Hybrid Technologies LLC increases Fisker bid to $55 million

Tue, Jan 14 2014

Will more money equal more Karma? In the continuing fight over the assets of extended-range plug-in vehicle maker Fisker Automotive, a Hong Kong-based investor is ready to up the stakes. Hybrid Tech Holdings has announced it will increase its bid for the maker of the Karma to $55 million. A bankruptcy court judge recently ruled that Hybrid Tech couldn't use any more than $25 million of its Fisker debt for an on-credit bid for Fisker. Hybrid Tech bought Fisker's $193 million line of credit from the US Department of Energy for $25 million. "When other shareholders ceased support, Hybrid continued to provide the financing and working capital necessary to maintain momentum," the company said in a statement. "Hybrid is working to achieve a rapid relaunch of Fisker." AutoblogGreen asked Hybrid spokeswoman Megan Grant for more details, but she said, "The statement distributed ... is the only information I am able to provide at this time." You can read the full statement below. At this point, Hybrid Tech's offer would trump Wanxiang Group's bid of $25.8 million (plus assumed debt) that was issued in late December and then boosted to $35.7 million earlier this month. Fisker favors the Hybrid Tech bid because it believes Wanxiang, which acquired most of the assets of lithium-ion battery maker A123 Systems in 2012, helped speed up Fisker's shut-down by stopping battery deliveries. Fisker filed for bankruptcy in late 2012. The auction for the remains will be held in February. Statement by Hybrid LLC Today, Hybrid Tech Holdings, LLC ("Hybrid"), a Delaware limited liability company, announced that it has modified the terms of its bid for Fisker Automotive Holdings, Inc. ("Fisker"), to reflect a purchase price of US$55 million. Hybrid intends to utilize Fisker's existing plant in Delaware to meet consumer demand and address market conditions. "Hybrid's confidence in Fisker's future is strong and unwavering. The Hybrid group has been an investor in Fisker for many years. When other shareholders ceased support, Hybrid continued to provide the financing and working capital necessary to maintain momentum, as well as taking on the US$25 million risk of purchasing the Department of Energy loan. We did so for a simple reason; we believe deeply in Fisker's technology and we stand by the talent in the company who can bring the promise of this technology to life," said Hybrid spokeswoman Megan Grant.

Fisker, Quantum pairing up to relaunch Karma PHEV

Tue, Nov 4 2014

The upcoming relaunched Fisker Karma will look a lot like the old one. Turns out, the brains of the car will share a lot with the old Karma as well. Fisker (and its new owner, Wanxiang) and Quantum Technologies have announced a deal worth over $5 million. Quantum is going to license its plug-in hybrid control software to Fisker in exchange for $2 million this month and another $2 million a year from now. The first payment will be used to get the software into the relaunched Karma and the next payment is for "Fisker Auto Group's planned Atlantic vehicle line." Fisker has the option to pay more by October 27, 2016 to "acquire joint-ownership of the hybrid control software for the Karma, Atlantic and future platforms." There's another part of the deal worth "approximately $1.35 million" for software development services over the coming year. If this all has a somewhat familiar ring to you, you might be thinking about the $10.2 million that Fisker gave Quantum five years ago to develop the PHEV powertrain when it was still called the "Q-Drive plug-in hybrid system." The fact that we're talking about a relaunch now tells us something about how that all turned out. Maybe it'll be better this time, if those 250 bugs get squashed. Quantum Technologies Enters into License Agreement with Fisker Automotive and Technologies Group LLC to provide Plug-In Hybrid Control Software to Support Re-Launch of the Fisker Karma Vehicle - Control Software Agreement to provide Quantum with more than $5.0 million over the coming year - Control software license to cover Fisker Karma and Atlantic series with option for joint-ownership for these and other future platforms LAKE FOREST, Calif., Nov. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. ("Quantum") (NASDAQ: QTWW), a global leader in natural gas storage systems, integration, and vehicle system technologies, today announced it has entered into an agreement with Fisker Automotive and Technologies Group LLC ("Fisker Auto Group") pursuant to which Quantum will license its plug-in hybrid control software to Fisker Auto Group and, in return, will receive an initial payment of $2.0 million on or before November 27, 2014, and a second payment of $2.0 million on or before October 27, 2015.

Fisker Ocean Extreme gets EPA-rated 360 miles on a charge

Fri, Jun 2 2023

Two months ago, Fisker Inc. expected the U.S. EPA to declare that its dual-motor Ocean Extreme SUV possessed an estimated range rating of 350 miles. The verdict is in, with the government agency going even better by certifying the Ocean Extreme on the standard 20-inch wheels as able to go an estimated 360 miles on a charge. This version of the Ocean fits a 113-kWh battery and a dual-motor drivetrain making 550 horsepower. Fisker's press release touting the EPA result noted the Ocean "has the longest range of any new electric SUV under $200,000 sold in the United States today." That clunky specific is because Faraday Future attests that it's FF 91 SUV will go 381 miles on a charge with its 142-kWh battery.  After testing in Europe earlier this year, the Ocean Extreme on 20-inch wheels earned a range rating of 440 miles on the WLTP cycle. When tested on the optional 22-inch wheels, range only dropped to 436 miles. One hopes the same tiny difference will hold here. The automaker says it has received all of the necessary paperwork from the EPA, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to allow it to sell cars in every state and Washington, D.C. Each sale will also earn Fisker four Zero Emission Vehicle credits from CARB. The CEO said, "We plan to send out communications today to our first customers." With deliveries here commencing on schedule, all 5,000 examples of the Ocean One Launch Edition should meet their new owners by the end of September, around the same time the top-trim Ocean Extreme — the serial production version of the Ocean One Launch Edition without all the standard goodies — begins deliveries. Fisker expects to produce between 32,000 and 36,000 units in 2023, compared with its previous target of 42,400 cars. Some of those could be the Force E off-roading version that fits a stouter roof rack, new front and rear bumpers, tow hooks at both ends, and 33-inch tires on 20-inch wheels, plus optional grab handles, tiedowns, and rubber floors. If that happens, Henrik Fisker said the package can be retrofitted to the top two trims, the Ocean Extreme and Ocean Ultra.  Â
