1971 Ford Bronco Bought at the start of the summer from a fresh, frame off restoration in Ford Factory Red with Wimbledon White grill and cage. Frame stripped and painted black. New, Tom's Bronco low-profile Bikini top. Freshly BUILT 302 engine with mild cam, custom aluminum valve covers, plugs, wires, long tube headers and true dual flowmaster exhaust. The engine is estimated to put out 350hp. Custom chrome power brake booster with custom chrome master cylinder, power steering with fresh steering box. 3.5 inch suspension lift with 10 pack leaf springs. New rims with 35 inch Cepek all terrain tires. All new seals, weather stripping, lights, emblems, trim and markers. The factory seats have been recovered. Interior rhino lined. New stereo with USB/Aux input. Front tank was removed, front gas cap just for looks. Purchased from http://www.broncos4sale.com/ (Autoloft / Bryan Rood). While the truck was sold to us as being turnkey at the time, it unfortunately did need several things to put it right. After completing the following work, we are 100% confident in the truck. It runs strong, handles tight and stops straight. Everything works (lights, gauges, etc). Work we did to put it right: - New Draglink - Rebuilt Steering Box - New, properly installed break components all the way around - Re-installed rear lift components to true up alignment - New Battery and Tie Down - New Stereo w/USB / AUX hookup - New, Grant Walnut Steering wheel - 4-Point Roll Bar - New Bikini top Don't take your chances with an unproven, untested Bronco... we know these trucks and we still spent several weeks sorting through drivability issues to make this truck drive the way it should. This Bronco, is now fully sorted and has proven to be strong and reliable through our summer use. If you have any questions, please call Zac at 212.229.2402 This car is being offered by Classic Car Club Manhattan. 1947 Chevy rat rod pickup leaves rubber and smoke in its wake
Thu, 08 May 2014Cool comes in multiple flavors. One one hand, we have the sophisticated attraction of svelte design and the efficient use of power. Of course, on the other hand there is the allure of being the bad boy and going against the grain. That is part of the appeal of rat rods. Ideally, they are built without rules to an owner's specific tastes, and this widened and heavily modified 1947 Chevrolet pickup rod is a perfect example of that spirit.
Coming down the highway with a bent grille, rusted body and pouring smoke, it looks like the pickup from hell. It backs up the looks with some very impressive mechanicals too. Owner Troy Gubser says that the truck packs a Ford Power Stroke diesel with to 42 pounds of boost that runs out of 8-inch exhaust stacks at the back. He claims it managed 505 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque on the dyno. To harness all that power, this hot rod has a ZF five-speed manual gearbox with a ceramic clutch and short-throw shifter. Plus, it has cool little features like a doorbell on the tailgate that operates an air horn.
You might not expect a truck like this to actually be useful, but it has a fifth wheel coupling to haul an RV around drag races and car shows. The air suspension also probably keeps the ride fairly comfy when Gubser wants it to be. Scroll down to check out this beastly rat rod pickup and watch it engage in some diesel drag racing. Warning, there is some NSFW language.
2016 Ford Explorer embarks at the LA Auto Show
Wed, 29 Oct 2014Twenty-five years since its debut in 1990, Ford will celebrate a quarter century of Explorer models next year with the debut of a refreshed 2016 model at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19. The Blue Oval is keeping mum on hard details about the updated SUV for now, but the brand promises, "a new look, added capability and additional driver-assist technology," in its announcement.
Company marketing boss Jim Farley elaborated a little more on what to expect. "The new Explorer is still the SUV America fell in love with - a vehicle built for the perfect family adventure," he said in the release that you're welcome to read down below.
An updated Explorer is a pretty big deal for Ford's bottom line. Worldwide, SUVs and crossovers account for about 23 percent of Ford's sales, and the segment is projected to grow to around 29 percent by 2020. Ford further says that SUVs and CUVs are the world's quickest growing segment with demand up 88 percent since 2008.
Ford Explorer, Expedition next to go aluminum?
Sun, 13 Apr 2014Ford made some serious waves when it unveiled the latest F-150. Instead of making its bodywork out of steel, like just about every other truck on the market, Ford went with aluminum. And you can bet the F-150 won't be the last Ford model to go with the lightweight alloy construction, either.
Our compatriots at Edmunds report that Dearborn is considering replacing two of its most popular SUVs with aluminum versions. One candidate is the Expedition, which would make sense considering that the current model (like the two preceding generations and the fullsize Bronco before it) is based on the F-150's underpinnings. Another is the Explorer, which was traditionally based on the Ranger pickup but went with a car-like unibody chassis in its current iteration. If the Explorer does go the way of aluminum, don't expect it to be a part of its very next update, which is likely due too soon for such major changes.
It would stand to reason that, if the Expedition were to go aluminum, so would the next-generation Lincoln Navigator. Ditto the MKT together with the Explorer. But those aren't likely to be the only models in contention for aluminum construction. Like any other automaker, Ford is under pressure to steadily reduce its carbon emissions and improve its fuel economy figures, prompting it to look at a whole range of measures - including more efficient engines, lower rolling-resistance tires, active aerodynamics and lightweight construction. Expect aluminum to play a big part in that equation moving forward.
