Here is your next classic Bronco.  This truck exudes vintage charm in it's original trim however it has been significantly upgraded to be effortless for daily commutes and/or long trips.

The best features of this truck are:

Sounds right, runs right, tracks right, sits right!
Drives like a modern truck, not a 60's/70's truck.
Fuel injected motor starts right up, pulls strong, runs fantastic.
Cold a/c, comfortable seating, updated radio/cd.
Power steering, auto trans, front disc brakes

I've owned this truck for over ten years, much of the time as my primary vehicle.  It started life as an Arizona truck and came from the factory very well optioned with:
302/auto trans, 4,900 GVW, limited slip rear, power steering, dual fuel tanks, remote driver mirror, passenger mirror, Ranger color/striping/brightwork spears.
Here's a list of some of the upgrades.

Engine/trans/driveline/mechanical:
The engine is a 1989 5.0 from a 31k mile Crown Vic (an old man's car that got rear-ended).  Plus another 20k miles or so since installed in the Bronco.  The timing cover forward is a serpentine belt setup from a 2000 Explorer including the a/c compressor.  The rest of the a/c system is from Vintage Air. The engine and it's original ECM were installed and wired with care, including all necessary relays and circuit protection, by a mechanical engineer.  This truck just starts right up every time with no pedal pumping and no choke to fiddle.  Runs strong and clean.  Has a catalytic converter and a SpinTech muffler. This gives it a nice low rumble without offending the neighbors.  Original C4 works great, factory limited slip rear has been professionally rebuilt; chirps the tires as it should on sharp turns.  Factory p/s gear has been professionally rebuilt.  Truck tracks great, effortless around town or at highway speeds.  Optima battery.  Front brakes are C/K disc and rotor conversion with all rubber lines replaced with stainless steel for superior pedal feel.

Interior:
Tub and door panels were fully spray lined in white, modern seats installed with lumbar and headrest adjustment, custom dash accommodates a/c grills, Alpine speakers, Sony radio/cd garage, and upgraded fuse block.  It has a locking Tuffy console, a factory rear seat (w/o armrests), intermittent wipers, two separate kill switches (very effective, hidden in plain view), rewired dash, remote control for the stereo, dash mounted high beam switch.

Exterior:
I wanted my Bronco to look unmolested.  It has a very minor lift (about an inch, inch and a half) and upsized tires on stock rims with original caps.  Stance is a personal thing, but I think this Bronco sits right.  The tires are BF Goodrich All-terrain T/A with plenty of meat left (30x9.5-15).  All doors/locks/windows work as they should.  Doors close properly with no sag.  Original Ranger colors and striping.  Hood has hydraulic lifts instead of the prop rod.  Wipers have been upgraded to Cherokee blades/refills. Factory dual tank setup replaced with a single 21 gallon tank.  Headlights upgraded to halogen bulbs and reflectors with plastic reflector protectors; all on relays for superior lighting power.  Paintwork is vintage with lots of patina.  Slight variations in sheen and color indicate portions repainted over the years.  Some crazing, some minor surface rust.  Would benefit from a full cosmetic restoration, but in no way needs it.  This truck presents great and is perfect for the collector who will DRIVE it.  Lower quarters (just in the white band) have been professionally replaced with metal.  The only notable rust is on the door bottoms (minor perforation on driver door inner edge) which could either be repaired or stabilized.  Not causing any functional or aesthetic issues at this point.  See close up photos.  I personally love the worn paint where your left arm sits on the door top.  It calls you to ride around town on a sunny Saturday and collect the waves, honks and thumbs-up.  Undercarriage shows surface rust.  Floorboards are all solid, rockers are solid.  No issues.

Recently PA state inspected, good til 3/14.

The following are shortcomings a new owner would want to be aware of:
The high pressure fuel pump mounted on the frame rail makes a whine.  It is a stock Ford unit (F-250, I think).  Could be replaced or upgrade to in-tank.  Or turn up the radio.
Passenger side window rolls up and down but is tight, probably from disuse.
Minor surface rust issues noted above.  Overall, this is a nearly rust-free Arizona-raised truck.
Stereo "garage" door does not stay up on it's own.  A brace or snugger pivots should address.  A wedge in the linkage also works.
Original cardboard headliner is starting to sag a little (about an inch) at the seam.
Two very minor cracks in the otherwise excellent dash pad.  See photo.
Swing-out tire carrier needs a new safety cable.

I am happy to show it, give test drives to you or your surrogate/agent, facilitate with your shipper and/or assist with fly-in/drive-out.  We are 20 minutes from PHL, 90 minutes from Atlantic City Airport.
Please bid only if you intend to purchase; $1,500 non-refundable required within 24 hours of close of auction.

Reasonable reserve will not be revealed in fairness to all.  Thank you for your time and consideration.

Ford using robot drivers to test durability [w/video]

Sun, 16 Jun 2013

In testing the durability of its upcoming fullsize Transit vans, Ford has begun using autonomous robotic technology to pilot vehicles through the punishing courses of its Michigan Proving Grounds test facility. The autonomous tech allows Ford to run more durability tests in a single day than it could with human drivers, as well as create even more challenging tests that wouldn't be safe to run with a human behind the wheel.
The technology being used was developed by Utah-based Autonomous Solutions, and isn't quite like the totally autonomous vehicles being developed by companies like Google and Audi for use out in the real world. Rather, Ford's autonomous test vehicles follow a pre-programmed course and their position is tracked via GPS and cameras that are being monitored from a central control room. Though the route is predetermined, the robotic control module operates the steering, acceleration and braking to keep the vehicle on course as it drives over broken concrete, cobblestones, metal grates, rough gravel, mud pits and oversize speed bumps.
Scroll down to watch the robotic drivers in action, though be warned that you're headed for disappointment if you expect to see a Centurion behind the wheel (nerd alert!). The setup looks more like a Mythbusters experiment than a scene from Battlestar Galactica.

Help make Lego Icon Bronco a reality [UPDATE]

Fri, Feb 13 2015

The Lego Ideas process is a pretty neat concept. The website allows anyone to propose a future kit, and if the project gathers 10,000 supporters within a certain amount of time, then the company investigates building it. The creator even gets a cut of the sales. We saw the operation at work last year with a very cool looking Corvette kit that hasn't hit the next stage quite yet. Now, another creator going by the username Legohero1966 has a fantastic looking replica of the Icon 4X4 Bronco hoping for support. The maker nails the boxy, brawny look of the Icon take on the classic Ford Bronco, and the Lego kit even gets the color pretty close. The miniature SUV also features a visible suspension, a removable top and, according to the description, a reel for the winch is hidden in the bumper. Underneath the body, this model even does a pretty good job of replicating the powertrain. As is expected by these kits, the hood, doors and hatch all open; on this one the spare tire carrier even moves out of the way, too. As of this writing, the Icon Bronco kit only has a little over 400 supporters, and that's a long way from the goal. If you like what you see, give the proposal a closer look on Lego Ideas. UPDATE: The original creator of the Icon Bronco kit, Paul Kim, has advised Autoblog that this Lego Ideas proposal was created without his consent, and he has reported the problem there. You can view more pictures of the Bronco and more of Kim's work, here. 2016 Ford Mustang SVT hides big power under its domed hood

Tue, 17 Jun 2014

With a number of 2015 Ford Mustang versions finally available to configure, the fun of speculating about next year's high-performance 'Stang can now begin. It looks like Ford has something seriously fun planned too. One of our spy photographers just snapped some fresh pics of the 2016 Mustang SVT, which is believed to be hiding the final body shape under all of that heavy camouflage.
Ford clearly doesn't want prying eyes looking at its new pride and joy. It would be hard to put much more obfuscation on a car than this one wears - it even has mesh baffles around the exhausts to conceal how many there are and panels over the wheels to hide their design. However, the Blue Oval can't keep everything a secret. The biggest clue that something special is hidden underneath is the massive hood bulge and vent in front of it. Clearly, whatever is under there is hungry for cool air. The shape of the camo indicates that there may be fender vents on each side, and there are also obscured outlets behind the front wheels likely to pull cool air through the brakes. At the rear, the concealment does its job, making it hard to observe any big changes. The fact that Ford wants it kept such a secret might indicate something, though.
A few photos of the interior show far less cover than the outside. You can easily make out the model's 6,500 rpm redline with a possible 7,000 rpm over-rev function. The big Recaro sport seats also look quite supportive.
