Here is a great deal on a very cool 1973 Ford Bronco.

I'm selling this Bronco for my friend.  He purchased the truck in 2010 for $28,000.  He immediately got it appraised for insurance reasons and the appraisal came to $26,135.  I have a copy of the appraisal and the $265 invoice that will go with the truck.  The title is clear and he paid $3,134 to get it current and plated.  He had the 351 cu motor rebuilt and spent another $20,000 on upgrades over the last three years.  I have most of the documented receipts for the parts and itemized costs so the new buyer will know exactly what's new.  It was meant to be a weekend cruiser at his Malibu beach house and during the three years that he worked on it he might have put 25 miles on it.  Since then he and his wife had two little boys so the Bronco has to go.  I drove it from his beach house to mine and it ran fine but my kidneys weren't happy.  She's meaty, beaty, big and bouncy!  The approximate total he has into it is $52,000 and that does not include the hundreds of hours he put into it himself.  I just installed a new battery yesterday. The stereo has a locked compartment and there is an amp under the passenger seat and a monster base box behind the rear seat.  Everything works as it should.  I'm not a mechanic nor a body man but here's a couple things I noticed.  The entire exhaust system is new and the tailpipe needs to be attached.  I think it was ordered separately and not installed and yes it goes with the truck. Gas tank is brand new and the glass is good.  The passenger door needs to be adjusted but it does operate as it should.  Again, I'm not an expert on these so the appraisal and the paperwork will tell the story on this Bronco.  He has between $50-60K into it but he is a realist and asked me to just let it go.  Also included is a big box of spare parts most new in the package and some of the original parts that were replaced and a bikini top.  I'm going to start the auction off at $20,000 with no reserve.  If someone wants it for $25,000 or makes me an offer let me know and I'll let it go.  It's going to be parked in a busy location with a for sale sign on it and I'm also going to advertise it locally so I have the right to end the auction early.

Remember that these Broncos are old and require ongoing maintenance.  The resto is never really complete as most of the Bronco cult enthusiasts understand, but I want it to be clear that this is not a brand new truck.  No warranty, and this truck is being sold in "as-is" condition and no guarantee is otherwise implied.

These Canadians somehow forgot how to drive in snow

Tue, Dec 6 2016

Montreal drivers experienced a slow-motion pileup on their streets this weeks thanks to the first snow fall of the season. According to the CBC, slippery conditions caused a small pileup involving cars, buses and even a street clearing vehicle. Onlookers in neighboring office buildings watched as vehicle after vehicle slid down Cote du Beaver Hall and crashed into the scrum of waiting cars. First there was a city bus, then a white Ford F-150 work truck loaded down with ladders, then another city bus came along and sandwiched the poor F-150. A Montreal Police Charger then came down the hill backwards, hit the bus in a slow, sad crash before it was crashed into by an out of control plow truck. Since its posting yesterday, the video of the crash has gone viral. Various other vehicles–a green-topped Scion delivery truck and a couple workaday sedans–were lucky enough to escape the pileup, but still suffered through a white-knuckled slippery descent down the hill. Colin Creado, who works nearby the crash site, told the CBC although it was pretty slippery, he was surprised at all the carnage since the storm was forecast well in advance. "You would have thought ... they would have salted the area or at least cordoned it off, because that road is pretty steep," he told the station. NHTSA opens investigation into Ford Explorer PI brakes

Wed, 27 Aug 2014

This year more than most, it's pleasant when we can string together a few days without word of an automaker or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announcing a bunch of new recalls. It's seemingly been a little quiet on this front lately (barring a spider-related Suzuki issue revealed early today), but now we have word of the government safety agency opening a Preliminary Evaluation into the 2013 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, a probe that could potentially affect an estimated 20,000 vehicles.
The issue being investigated concerns failures of the front brake hose on the vehicle that show "small splits in the hoses near the body side ferrule of the hose assembly," according to the agency, and the issue could result in longer stopping distances. The feds have reports of 13 malfunctions affecting 11 Explorer units. However, it's important to note that all of the incidents come from a single, unnamed metropolitan police fleet that operates 46 of them. According to The Detroit News, the failures generally took place between December and July.
NHTSA is investigating further to find if this is a more widespread issue than just this one fleet. Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker confirmed to us, "We are cooperating with NHTSA on this investigation, as we always do." Scroll down to read the agency's report.

1969 Ford GT40 Mk III found roaming the halls in Geneva

Wed, Mar 4 2015

The halls of the 2015 Geneva Motor Show are filled with all manner of exotic racing machinery, from the likes Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus to McLaren. But there's one peculiar bit of history tucked away that we thought you'd be equally interested to see: a 1969 Ford GT40 Mk III. One of only seven known to be built, this Mk III coupe was intended as a road-going alternative to earlier racing-bred GT40 models, like the original Mk I and 427-cubic-inch, Le Mans-dominating Mk II. Due to its street-legal intentions, the Ford GT40 Mk III boasted revised bodywork that allowed for some luggage and new headlights, along with a redesigned interior with left-hand-drive and a shifter in the normal, center position. The Mk III wasn't very popular when it was new in the 1960s, in part because it looked different from other GT40 models and because it was pretty expensive, but that just means it's an awfully rare gem today. Take a look at the piece of history in our high-res image gallery above.
