Very Collectible Early Bronco Delivery Model, 2014 Restoration on 2040-cars
Huntington Beach, California, United States
VIN IS: U15NLC92263
THIS UNUSUAL FORD BRONCO DELIVERY MODEL CAME OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE IN FEBRUARY, 1968.
THIS CONFIGURATION IS NOT OFTEN SEEN IN THE EARLY BRONCO WORLD, IT IS A U15 (FULL HARDTOP WAGON) MODEL WHICH, RATHER THAN BEING EQUIPPED WITH THE TYPICAL FRONT BUCKETS AND REAR BENCH SEATS, CAME WITH A DIFFERENT FACTORY SETUP.
IN THIS “UTILITY” "DELIVERY" OR “RANCH WAGON” MODEL, A FRONT BENCH SEAT WAS INSTALLED FROM THE FACTORY WITH A BULKHEAD BEHIND IT, AND IT HAD A FULL LENGTH HARDTOP (NOT A HALF CAB). THIS IS VERY UNCOMMON AND MAKES FOR AN INTERESTING SETUP THAT SURELY WILL MAKE A FUN IMPRESSION AT YOUR LOCAL CAR SHOW OR CAR MEET. VERY RARE COLLECTABLE VEHICLE.
THIS EARLY BRONCO HAS AN UNCUT BODY, AND UNCUT FENDERS.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW THIS COMBINATION? OF THE FEW TRUCKS BUILT IN THIS ORIGINAL CONFIGURATION, HOW MANY REMAIN INTACT TODAY, OR IN 'UNMOLESTED' CONDITION? MOST HAVE LIKELY BEEN TURNED INTO MODIFIED OFF ROADERS, CUT UP, OR OTHERWISE CHANGED FROM THEIR ORIGINAL DESIGN. THIS IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY! PERHAPS YOU CAN PICTURE THE MANY PURPOSES THIS VEHICLE COULD HAVE BEEN USED FOR IN ITS EARLY DAYS...DELIVERING MILK TO YOUR DOOR FOR EXAMPLE?
THIS TRUCK APPEARS AS IT DID IN ITS ORIGINAL STATE, WITH SOME SPORT UPGRADES FOR A LITTLE MORE BRILLIANCE.
THIS WAS PURCHASED FROM AN ESTATE SALE IN NEW MEXICO WHERE THE TRUCK WAS FOR MANY YEARS~ AND THEN THE RESTORATION WORK WAS PERFORMED TO BRING YOU THIS BEAUTIFULLY REFRESHED CLASSIC.
NEW 2 STAGE PAINT IS THE ORIGINAL COLOR, LUNAR GREEN, CODE “U” DONE IN B.A.S.F. URETHANE BASE COAT WITH 5 COATS OF 2:1 CATALYZED URETHANE CLEAR OVER THE TOP.
A NICE COSMETIC RESTORATION WAS DONE IN 2014 AND WAS FINISHED THIS WEEK. THE BODY WAS STRIPPED TO BARE METAL, SANDED SMOOTH, AND THE BODY PANELS WERE CAREFULLY BROUGHT BACK TO THE NICE CONDITION THAT YOU SEE HERE. THE PANELS WERE PRIMED WITH CATALYZED PRIMER SURFACER, BLOCK SANDED BY HAND, THEN PRIMED AND BLOCKED AGAIN. THE INTERIOR FLOORS AND BED WALLS WERE REPAINTED IN LUNAR GREEN. HARDTOP WAS SANDED DOWN, PRIMED COMPLETELY WITH PRIMER SURFACER, THEN SANDED SMOOTH AND REPAINTED IN WHITE, INSIDE AND OUT. FRONT FLOOR SHEETMETAL, EXTERIOR ROCKER PANELS, AND LEFT TAIL LIGHT HOUSING WERE REPLACED WITH CORRECT NEW STAMPED STEEL. BULKHEAD REMOVED FROM TRUCK AND REPAINTED IN LUNAR GREEN, FRONT AND BACK.
DURING THE BODY RESTORATION, PANELS REMOVED AND PAINTED SEPARATELY:
HOOD REPAINTED IN BASECOAT CLEARCOAT; TOP AND BOTTOM. DOORS REMOVED AND INTERIOR SIDES OF SHELLS PAINTED PLUS ALL JAMBS. NEW DOOR HINGES AND NEW LEFT SIDE DOOR HINGE POST. TAILGATE REMOVED AND REPAINTED INSIDE AND OUT. FLOORS WERE PAINTED SEPARATELY. THE BODY SHELL WAS PAINTED LAST. THE NEW PAINT AND BODY REALLY LOOK IMPRESSIVE. ALL PAINT WAS DONE IN A DOWN DRAFT SPRAY BOOTH BY A PREMIERE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BODY SHOP. PAINTER IS A WELL EXPERIENCED VETERAN WITH OVER 29 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. ALL METAL WORK, WELDING, AND REPAIR DONE BY A 30 YEAR BODY MAN.
NEW HARDTOP TO BODY WEATHERSTRIP. NEW WINDSHIELD WITH NEW RUBBER SEAL.
4 FACTORY STEEL WHEELS WERE SENT TO THE SANDBLASTER AND WERE POWDER COATED IN WHITE. NEW TIRES WERE MOUNTED AND BALANCED ON THESE STEEL WHEELS. THE “N” IN THE VIN INDICATES 289 ENGINE FOR FACTORY EQUIPMENT.
I BELIEVE THAT THE ENGINE IS THE CORRECT, NUMBERS MATCHING ONE FROM THE FACTORY; GIVEN THAT THE METAL ENGINE TAG FOUND IN THE FORD MOTOR CO. DESIGNATED LOCATION CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION: 289 E 68 16
M1 233-J
THE "289" ON THIS TAG IDENTIFIES THE ENGINE AS A 289. THE "68" IDENTIFIES IT AS A 1968 ENGINE, CORRECT FOR THIS YEAR. ENGINE OIL PAN # STAMP ALSO IDENTIFIES IT AS A CORRECT FORD BRONCO ENGINE, C6TE-6675-G.
ENGINE DATE CODE ON FRONT OF ENGINE BLOCK IS 7M1, DECEMBER 1, 1967.
JUDGING FROM THIS INFORMATION, I BELIEVE IT IS THE CORRECT NUMBERS MATCHING ENGINE WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY INSTALLED IN THIS BRONCO IN 1968.
TRANSMISSION FACTORY 3 ON THE TREE SUSPENSION IS STOCK HEIGHT
CODE “18” ON DATA PLATE INDICATES 3.50 DIFFERENTIAL GEARING.
DANA 20 TRANSFER CASE WITH T HANDLE.

Galpin Ford GTR1 supercar debuts in Monterey
Fri, 16 Aug 2013Galpin Auto Sports has finally taken the wraps off the car we first previewed back in December, the Galpin Ford GTR1. A few weeks ago, we posted the first hints of just what the GTR1 would be capable of, with Galpin teasing that its 5.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 would produce in excess of 1000 horsepower, with a top speed of 225 miles per hour. Package all that in a coachbuilt body, and you have the recipe for one wicked supercar.
The price for the carbon fiber-bodied car is $1,024,000.
Now, we have all the glorious details. Galpin is targeting a production run of six cars, but if interest is strong enough, will expand its initial quote to 24 vehicles. The price for the carbon fiber-bodied car is $1,024,000. Opting for the aluminum bodywork could lower that, although it's not immediately clear by how much.
Ford reveals new rapid prototyping and low-volume production techniques [w/video]
Mon, 08 Jul 2013It's called "F3T," and that stands for Ford Free-form Fabrication Technology. The process that The Blue Oval has developed means being able to sidestep the weeks-long process of tool-and-die making when engineers want to construct a new part, allowing them to fabricate a three-dimensional part from a two-dimensional sheet of metal in just hours.
While F3T is being developed it is limited to "low-volume prototyping or even low-volume niche vehicles," but the next step is to evaluate it for use in Ford's global manufacturing facilities. You can find out more about it in the video and the press release below.
Bring back the Bronco! Trademarks we hope are actually (someday) future car names
Tue, Mar 17 2015Trademark filings are the tea leaves of the auto industry. Read them carefully – and interpret them correctly – and you might be previewing an automaker's future product plans. Yes, they're routinely filed to maintain the rights to an iconic name. And sometimes they're only for toys and clothing. But not always. Sometimes, the truth is right in front of us. The trademark is required because a company actually wants to use the name on a new car. With that in mind, here's a list of intriguing trademark filings we want to see go from paperwork to production reality. Trademark: Bronco Company: Ford Previous Use: The Bronco was a long-running SUV that lived from 1966-1996. It's one of America's original SUVs and was responsible for the increased popularity of the segment. Still, it's best known as O.J. Simpson's would-be getaway car. We think: The Bronco was an icon. Everyone seems to want a Wrangler-fighter – Ford used to have a good one. Enough time has passed that the O.J. police chase isn't the immediate image conjured by the Bronco anymore. Even if we're doing a wish list in no particular order, the Bronco still finds its way to the top. For now (unfortunately), it's just federal paperwork. Rumors on this one can get especially heated. The official word from a Ford spokesman is: "Companies renew trademark filings to maintain ownership and control of the mark, even if it is not currently used. Ford values the iconic Bronco name and history." Trademarks: Aviator, AV8R Company: Ford Previous Use: The Aviator was one of the shortest-run Lincolns ever, lasting for the 2003-2005 model years. It never found the sales success of the Ford Explorer, with which it shared a platform. We Think: The Aviator name no longer fits with Lincoln's naming nomenclature. Too bad, it's better than any other name Lincoln currently uses, save for its former big brother, the Navigator. Perhaps we're barking up the wrong tree, though. Ford has made several customized, aviation themed-Mustangs in the past, including one called the Mustang AV8R in 2008, which had cues from the US Air Force's F-22 Raptor fighter jet. It sold for $500,000 at auction, and the glass roof – which is reminiscent of a fighter jet cockpit – helped Ford popularize the feature. Trademark: EcoBeast Company: Ford Previous Use: None by major carmakers.
