to see still on the road
not many where built and many where left for dead back
in the 90s sadly enough.

DRIVETRAIN:  the original motor was replaced with a rebuilt
Later model 200 6cyl and has about 35k miles on it.
the original 3 speed was replaced at the same time with a
truck style 4 spd on the floor with granny gear.
Some mild cutting to the floor was done for the shifter.
As is , this vans been all over the SW from Tucson to Yosemite
and back. Runs and drives great.
It could probably use a tune up soon, some of the stuff on
the motor looks old, but runs great.

INTERIOR: The original is dirty some and not been kept up
but its very original down to the formica flooring with gold
flakes. Someone installed some decent captains chairs in its
day which is a nice upgrade. But the interior is pretty cool
for its age. So original still, would be great to restore it with
some of todays upgrades but still keep the old period edge
to it would be awesome. 110V outlet works, so does the pump
up sink and propane stove. Even has a CB from the 70s !!

EXTERIOR: Original color I believe was white where someone
maybe even the factory could of done the blue sides.
The current paint is really bad, nothing pretty at all, but
functional. NO sign of bondo and NO sign of rust anywhere
on this very rare AZ Camper Van All the glass is good too
except one flat pcs on the dr side has a crack.
There are a few dents but nothing horrible.

SUSPENSION: all factory the best I can tell
Could use some cool rims, but as is the suspension is fine
and hop in it and drive anywhere ! Tires still decent too.

This car is 95% rust free Arizona car

Check out ALL the pics below ----->

it may take a full minute for them all to load if you have a
slow connection, so be patient AND looks for the extra schroll
bar on the right side.
Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain and Az very dry climate.
more info AFTER the pics etc. There are 100 large pics.

There you have it, probably The BEST represented Vans on Ebay.

Shows you all the good as well as any bad, hope you appreciate them.
We put a lot of time and effort in marketing our cars and it shows.
People wait months for a car this solid to come up for sale
and even if you have to pay shipping to your area, it still beats
paying a body shop to hopefully fix a rusty car for weeks on end.
Having as much as the original steel on a restored car these days
speaks volumes.

Also, if you buy a car thats been "restored", who knows what sort
of surprises are hidden under new paint or thick undercoating.
People are flipping cars all the time when most of the jobs are
fast, for a quick buck and quality suffers.

Our auctions have NOTHING to hide .
Restore a car like this yourself or locally and you know
exactly what you have in the end.

Email us with ANY questions before you bid please

On Jan-05-14 at 21:40:54 PST, seller added the following information:

I forgot to mention, I dont have the fuel line hooked up to the gas tank

Its probably a good idea to flush the tank out first and clear out all the lines
before hooking it up to the engine .
I did install a new fuel pump too.
I obviously havent driven this around any, but think with a little work
it could be a driver. Engine sounded good when it ran, and transmission
should be fine. Only reason it was parked yrs ago was family came
first and it sat.

Autoblog Podcast #327:

Jaguar design boss admits X-Type was a mistake

Thu, 19 Sep 2013

History has a way of repeating itself, especially in the auto industry. When Jaguar was owned by Ford, the British brand attempted to field a competitor for the BMW 3 Series, called the X-Type. Based on the bones of a Ford Mondeo, it aped the styling of Jaguar's flagship model, the XJ, while borrowing liberally from the Ford parts bin. That was 2001.
Now, in 2013, Jaguar is planning a new 3 Series challenger based on the platform previewed by the C-X17 Concept, while Ford is attempting to take the latest Mondeo upmarket. The moves have both brands recognizing where, why, and how the X-Type failed. "It didn't look mature or powerful or anything. It was just a car," Jaguar's current head of advanced design, Julian Thomson, told PistonHeads. Basing the X-Type on a front-drive car while giving it styling that was meant for a rear-driver lead to proportions that "were plainly wrong," Thomson told PH. Ford's European head of quality, Gunnar Herrmann, added that the X-Type was "a fake Jaguar, because every piece I touch is Ford."
For what it's worth, the X-Type's successor in the segment will sport rear-drive, with plenty of input from Ian Callum. Thomson described the new model, which would challenge the 3 Series as having, "Big wheels right to the ends of the car, low bonnet, short overhangs, very low cabins." Sounds good to us.

Chip Ganassi Racing switches to the Ford EcoBoost-powered Riley Daytona Prototype

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) announced yesterday at Ford's SEMA press conference that it will field a Ford-Riley Daytona Prototype with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 in the 2014 United SportsCar Championship (USCC). CGRFS is the second team to commit to the new Ford-Riley car, behind Michael Shank Racing (which has already used the racecar to break a 26-year-old top-speed record at Daytona International Speedway).
"Over the last 10 seasons we have been able to experience a great deal of success in Grand-Am," Chip Ganassi says, "and now with the dawn of the new United SportsCar Championship we feel that Ford power will be a key ingredient to writing the next chapter of our sports car program."
In the last Grand-Am season, CGRFS raced a BMW-Riley Daytona Prototype. The team has won seven Daytona Prototype championships, all in the past ten years. Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas return as the team's prototype co-drivers, and will attend their maiden race in the Ford-Riley at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January.
