Fisker starts taking reservations for urban EV developed with Foxconn
Mon, Feb 21 2022Fisker has started taking reservations for its second model, an enigmatic electric car known only as Project PEAR for the time being. Developed jointly with Taiwan-based software giant Foxconn, the five-seater will be manufactured in Ohio starting in 2024. PEAR stands for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution, according to the company, and it's presented as a compact model designed for urban environments. Fisker released a sketch to preview the car, though it stressed that it wants to keep full styling-related details under wraps until closer to the official unveiling. Pricing will start at $29,900 before taxes and various government incentives enter the equation. We're told that the PEAR will stand out with "intuitive controls, sporty driving, clever storage, and a focus on industry firsts," but the carmaker stopped short of providing concrete details. Foxconn's involvement should facilitate the task of bringing the PEAR to production; it notably builds the iPhone for Apple in China. The car will be built on a new platform called FP28 internally and designed by both companies. Customers can add their name to the waiting list by sending Fisker a $250 deposit, and the cost of a second reservation drops to $100. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2024, and more details about the Pear should be announced in the coming months. Fisker and Foxconn jointly plan to build about 250,000 units of the model annually, but keep in mind that Fisker has a habit of not sticking to the timeline it sets. Production of the Ocean crossover was scheduled to start in late 2021 (it should enter production in Graz, Austria, a year late with help from contract manufacturer Magna), and the Emotion sedan unveiled at CES in 2018 and due out in 2019 is still nowhere to be seen. Henrik Fisker seeking Indian joint venture
Wed, Jan 28 2015Henrik Fisker may have backed out of the luxury hybrid automaker that bore his name, but don't dismiss him as down for the count just yet. In his latest initiative, the Dutch automotive designer is looking into starting up a joint venture in India. According to the Economic Times, Fisker was recently on the sub-continent visiting factories and holding meetings with Indian automakers that could see some sort of joint venture announced in the next three to four months, with Henrik himself tipped to join the board of his partnering automaker in an advisory capacity. India is home to such automakers as Tata, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra. It's now been a year since the designer parted company with Fisker Automotive, which was bought by Chinese parts supplier Wangxiang for $150 million. Since then, Fisker's penned designs on an ad-hoc basis, including a high-end Mustang for Galpin and a custom motorcycle for Viking, through his new consultancy HF Design & Technology. Before starting Fisker Automotive, Henrik Fisker designed such notable machinery as the Aston Martin DB9, BMW Z8 and the ill-fated but beautiful Artega GT. He then got into the coachbuilding business, rebodying Mercedes SLs and BMW M6s for discerning and wealthy customers. News Source: Economic TimesImage Credit: Nam Y. Henrik Fisker designs a chopper for Lauge Jensen [UPDATE]
Fri, Apr 18 2014UPDATE: An earlier version of this post incorrectly credited Henrik Fisker with designing the Tesla Model S. While Fisker was contracted for design work early in the development of the Model S, Tesla ultimately rejected his design in favor of Franz von Holzhausen's. Mention of the Tesla Model S has been removed from the list of Fisker's designs below. Henrik Fisker has designed some seriously beautiful vehicles over the course of his career thus far. You'd naturally associate his name with the Karma hybrid that shares it, or maybe the reskinned Mercedes SL and BMW 6 Series he crafted as a coachbuilder, but he was also responsible for such beautiful shapes as the BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage, and Artega GT. And now he's turned his attention to a motorcycle. Called the Viking concept, the Fisker-designed chopper is the product of a collaboration with Lauge Jensen, a Danish custom bike shop owned by Lego scion Anders Kirk Johansen. The 660-pound Viking packs an air-cooled 45-degree V-twin engine (built, incidentally in Wisconsin, we wonder by whom) churning out 100 horsepower with a six-speed transmission to propel it to a 130-mile-per-hour top speed and meeting Euro IV emissions regulations. It's packaged into a rather sleek take on the classic hog, the curve of the fuel tank melding into the seat and the rear fender. The Viking is set to be unveiled this week at the Top Marques show in Monaco where Lauge Jensen will watching to see how it's received. Given a positive reception, it could soon join the Great Dane in the company's lineup. Considering that bike already sells for ˆ42,800 (about $60k), and that the Viking would likely command an even bigger premium, that would make for one very expensive chopper. Still, it might be one of the least expensive ways to get your hands on a Henrik Fisker original.
