Winch needs a new solenoid box ($30 from Rough Country). Has bad front end shimmy at 60-70MPH, most likely alignment/wheel balancing. Needs new ECT sensor - it causes a hard-start condition in very hot weather."

You are bidding on an excellent 1996 Ford Bronco XL.

Don't worry! The interior will be fully cleaned out when you come to purchase it!

This truck has a lift kit (4-6 inches), SuperWinch manual locking hubs, Rough Country 9500lbs electric winch, working air conditioning (A/C WORKS!!!), manual transfer case.

THE GOOD:
- Engine (5.8L 351W V8) runs great. I was told by the previous owner that the engine only has 135,000 miles on it.
- Transmission (E4OD Automatic) shifts PERFECTLY. Pulls great, no slips, shifts smooth.
- Body is in good shape, but has some of the obvious battle scars of off-road travel.
- Air Conditioning works GREAT!
- Tires still have decent tread
- No major leaks! It seeps a little oil like any 17 year old vehicle, but no dripping leaks.
- Power rear window works!
- Little to no rust!
- Hose-down rubber flooring!

THE BAD:
- The truck has a vibration at 60-70MPH due to a wheel balance issue or an alignment problem - simple fix.
- The solenoid box on the winch is bad. It is $25-30 from Rough Country. I can prove winch works, solenoid just has to be tapped to get it to work.
- The ECT sensor is bad. This causes the truck to be hard to start ONLY when it is more than 90 degrees outside and the truck has been driven (warm engine) and then sitting for 45 minutes.
After an hour or so, it starts perfectly fine. Again, simple fix.
- Previous owner replaced the driver's seat with a seat of a different color - sorry, I don't have the original seat.
- Interior trim is missing around the removable top.

"WAIT! Why have you not fixed these things yourself if they are simple fixes?"

I am getting married in less than 3 months and I need the money more than I need this toy. I am cutting my losses in hopes that a lucky bidder can get an excellent truck.

This truck currently has no insurance on it, so I can allow only very short test drives for interested bidders.

180,000 new vehicles are sitting, derailed by lack of transport trains

Wed, 21 May 2014

If you're planning on buying a new car in the next month or so, you might want to pick from what's on the lot, because there could be a long wait for new vehicles from the factory. Locomotives continue to be in short supply in North America, and that's causing major delays for automakers trying to move assembled cars.
According to The Detroit News, there are about 180,000 new vehicles waiting to be transported by rail in North America at the moment. In a normal year, it would be about 69,000. The complications have been industry-wide. Toyota, General Motors, Honda and Ford all reported experiencing some delays, and Chrysler recently had hundreds of minivans sitting on the Detroit waterfront waiting to be shipped out.
The problem is twofold for automakers. First, the fracking boom in the Bakken oil field in the Plains and Canada is monopolizing many locomotives. Second, the long, harsh winter is still causing major delays in freight train travel. The bad weather forced trains to slow down and carry less weight, which caused a backup of goods to transport. The auto companies resorted to moving some vehicles by truck, which was a less efficient but necessary option.

Ford using robot drivers to test durability [w/video]

Sun, 16 Jun 2013

In testing the durability of its upcoming fullsize Transit vans, Ford has begun using autonomous robotic technology to pilot vehicles through the punishing courses of its Michigan Proving Grounds test facility. The autonomous tech allows Ford to run more durability tests in a single day than it could with human drivers, as well as create even more challenging tests that wouldn't be safe to run with a human behind the wheel.
The technology being used was developed by Utah-based Autonomous Solutions, and isn't quite like the totally autonomous vehicles being developed by companies like Google and Audi for use out in the real world. Rather, Ford's autonomous test vehicles follow a pre-programmed course and their position is tracked via GPS and cameras that are being monitored from a central control room. Though the route is predetermined, the robotic control module operates the steering, acceleration and braking to keep the vehicle on course as it drives over broken concrete, cobblestones, metal grates, rough gravel, mud pits and oversize speed bumps.
Scroll down to watch the robotic drivers in action, though be warned that you're headed for disappointment if you expect to see a Centurion behind the wheel (nerd alert!). The setup looks more like a Mythbusters experiment than a scene from Battlestar Galactica.

Ford Fiesta ST orders off to strong start

Fri, 17 May 2013

We at Autoblog love the new little Ford Fiesta ST, and apparently, folks in Europe are pretty impressed with it, as well. According to Ford, the automaker's European arm has already logged 3,000 orders for the new hot hatch since it hit dealerships this March. The US-spec car, which will only be available as a five-door, will go on sale in the United States this summer.
What's perhaps most interesting about the Fiesta ST ordering is that the majority of customers appear to be ordering high-spec cars. According to Ford data, 60 percent of customers have opted for the leather interior with Recaro buckets, and 90 percent have selected the upgraded 17-inch wheels (seen on our test car, above). Spirit Blue has been the most popular color, commanding 27 percent of all orders. As for the technology upgrades, 19 percent of customers have ponied up for the Sony stereo with navigation.
To recap, the Fiesta ST is offered with Ford's 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, putting out 179 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission. We had an absolute blast flinging the hot Fiesta through the French Alps, and we can't wait for this sharp little hatch to make its way over to the States.
