This is the Fisker EMotion

Sun, Jun 11 2017

Here's our first official glimpse at the Fisker EMotion. It's sleek, for sure, and it definitely has a whiff of past and current electric vehicle design, including Fisker's previous range-extended Karma (now known as the Karma Revero) and the Tesla Model S and upcoming Model 3. Some of the similarities between all EVs are due to their aerodynamic shapes. And unlike most other EVs, though, the EMotion has butterfly doors. Fisker unveiled the EMotion via Twitter, and he says it will have a range of 400 or more miles and can recharge in as little as nine minutes – but that'll definitely depend on what kind of equipment its owner is charging with. It'll also be autonomous, according to Fisker, helped by the big LIDAR sensor built into its chrome front beak. Just what level of autonomous we're talking about remains to be seen. And, if the designer-entrepreneur manages to put this thing into production, we look forward to seeing it on the road. Related Video:

Judge rules Fisker assets will be auctioned in February

Mon, Jan 13 2014

The Fisker Automotive saga will continue until at least next month, now that a bankruptcy court judge has ruled that the automaker's assets will go up for auction in February instead of being acquired flat out by a Hong Kong investor. Wanxiang Group, which owns A123 Systems, is competing with Hybrid Tech Holdings LLC for Fisker. The judge says Hybrid Tech, which holds debt on Fisker, can't use any more than $25 million of that debt as part of its bid for the California-based automaker, according to Bloomberg News. Hybrid Tech is run by Richard Li, son of Li Ka-Shing, Hong Kong's wealthiest man, and the company bought Fisker's loan from the US Department of Energy. Fisker's line of credit from the DOE was originally for $529 million, but 'only' $192 million was drawn down before the government shut that spigot off. Wanxiang Group bid $25.8 million (plus assumed debt) for Fisker in late December, then increased its offer to $35.7 million earlier this month. Wanxiang Group acquired most of the assets of lithium-ion battery maker A123 Systems in 2012, and Fisker has maintained that Wanxiang hastened Fisker's demise by holding off battery deliveries. Fisker shut down production of its extended-range plug-in Karma in 2012 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year.

Taiwan's Foxconn discussing electric vehicle plant in Wisconsin

Fri, Jul 9 2021

TAIPEI — Taiwan's Foxconn said on Friday it was in talks with the U.S. state of Wisconsin about building electric vehicles there, part of the major Apple Inc supplier's push to diversify income streams. Foxconn and electric car manufacturer Fisker Inc said in May that they had finalized a vehicle-assembly deal. They did not identify a location, but Fisker's CEO said Foxconn's Wisconsin site was a possibility. In a statement, Foxconn said it had begun discussions with Wisconsin. "Foxconn has engaged the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to discuss the company's plans for electric vehicle manufacturing. Foxconn is optimistic about our partnership with WEDC and looks forward to ongoing discussions," it added. The company, formally called Hon Hai Precision Industry, gave no further details. In April, Foxconn drastically scaled back a planned $10 billion factory in Wisconsin, confirming its retreat from a project that former U.S. President Donald Trump once called "the eighth wonder of the world" and was supposed to build cutting-edge flat-panel display screens. A month earlier, Foxconn's chairman said it may make EVs at the Wisconsin site, though could decide on Mexico, and would make a decision this year. Over the past year or so Foxconn has announced several deals on the production of EVs with automakers including Fisker, China's Byton and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, and Stellantis NV's Fiat Chrysler unit. Foxconn aims to provide components or services to 10% of the world's EVs by 2025 to 2027, posing a threat to established automakers by allowing technology companies a shortcut to competing in the vehicle market.
